Dressing Young (2024)

I’m 64 and have always worn 2 piece bathing suits. They just look better on me than one piece suits. My stomach has started to show its age in the last few years as far as cellulite and just a touch of gravity, I have a long torso. If I stand up really straight you don’t see it, lol! Also, I won’t put one on if I’ve eaten too much. All these rules.

I find I avoid wearing them as much as possible now, and we have a lake house.

I did find a tankini skirt set that looked really athletic a few years back. I’ll wear that from time to time.

For what it’s worth, one piece suits aren’t just to cover things up - there are lots which are very flattering to a great figure and in fact many 20’s/30’s choose one piece suits to add to their collection!

And they don’t have to look like non-described speedos!

I agree. But like you said, it depends on your body. I have a long torso, and my tummy pooches under my naval. Even when it’s relatively flat for me, the one piece accentuates it, along with the torso.

Surprisingly, the 2 piece, even with more skin showing, seems to hide it. It could be the bikini bottom edge helps push things in a bit.

I find a two piece more comfortable and I wear one when we are sailing or it’s just us home at our pool. For the beach I’ll wear a tankini or one piece. I find a two piece dries a lot quicker, for me it’s more about not loving my skin I’m pretty high risk for sunburn so even with a two, piece I’ll wear a some covering unless I’m in the water. I live in a beach community and I see lots of women in our age range in bikinis. Most are usually fit.
I loved in Europe the women of all sizes comfortable in their bodies. I remember one trip to Croatia where the older women just changed out of their two piece suits on the sand. My friend who is French says when she was a teenager in France she could tell the Americans by the one piece suits.
My sister worked for awhile at a high end lingerie store that also sold expensive swimwear. She got a great discount but the stuff was very over the top with fancy matching coverups. They also sold fancy sandals and beach bags. I sort of thought of it as Florida or cruise wear.

I wear skorts or skirts and tshirts but mainly avoid the sun (have a dermatologist sister-in-law and she drummed it into all of us). I prefer avoiding the sun to wearing sun screen.

We totally did this in St Tropez in 2015. Had one beach towel to hold up but totally changed clothes out in the open on the beach! :hushed:

Well I don’t see folks changing out in the open much in HI. Rarely see speedos either. Lots of nice board shorts on men & women. Lots of rashguards too—extreme sun can contribute to in cancer & wrinkling.

. I am referring to the 2 ladies shirts!

I think it’s great the Costco and Sam’s now sell inexpensive, attractive shirts & rash guards. They used to be much more expensive and mostly at surf shops. I’m sure Amazon now also carries them.

Both are cute. I have several from Costco that are pullover and a few from more expensive brands that zip up. I find the zip up preferable. Sun shirts have been a game changer for me. I’m so happy not to be reapplying sunscreen. All my grandkids wear sun swimsuits.

My little relatives have swimsuits with matching sun shirts that are sold and worn as a set. They accept that having the sun shirt is part of going into the water. The sets are adorable!

I wear mostly tankini suits these days but I do own a one piece (with ruching in the tummy area).

Once in my (much) younger days I water skied in a bikini. Big mistake. I fell and came up missing the top!

I like a one piece until I have to try and remove it, after swimming, to go to the restroom - and then struggle to get it back on again

Ok, I’m going to go a TMI route…we have a pool now and so I’m spending more time in a bathing suit…why is it that it took me 64 years to realize I could safely and cleanly go #1 (pee!) without taking my entire one piece down?! I carefully shift the material to the side and voila! - don’t have to disrobe the whole thing!!! It works for me!

I know people do that (no judgement!) It’s just not for me :upside_down_face:

Anyone eyeing anything on the Nordstrom anniversary sale?
I remember when it was the sale of the year and they had a wide selection of items. The last few years I haven’t seen anything I’m”needing” to have. Our local store closed and I have found I rarely buy anything from them anymore.

I’ve already placed a few orders although I wasn’t as wowed by this year’s selection. I found a Veronica Beard blazer, several pairs of jeans, black heels, DH’s favorite Tommy John underwear, a couple blouses and Spanx yoga pants. There were some very nice double faced wool coats, but living in Florida means I skip much of the truly fall/winter wear so didn’t pay close attention.

I just started looking at some things on the anniversary sale yesterday. I have not found anything yet that I can’t live without. I know that they usually have candles on sale that both my daughters like so I need to look at for those since I can save them for Christmas.

Bombas socks for me and my daughters and Chantelle underwear for me.

I may get another pair of Zelle joggers in a smaller size. I have to lose another 15-ish lbs before I get reconstruction surgery, so spending a lot on clothing doesn’t make a whole lot of sense right now. As it stands, most of my current summer wardrobe is from Costco because I don’t want to spend the $$. (Recon will involve moving fat from my abdomen and it’s anyone’s guess what my sizes will be when it’s complete.)

The selections seem to be even lesser this year. No North Face, for example.

I spent $800ish bucks this morning, on various things, all for me, some necessities and some not. I haven’t spent that much at the sale in years. I have no idea how much will go back, but I felt like they had a better selection this year than other recent years. When my kids were going to private school and wore uniforms, plus I worked a job where I had to dress up some, I spent a lot of money at the sale, but I think some recent years I’ve purchased nothing at all.
