It was fun! My dh works for a family-owned business, and today was their annual shareholders’ meeting. There are four officers (my husband is one) who aren’t family members, and they and their spouses are invited to the shareholders’ dinner. They rent out this small plates place in its entirety, and the food is fantastic! The eight of us non-family/non-shareholder folk mostly hang together.
While shopping at the mall today, I was approached by a teenager asking where I got my jeans! I guess I waa truly dressing young! ![]()
I was surprised last week when a young waitress admired my nails. (Ha, maybe she’s learned it’s a good conversation starter for better tips?)
I had for the first time tried blue nail color. (It was husband’s suggestion - he’s nice about encouraging me to spend on manicures/pedicures even though I’m rather frugal. Suggested blue when I was dithering on my usual choices.) I deferred to the manicurist on precise color - it’s a bit more greyish than expected, but it works.
I really like Emily Henderson - both as an interior designer and the way she dresses. She reviews a lot of clothing - even bathing suits!
She did a whole blog post on Quince - and reviewed MANY of their products from tops to pants to bags etc
Thought someone might find it a fun read - it’s extensive!
Thanks - great, comprehensive reviews!
I like a large square scarf. I watched a ton of youtube tutorials to figure out some different ways to tie them.
I love a good scarf! I have two bins full in all kinds of weights, fabrics and colors.
I also love that I can hide my arms on a sleeveless dress in the summer when we are going out for dinner! Usually the A/C is blasting so I like having another layer so that kills two birds with one stone ; )
I think I look pretty good at 54, except for my neck, which seems to show my age…needless to say, I’ve come to love me a good scarf, too.
I’ll ask a question - and I’m genuine in my asking and also just curious.
I’ll start by saying my arms/legs are not Michelle Obama arms
by ANY means, but I do exercise them.
And never have I ever been someone who is a single digit clothing size except on RARE occasion that an 8 or a small was made oversized.
I am ok with being a 10, 12 or (not currently but have been) a 14.
If you’re willing to share, what is it about your arms that makes you want to hide them? Creppy skin? Not muscular? Farmer’s Tan???
Woman to woman I’m just curious.
I have loose flabby skin and lumpy cellulite. I lift and such but it doesn’t seem to help. I’m 55. I can’t imagine how bad it’s going to be in 10 years.
Thank you for responding. Maybe if we never had great arms we don’t have as much expectations? (Your arms look fit to me and I’m being honest!)
I’ve always been self-conscious about my arms, but it’s definitely getting worse now!
I’m not necessarily self-conscious about my arms (which are a little flabby but at the same time also kindof scrawny). In fact, due to easily overheating, I’m sometimes the only one of my pickeball pals, mostly retirees, who does wear a sleeveless top… even when some ladies are in long sleeves. But with my pear shape, often an outfit or dress looks better with at least a cap sleeve. Still I did last summer add a few sleeveless dresses to my wardrobe for church, vacation etc - still struggling for the right overshirts (or sweaters) for use when indoors with AC.
Until the last year I’ve always worn sleeveless. I have lipedema and sometimes I have more fluid in my arm than other times. I wear a compression sleeve sometimes on this arm.
I also have really think skin from my years of sun exposure and I get some pretty bad bruises on my lower arms. I have started wearing a blouse over tank or t shirt just to protect my skin. If I lightly bump into something I can bruise or bleed.
I strength train multiple times a week and I can’t get much definition in my arms. I do wear sleeveless to the gym.
I have always had really muscular arms. (Yes, former athlete.) In fact, when I was a teen, I was a bit embarassed of them. Oh, the folly of youth.
Now, if I hold my arm out at a right angle away from me, I still have a nice bicep but what the heck is that hanging from my arm? If it were at my neck, I’d call it a wattle! It’s just blech!
And the skin is crepe-y, creepy!
In aerospace terminology, I have flaps and ailerons.
I wear short sleeves but I find that some short sleeve styles make my arms look worse than they actually are.
My arms are fine, and I wear sleeveless tops without worrying. BUT, my thighs are my problem. Except for board shorts I wear over my swimsuit bottoms, I try to wear shorts 7 inches or longer. My ankles are thin (I can still wrap my thumb and middle finger around them) and my calves are fine. BUT my upper thighs, not so much. I swear if you separated my legs at my knees you wouldn’t pick them as belonging to the same person.
Maybe we are being too hard on ourselves. Have you observed the average college girl these days?
Thank you to those who shared. I think you all are beautiful and your arms no matter how they look - or look to you - do you well and allow you to cook and hug and wave hi to friends and all good things!
I grew up in a home where my mom who was from Morocco embraced her looks as they were. And she was so so pretty. She never wore makeup past lipstick and so I was never taught how or TO wear make up. I have never wore much - at all. She embraced her body and even in her 80s would not shy from a bathing suit (she swam all her 88 years year around) and yep, she’d even sport a tube top while working in her back yard! It was who she was and I guess, who I learned to be with some adjustments -
No tube tops in my wardrobe. ![]()
ANYWAY, I have not been very “girly girl” in some ways others are. I listen with interest to those that do wear make up or those that do second think clothing choices. I’m satisfied with my ways - low maintenance
- and I do enjoy clothes and do care how I look clothes wise - but just with a different focus or frame of mind than others do.
In summary, I appreciate the sharing and explaining. As long as your choices make you feel good or better, they are good choices for you!
