Douglass Houghton Scholars Program

Hello, everyone. I’m an incoming UMich freshman, and I recently received an application to the Douglass Houghton Scholars Program in the mail. I’m seriously considering applying to the program, but I have a few reservations. I received a decent math score on the ACT, but I worry that I haven’t had a very strong background in mathematics compared to the other students that will be involved with the program. Should I still join the program? Is it worthwhile? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you should be fine, the program seems to be aimed towards people in your situation. If you think about it, a lot of the students who have a very strong background in math will have already taken AP Calculus and placed out of calc I or calc I/II. The program is aimed towards getting people interested in math or science whose demographic is traditionally underrepresented in graduate schools, which basically means people who had a crappy math background in high school.

Yeah i applied for this program and i a have a very decent math score on the SAT as well.
