I love that dress! Perfect!
These look similar to a pair I got last winter. Agreeing with @BunsenBurner that more companies should make pants in different inseam lengths. So many places have a 30" inseam and that is too short for me.
These are comfortable pants but polished enough to wear out on errands and not look like you just came from the gym. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BY7LZZFD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@surfcity - that’s a great dress!
Love the dress!
I own the same pants and really like them.
Express usually has short, regular, and tall…
Also @surfcity - gorgeous dress! Looks sooo flattering!
It would be depressing to shop at Express exclusively.
Heh …I guess so. Then again, I’ve shopped at Express exclusively for my work clothes for 14 years LOL. Just lately the quality has declined and I’ve switched to White House Black Market for work pants.
My treat I’m saving up for is Express jeans though!
Again, I’m not looking for suggestions. That was a rant of sorts. But thanks anyway.
While most pants can be hemmed, there are still plenty of styles that can’t be without ruining the fit. Those would be nice to have in petite and regular length for those of us shorter than 5’ 10” (typical height of a model).
Most of the time, even petite/short length pants have to be hemmed for me. It’s very frustrating to be built like a Corgi.
I wore my Doen blouse during our recent trip to Hawaii, and teen girls complimented it! One went nuts yelling, “I love your shirt! So cute!”
So. The verdict is in: this is dressing young.
I’m 5’4”, but my legs are disproportionately short compared to my torso. Sigh.
Finding pants that fit right out the gate is next to impossible. Anything with a flare or bootcut can’t be hemmed because where the knee is on them is pretty much at my lower calf. The line is totally wrong.
I have reasonable luck with pants that are supposed to be ankle-length or above ankle, but not quite capris, especially if they’re a straight cut. Jjill had some this summer that fit just right.
I struggle some with petites because I need a longer rise than they’re usually cut.
Petite dresses with a defined waist are a non-starter. The waist is always too short, hitting me above my natural waistline.
Having to hem everything adds up, especially with jeans. With the raw hem jeans trend, I’ve cut a bunch on my own, with a really sharp pair of Cutco scissors.
I’m not technically “petite” (5’6") but I usually like an ankle length or slightly above, so I sometimes order the petite sizes. I’m mostly wearing pants with slides, mules or booties so I don’t like a regular length pant.
I’ve noticed that with the clothing companies I order from, the petite sizes (in pants/jeans) always sell out quickly, so there are either a lot of truly petite women or others like me, who like an ankle length. I do appreciate the companies that give the model’s height in the picture, so I can judge where the length will fall on me. I also look for petite or short length sizes in some of my athletic wear.
It’s interesting (and frustrating!) how we all seem to have to modify standard clothing to fit. Some brands just never work for me (Banana Republic, Loft, Ann Taylor). They just look boxy on me or I’m in between sizes.
Maybe it was this thread but I drove to the mall last night and bought those Express jeans, lol.
Two twenty-somethings in the fitting room area said: “they look cute!” so hopefully they are a win
I HATE shopping for jeans and slacks. I’m 5’3. The cropped trend has worked well for me in getting me to the right length. I haven’t thought of cutting off the bottom and having a rough edge but that’s a great idea!
My favorite jeans right now are KUT from the Kloth. They are nice and soft, have a bit of give, and their petites fit me perfectly regardless of style. I usually can find them at the Rack at a discount.
I am not a jeans or pants person but of course have to wear them sometimes
I find I put LESS emphasis on pants other than that they fit decent and MORE emphasis on what I’m wearing on top and my feet.
That allows me to just need/want a couple pair of pants that can be versatile. At that point as long as they fit and are stylish enough I don’t care if they came from the thrift store or Costco or an upscale store!
I like the Kut from the Kloth jeans, too.
I have the opposite problem as many here. I wore what we used to call “high waters” for years (before cropped pants were a thing) because pants were always too short ( I’m 5’7"). There were some styles available in “tall” length but they were too long. A friend clued me in to Banana Republic and that usually worked for me. I have noticed that in recent years pants seemed to be cut longer, I think the millennials are taller.
I always wondered why pants/jeans for men had different inseam lengths, but clothing manufacturers assumed that women are all the same height.
I like those too and they also tend to run a bit big on me so I can size down and feel good about seeing a smaller size
I am super picky about rinses on my jeans and the feel of the material (nothing too heavy or stiff). Once I find a brand that more or less meets my requirements, I stick with it.
YouTube videos give helpful hints but my best advice is measure twice, cut once. You can always make them shorter but you can’t make them longer!
I have a pair of heavy denim GV jeans… bright light green. (Sigh - a bit hard for finding the right season / coordinating top). I actually got them for under $3 at a Kohl’s clearance sale. Usually I cuff them, but they are an ideal pair to try my first cut hem.
You could be my body double in a movie.
And honestly, even with non-petite clothing, defined waists (whether dresses or tops) hit my waist too high.
FallGirl - I am very much the same. My mom was a frugal shopper when we were growing up and believed in buying school clothes once (at the beginning of the year). When I had a growth spurt in junior high - heard many a mocking comment about my ‘flood pants’
To this day I am super careful about making sure my pants are long enough (junior high casts a long shadow, lol).
I’m 5’ 5" but most regular length are just a bit too short (hence my love for the consistently longish/regular Express!).
