Double major Physics and CS

Is it possible to do a double major between physics and CS at Univ Chicago? I am thinking of applying ED there, and I want to know if that is possible. I am also interested in doing research, student clubs and all, so how possible is that without overworking yourself?

So Chicago has a fairly extensive core curriculum, which can make it harder in practice to do second majors. But they do not forbid it, and apparently some students do a second major. I think you would want to map out a curriculum plan including both majors and the core to make sure it worked.

As an aside, are you sure you need to do two majors? Chicago has minors, including in both Physics and CS.

And also you can often just take elective classes of interest in a second area. People looking at your transcript may not care what it says on your diploma, just what classes you actually took. If that naturally leads to a minor or second major, cool, but if not, that is often fine too.

Reach out and ask the school - if you can’t find the info on the website. They will know best. Either admissions or an advisor in CS.

The school itself says but this may not impact you.

“About a quarter will choose to use this flexibility to double major, and about half will use it to add a minor.”
