If you declare a second major, do you get to take more credits per semester?

Normally, you get 18 credits, which allows for 4 classes with 2 credits left over for PDP classes or whatever. Then there’s a form which gives you 2 extra credits assuming you are a senior or you have a 3.0 or higher GPA. This would allow you to take 5 classes.

However, due to the amount of credits needed for a double major, I was wondering if you are allowed to take more credits if you have two declared majors. A friend of mine is an Astronomy and Physics major, which is an offered dual-degree program that meshes well together, but since the two majors require lots of time/classes they have to take more credits than normal (I forget how many, but it’s more than the usual, and they don’t have to keep a 3.0 GPA).

I’m interested in doing either a double major within CAS or between colleges via BUCOP, and was wondering if anyone knew whether or not you are allowed to take more credits per semester, and I can’t find this information anywhere on the website. There isnt’ really very much about double majoring.

I take 18 credit semesters with two lab sciences. That’s the most you can take as far as I knew and if you can take more than I’d like to know about it…

if you want to take 5 classes a semester instead of 4, you have to petition it. which is basically just a sheet of paper where you write what the extra class is and then why you need to take it. so in your case it would be because of a double major or BUCOP

i think u have to pay for any extra credits from my understanding. its like how you have to pay for classes taken during one of the summer sessions.

You can take 5 classes but not, I believe, in your first year. You can take up to 20 credits without paying more. There is a limit in the first year and then if your GPA isn’t high enough - meaning they limit you unless you show you can do the college work. The limit goes away for seniors because they want people to graduate.

The first year you’ll take 4 classes of 4 credits each and you can take 1 or 2 credit classes up to a total of 18 credits. A 1 credit class might be dance or orchestra or something. The effect on your gpa of a 1 credit class is tiny, less than .1 (like .07 or so).
