Down in the Dumps About Science?

Does studying for things in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) actually help? I’ve seen so many talented and gifted people in this field, and I can’t help but feel that it is a talent you inherit. I don’t think its the actual science people inherit (because you’re not born knowing how to balance chemical equations or how many cells our body is made up of), but the way our brain comprehends things and how perceptive and how quickly we catch on to things. I have a competition for Science Olympiad coming up soon, and I can’t help but feel that all my studying will amount to nothing. >.< Although I know humans have limits, are there any improvements I can make in order to be on par to do well during the competition? o I feel as though I was unfortunately not born with the excellent brain power others have at their disposal. >.<
 Getting this out got rid of some of the stress. :)
