dress code

For anyone that attends umdcp what is the dress code like for student? preppy? casual?..

Dress code? That’s a funny way of putting it.

I suppose you mean, “What is the typical student’s style of dress?”

In that case, very casual, especially when attending class. Some students, especially girls, will dress up to go to class, but you won’t feel out of place in sweat pants or even practically pajamas (well, you should avoid the ones with the crazy matching print, but a lot of girls - even ones in sororities! - will show up to class in Chucks, sweatpants, and a tank top). Typical dress for even the preppiest of girls tended to be sweats, jackets, and Ugg boots in the winter months LOL. Not super fashion-conscious. You see a lot of “Maryland” sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats and pants, too.

For going out at night, the dress code is “As slutty as possible” for females and “slightly more dressy than normal for males but it doesn’t really matter because you’ll get charged to go into a frat party either way, unless you know someone, in which case again it doesn’t matter what you wear”.

Basically, the style of dress turned me off at a lot of schools…UVa and William and Mary specifically. Lots of guys in button-downs and polos at both, and girls in flowy skirts and dresses. I actually felt out of place as a female in jeans! At MD it is really unlikely you’ll feel out of place whether you are a dresses, pants, or sweats kinda person, whether you are pastel or black nail polish, polo or t-shirt guy, etc. Everyone is welcome.

The environment is really chill basically. One of the most chill of any campus I visited :).

We have to wear a special set of robes, kinda like a monk or something :|

umcp is simply lying, she wants you to show up and look like a fool in normal garb.

Whatever’s comfortable and clean (clean is optional haha). Lots of Maryland gear.

You wear whatever’s still clean from the last time you did laundry a month ago.
…and then you wear what’s not still clean.

whatever you’re comfortable with. Some dress up, but I personally don’t even remember the last time I did laundry, I just keep an entire drawer full of socks and underwear so I don’t have to do laundry if I don’t want to! This even applies to college girls like me! haha! I just get lazy and don’t feel like spending the overpriced cash for the machines here! My rule, if it doesn’t smell, then its clean! :)

@Orchdork…um, wow, lol.

Actually, this whole thread made me chuckle. And it reminded me of my favorite moment of moving DS into Easton last fall. We were riding in an elevator with a mom who was talking non-stop to her shocked and embarrassed looking son. Her last comment as the doors parted and spilled us all out on the ground floor, “I know you’re not going to do your laundry, so I guess I’ll just mail you clean underwear every week…”
