Dressing Young 2026

Of course! And I just finished watching GWTW for at least the 20th time last night. Post corrected.

The college girls I see, including my own, look fit & healthy. It’s the Hollywood celebrities that are looking emaciated as of late.

I don’t remember hating my arms until one day in my late 40’s-early 50’s where I caught my image in a mirror with my body turned a certain way and declared my arms “fat”. I never wear sleeveless and am currently stressing over finding a wedding guest dress that either covers my arms (but doesn’t look like a winter style) or would look good with a light cardigan. 99.9999% of event dresses are strapless or have thin straps.

I’ve lost weight recently and now my arm skin is flabby. I think one can work on their arms and get them fit to a certain extent, but loose skin is loose skin and isn’t going anywhere without surgery. I’ve even been influenced to try those electronic pulse devices to tighten loose skin - nope.

I’ll admit to the fact that in some ways I was more content clothing wise when 20lb heavier. (Healthwise I’m happy to have gotten onto the fitness bandwagon. Thanks to those of you who helped encourage that!) Back then I knew I was short/dumpy… was too busy working and mothering to care much about it, just selected clothes that I liked that fit OK. Now that I’m retired, ha I’m still short just not as dumpy. I have more time (and social media tips) to focus on transitioning to new clothes that don’t make me look like I’m still at the old weight.

Fun story (that may belong in another thread, but we cross-pollinate our CC discussions). When I lost the weight, I was surprised my mother said she had not noticed it. Then I realized, ah… she also never noticed I gained weight. (Dad on the other hand lives 2000 miles away, sees me less. At a funeral when in a nice dress he said, “wow - you look great!” Was feeling pretty good until he continued something like “yea, lots better than in a really long, long time”)

Your post reminds me of someone I follow on Instagram. She (like me) dislikes fitted clothing but impresses making not fitted clothing look nice but not dumpy. She was until recently a size 14 and so that was sort of her focus - clothes that compliment a “larger” body but are not fitted or dumpy. She is about 40 and recently lost a couple of sizes (I think she is taking one of the GLP’s or other pills to lose weight). She is also working out. BUT she continues to dress casual, nice, not fitted, but “young”. I wouldn’t mimic all her outfits - but I think she does a good job of dressing loose, not dumpy!

While I understand I am old enough to be her mother, and she can be a little abrasive, I still find “loose” inspiration from her!
