Dressing Young 2026

The only thing that I’m aware of is IPL. It is not a pleasant procedure but it works to substantially reduce age spots. I had it done on my face to get rid of some annoying blood vessels that kept rupturing. I was amazed that the age spots faded away, too!

Ha! I was thinking more of a bleach cream I could buy at Wal-Mart or order on Amazon.

My mother is teeny tiny, but she has always had, as she calls them “fat arms” and really, in relation to the rest of her, they do look out of proportion - she has shrunk to 4’9” from 4’11” and has a tiny frame - skinny ankles, thin calves/thighs, no rear end, flat chest and and thin wrists. But her upper arms have always been “fat” for lack of a better word. She always said her mother had them too, but my grandmother wasn’t tiny like my mom. Anyway, she has always been very self conscious of them and never wears anything that doesn’t cover them up. And now I have noticed, since menopause, my upper arms are also a little “bigger” and untoned/out of proportion to the my lower arms - I too have small wrists and ankles. But me, OTOH, inherited my paternal Italian grandmother’s genes - I carry most of my weight in my butt and thighs.

I rarely wear anything sleeveless these days and I despise cap sleeves. Not only do they cut off my arms near their widest spot, but they also seem to cut into my armpits, making me then sweat and get pit stains. I hate them! I much prefer short sleeves that land about 2/3 of the way down my upper arm.

My daughter always tells me I have a really nice collar bone LOL. It is fairly prominent/bony. I do think I look better in v-neck tops. For now, my décolletage still looks pretty good despite my younger years of Hawaiian Tropic tanning oil. For the last 15-20 years, I have been diligent not only keeping it lathered in sunscreen but I almost always have something draped over it if I’m sitting on the beach, even when I’m under an umbrella. I’m only 58 tho so I’m sure the crepey skin will rear its head soon. For now, I am trying to ward it off with Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair.

Your arms look great! I’ll trade you no age spots for your arms ; )

Cute dress and you look great.

I think you can freeze off age spots. I had one on my cheek and eyebrow that my dermatologist did during my regular check up. Zaps them with liquid nitrogen.

You could buy one of those wart remover kits and see if a light application would help. This is not medical advice and I’m not saying you should do this  maybe something like this

I just saw my dermatologist last month. She only freezes raised tissue. None of the spots on my hands are raised, just discolored which is a pigment issue. Every time I go, she freezes a few raised items that scab and fall off but leave pink spots (better than brown, though). I suppose I could ask her about IPL, but I bet that co$t$, and I’m just too cheap for professional cosmetic treatments. I do use a retinol hand cream.

I’ve thought about laser for my hands but my arms are just as bad.
My friend who had spots on top of hands but otherwise decent looking skin has done laser treatments on her hands. It’s come out pretty nicely. She did it before her kids wedding.

The package of 3 treatments was $1,000 at my local derm. IMO, that was money well spent.

That’s five times more than my wedding gown! I balk at the $90 my derm charges for freezing. $1,000 would have to make me look 18 again — from head to toe.

So, makeup it is, I guess.

Did anybody watch the TV series “Younger”? (It had 7 seasons, so I was surprised to not have heard much about it. Watched it all as one of my exercise shows, lol - waiting on the next Grey’s Anatomy season.) In it, a 40-ish year old mother/divorcee badly needs a job and pretends to be much younger. I recall a scene where somebody called her out on the lie because her hands gave her away.

My neck would give me away but I dislike the feeling of something around my neck so it is what it is. I also prefer sleeveless to sleeves in hot weather so if someone doesn’t like my bat wings, don’t look. The two best things I did for my looks (and it was really for my health) was lose close to 50 pounds about 14 years ago, and to have my eyelids lifted so I could see. (I could get rid of loose skin and bulges by gaining back weight; round myself out so to speak.) If I ever do start worrying about my body, I just drop by the local beach to see everyone who really doesn’t care but perhaps should a little.

I watched it a few years ago…if she’s having hand issues at 40 just WAIT till she is our age!

Oh yeah, it was pricey, but well worth it in my situation since I don’t wear makeup, and that bloody spot on my cheek was drawing unwanted attention. The tech asked me if I wanted to treat my hands, and I politely declined.

Sadly, I don’t believe there are any good cheap products that can wipe out age spots as well as stimulate production of collagen to make the skin look firmer.

Yet we can send a man to the moon and clean our toilets without scrubbing.

I’ve gotten RX hydroquinone from my derm to fade a few sunspots on my cheeks. It works slowly but is effective over time. Maybe that would help, @ChoatieMom?

If only our bodies weren’t so complex… we would have cured all diseases as a side project, too!

I’ll look into that, @Jolynne_Smyth. Thanks.

Losing 20 pounds about 8 years ago probably causes me to have more facial wrinkles. (LOL, I mostly only notice it when taking selfies. At the bathroom mirror, my glasses are off.) So be it - I’m doing what I can to eat right, exercise and stay healthy.

On the clothing topic, wow I had to revert back to cool weather clothes this week. After Saturday at 81 degrees, today (as a NY native) I was humming NY State of Mind. Since we reallllly need the moisture, tis ok by me. Decided it was time to wear low boots with my jeans again today.

That was her sulky sister Suellen. Then her younger more optimistic sister Careen said, “I guess things like hands and ladies don’t matter so much any more.”
