Dress people, MOB help???

Kajon–the bridesemaids are wearing whatever they want–no pre-matching. The whole crew is doing three weddings this summer, with D’s the one which was scheduled last (though it’s the middle one.) one of them is very formal and costing them all a fortune, but the other two are more freeform. So far, she’s scheduled to be at bridesmaid at the other two weddings, entailing 2 or 3 night stays, plus at least one shower besides her own, and two bachelorettes (one of them combined for her and the fancy-wedding bride.) Just hearing her schedule is exhausting! So she’s trying to make as little claims on the bridesmaids as possible. I myself can’t wait to see what they all wear!

I really like the Coldwater Creek. Lovely colors! The only thing that makes it seem a bit on the casual side to me is the tie belt. I’d take it to Nordstrom and see whether they can suggest a different belt to wear with it (maybe even gold?). Clearly, choosing a dress is a very personal thing. Though all the posted dresses are pretty, the CC one is my favorite.

I understand your not wanting to go longer than the bride but a lot of the guests might be in maxi’s since they’re very much in style and beachy.

I don’t think it’s fancier than your D’s dress (which is very pretty, btw.)

Show some of the suggestions to your D and see what she thinks.

I strongly feel that she cannot go longer than the bride. It is difficult to find ballet length dresses. How would you feel about flow-y wide-legged pants, perhaps in a floral? If you don’t normally wear dresses, this may be an alternative.

I tend to think that a maxi dress would be too much dress and alittle odd when the bride is in a cocktail length and it sounds like the wedding does not exactly call for a traditional MOB dress.

Zipyourlips, I had the same thought about the belt. If it “feels” too casual a silver, gold or blingy narrow belt might just be the touch needed. It’s a self tie, so would be easy enough to lose that self belt and substitute.

My DD had a coastal wedding and I went with a Maxi, it was perfect as the breeze cools you in the sun, going sleeveless kept me cool, but as soon as the temperature dropped, a simple light sweater and I was fine. But I think GourmetMom may be right!

You guys are great; I knew you’d help. Here’s an annoying thing–when i called up the CWC dress to show you all, a 25% coupon popped up; now when i think about ordering (like someone said, order just in case now while possibly keep looking), but now the coupon is gone, an hour later! I think I’ll try it again tomorrow, see if it pops up again.

Thanks again–lots of great comments and thoughts! :)

Here are a few more. The longer length is very difficult to find, and while these show about knee length, remember that the models are quite tall, so if you are shorter than 5’10" or so, they would be longer on you.

Maybe this will help? Retailmenot . com shows a coupon for 25% off a CWC $100 or more order.

I also like the cap sleeved handkerchief dress. It also has that air feel, but the color is a bit too pale I think for the photos. Now if you can get it in the print and colors of the Coldwater Creek dress…that would be sweet.

My own kid had a formal wedding, so feel free to ignore but…

My kid didn’t want us to wear prints. Nothing against prints except that they clash. I thought that was silly until I saw a few photos of weddings in which multiple people had worn them. They look awful in group photos. So before settling on that CC dress, I’d make sure that the MOG or the bridesmaids or someone else isn’t wearing a print that would clash.

Garland, would you wear something like this?

I think it’s beautiful.

[Tadashi Shoji Tiered Cap-Sleeve Dress - Neiman Marcus](http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/Tadashi-Shoji-Tiered-Cap-Sleeve-Dress/prod124290054_cat9360738__/?icid=&searchType=EndecaDrivenCat&rte=%252Fcategory.service%253FitemId%253Dcat9360738%2526pageSize%253D30%2526No%253D510%2526refinements%253D&eItemId=prod124290054&cmCat=product)

I guess when I saw your D’s dress, a nicer suit came into mind for you, something in a pale or light color depending on your coloring. I think you need to be dressier then the floral prints are. I think the CWC dress would be great for the grooms diner or a brunch reception for gift opening if they are having one. I agree with jonri, prints in wedding photos are hard to pull off.

Something like this:

I just checked out the Dillards website. They have have a separate category for MOB. My favorites for you are:

To be honest, I feel all four are on the very safe side, solid- good for pictures, very age appropriate but these may be things you want for a wedding. I also think the idea of some kind of little jacket is nice to separate you from the bridesmaids. It would also give you a little different look for the reception.

I am getting a Coldwater Creek ad now!!!

I disagree with the advice of a suit. It’s too formal for this kind of wedding, IMO. The dress with a jacket look is fine, though personally I think beading or sequins is too dressy too.

PS Now it’s Sachs on the side and mother of the bride dresses from lightintheboxDOTcom on the top!

This showed up next to that gorgeous DKNY black and turquoise dress: [kate spade new york Blanche Dress | Bloomingdale’s](http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/kate-spade-new-york-blanche-dress?ID=688339&CategoryID=2910&LinkType=PDPZ1#fn%3Dspp%3D1) I love the shape, makes me want to dance. (But don’t think colors work.) I like the CWC dress, but agree it seems too casual.

I think flow-y pants could work, if it’s your style.

Garland, why don’t you order the CWC dress and see? I shop there a lot but my daughters are always pointing out that my mother is also. My first thought looking at your “maybe” dress is the neckline…might be flattering, might look a bit “matronly”. I think it will depend on your own build. Is it too high ? Would something a bit more flow-y with seams or pleats or deails flatter you better? You mentioned “pear shape”. If you are slender on top, other necklines might be more flattering. The fabric is beautiful, I think it has the right mood!

If you get it and love it, you are done. If you get it this week and it’s not right, then return it to the store and keep looking

I think she’s really trying to avoid the MOB look. This is a casual wedding, the original dress is fine. I like the flowy pants idea too. I would run everything by the bride and make sure she is happy with it.

Yep, that’s really all that matters. Actually I wouldn’t have chosen my mother in law’s bubble gum pink, or my mother’s African tie die (which at the time I thought was a bit too casual). But I look at the photos now and I’m not particularly bothered by either. They reflect their respective styles very well!
