downward trend

how much will a downward trend hurt me? 1 B freshman year, 1 B 1 B+ sophomore, 2 B’s junior (maybe 2 and a B+). my classes have gotten significantly harder, but will this be a huge factor?

Sorry- I know you want an answer to your exact question but the information you gave is not enough to even make a guess. Admissions will look at your whole package including strength of classes, profile of your high school, test scores, ec’s, and EVERYTHING else on your application.

Just do the BEST you can and submit a complete application including a great essay. Good luck!

well… YEAH… but im just asking specifically about this.

Holy **** man I totally feel for you, I hate that hollistic answer to. Your “overall” application will be a reflection of all these little things. Your grades do NOT represent a downward trend in the LEAST bit. Your trend accurently follows increasing difficulty. I mean something has to REALLY pop out for admsisions officers like As to Cs. In fact, if you have now begun to take harder classes and this is the most your grades have changed it almost resembles and upward swing.

All other things being equal, this will not be the deal breaker on your admissions. It isn’t JUST the grades and test scores that get you in. Good luck.

I had a ridiculous downward trend and still got admitted. I went from all A’s frosh yr, to a B+/B+ in Alg 2 H and Chem H sophomore 1st sem and B+/B 2nd sem, to a B+/B- in Trig/Precalc H and Bio AP 1st sem and B-/B 2nd sem, to a C/B+ in Calc AB AP and Stats AP senior year.

So I basically deproved every semester haha. But I think the fact that my poor grades were all in math/sci classes (haaaaaaaate math and science, can you tell from my grades? haha) was taken into consideration because I had really strong grades in my humanities (A+'s in Eng 11 H and Lit AP, A’s in AP US & AP Euro) and my major has nothing to do w/ math or science (International Relations - Global Business). Plus I had pretty good standardized test scores.

But basically a downward trend definitely does not automatically disqualify you from getting in. Just make sure that other areas of your application are strong.
