Double major math/computer science Brown, NYU, Georgia Tech, USC, American, Ann Arbor(michigan)

I’m applying this fall and want to get more opinions on were I stand with the schools i’m looking at

I’m an Israel/American dual citizenship, English is not my native tongue as i grew up in Israel, but i lived in america for 3 years.

during my time in america i was part of an accredited self study home school program where i had to teach myself everything.

GPA - 3.7
the reason for my low GPA is that i didnt speak English when moving to the US (my GPA in subjects which dont relay heavily on English is 3.9)

SAT - 1970 - math 710 - reading 630 - writing 630 .
the reason for my low sat score is that i only had time to take the sat once and i didnt have the time to study since i got discharged early due to a medical condition and wasn’t planning to starting college for another 2 years.

EC:

volunteered to serve in the Israeli army for 2 years (as i moved to america before i turned 14 so i was exempt from service).

organized a group of friends to look for and help people in neighborhoods near my house to rebuild or move their homes after hurricane sandy.

was part of a pre military institution for 1 year.

packed and distributed food boxes for underprivileged families for 3 years.

tutor for young underprivileged kids for 1 year.

helped a farm stay in business by working there for free.

waited tables for free in weddings for underprivileged couples.

volunteered to help the office of soldiers welfare pack and distribute food boxes for underprivileged soldiers for the holidays.

also i come from a family of 10 children so i have to help around the house a lot (prob not EC but being 2nd in a family of 10 is like a full time job).

school list

Brown - very very high reach(dream school)
NYU - medium reach
Georgia tech - medium reach
USC - medium reach
American - medium - high match
Ann Arbor - medium reach

am i about right?

I’m also applying to a bunch of other schools but these are the once i actually care about.

Umich is going to be a bit of a reach for you, but I would say it is definitely worth giving a shot. You should apply as early as possible because of the rolling admission process. If you are interested in that double major, you should apply to LSA.

I went through the application process four years ago, but if I recall correctly, they do give you a place where you can explain any circumstances that the admissions officers should consider. For example, you did not speak English coming to the US (but then you may be required to take the TOEFL in that case) or the medical issue.

Since you are a citizen, you are applying to UMich as an OOS student (as hurricane Sandy did not hit Michigan). That would be a big disadvantage for you as OOS admission rate has dropped to 20% last year and will be even lower this year. Your GPA is near the 25th percentile while your SAT is below the 25th percentile. All these would make UMich a rather high reach for you. Your circumstances certainly explained your subpar GPA and test scores, but the school is also looking for students that would succeed in college.
