Double Minor with Major in Aerospace Engineering?

I am hoping to attend The University of Michigan next year and I plan on majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Today, I was looking over possible minors that I might take and there were two that I absolutely want because they are of great interest to me. These two minors are: Biological Anthropology and Epistemology and Philosophy of Science.

For an Epistemology and Philosophy of Science minor, only 4 courses are required. So that’s only two years if I do one course per semester to complete, right?

For Biological Anthropology “at least 16 hours” are required for a minor. Would this take up 4 years to complete?

So, would I be able to pull off these two minors while majoring in Aerospace Engineering? Last year I took AP Calculus AB and scored a 4 on the exam. This year I am taking AP Calculus BC and I am focusing on getting a 5. Will this make it any easier?

5 courses are required.

COMMON REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PHILOSOPHY MINORS:

  1. One general introduction to Philosophy (PHIL 181, 182, 196,
    202, 232, 234, or 297)
  2. At least one course at the 400-level
  3. A minimum of 15 credits of Philosophy, at least 9 of which (including
the required 400-level course) must be taken in residence.
  4. No course will count toward the academic minor unless the student
receives a grade of C- or better.

Epistemology and Philosophy of Science
a. One course in symbolic logic: PHIL 296, 303, or 414
b. PHIL 345 or PHIL 383
c. Two other courses from the following: PHIL 320, 322, 383, 420, 422,
423, 425, 443, and 477

Keep in mind, depending on the classes you want to take (since this is something your interested in as opposed to wanting for employability, I assume you’ll find specific classes you want), it may be more than 16 credits. You need 5 classes. If you choose all 4 credit classes (I took a quick look and it looked like half-and-half 3 credits and 4 credits for classes) it’ll be 20 credits.

And it’ll take you how ever long you want to make it take. If you take all the classes as soon as possible I bet you could finish it in your freshman year, though that would be silly.

If you’re okay with taking heavier course loads and maybe a summer semester you definitely could do both of those and Aerospace within 4 years. The anthro minor should be very easy, and the philosophy should be easier than engineering. I don’t think coming in with 8 credits is a huge deal (it’s like half a semester), but its something.

Double minoring with Aero is possible to finish in 4 years if you come in with a lot of AP credits in Science and Math. It seems that you’ll fill your Social Studies and Humanities credits through these minors. so you just need to finish your Core Curriculum. I’m currently majoring in engineering and Double minoring and its a breeze in terms of credit load so its definitely possible.

Excellent, thank you both for the replies. Hopefully I’ll get credit for a 5 on my Calc BC exam along with a 4 on the Calc AB exam that will knock out a few math courses. Plus, I’m taking AP Stats, but I don’t think that helps for an engineering major. I’ve also taken AP Human Geography and AP US History which I both got 4’s on, so maybe that will take care of some other core courses. Got a 3 on AP World History, but I don’t think that’ll help at all.

I think it won’t be that bad since these two minors are something I’m interested in and actually don’t mind studying. This is the only college I’ve seen offering these minors. Now all I have to do is get into UM.
