I bought this style in the blue stripe, we will see how they work out, they don’t have the curved hem, that was only in solid colors. I got the last small
For my fellow beach/pool/water lovers whose feet may meet water often, I just received two new pairs of REEF sandals and I love them!
I have the red (hibiscus) and ADORE!
And these - I could wear them at the beach and then wear them to a restaurant with a casual dress - completely waterproof but look nice! Mine are black. Lots of influencers often have REEF codes for 15-20% off.
Don’t know how long it lasts but here is one link/code for 20% off
On the cropped pants topic, I have the pictured pants… non-petite, so on me more of an awkward “clam digger” length. The do fit again (yay). Although my husband never liked them, I’ve hung on to them because they seem a nice compromise when I can’t decide pant vs shorts/skirt. And they travel well, non-wrinkly.
Today I tried them with non-flat sandals, and still not loving it. Time to give em away?
Personally, I like this style with sneakers as a casual kick-around option. The “going to the farmers market” or "gardening " look. Not trendy, but comfy.
If, otoh, you feel like you don’t have the right thing in your closet to style them the way you like, it’s fine to say good-bye. There’s a bit of emotional weight that comes with things in our closet that are not quite right.
Editted to add that they look best with the longer shirt.
Another vote for the look in the middle picture. I recall reading somewhere that one designer had a rule of 3: each outfit should have 3 pieces to look well put together and interesting (such as adding a jacket or a scarf to a top/bottom combo). The middle one is true to the rule!
Here are my thoughts (which might be more honest than what you are looking for!). From these photos it appears that you have a long torso (as do I!). They aren’t hitting you at the smallest part of your waist, which is higher up (I mean, just look - you have a darling, curvy little figure!) So, the fact that they are lower on your waist and appear to be somewhat tapered are throwing off the proportions/line. A higher waisted, straight or wider leg would be more flattering. They aren’t terrible, but they aren’t doing you any favors. The middle picture (with the longer shirt) is helping to correct the proportions - that’s why everyone likes that look best! I also think the first pic with the shorter untucked top helps a bit with the proportions. That striped t untucked with a longer solid color top over it would work well if you want to keep them. I am not a fan of tucking in with these particular pants for you.
My belief is that 9 times out of 10, the reason something doesn’t work is a proportion issue. The cut of the article of clothing just isn’t right for the particular person. It’s not YOU, it’s that particular cut ON you.
I don’t care for look 3, the tucking in doesn’t work in my opinion. I prefer the first two if you want to keep them. Like someone else said I would try with a sneaker.
Thanks Hoggirl for taking some time to share your detailed thoughts.. it was very sweet and helpful. Same to the other responders. I decided to take/post these photos this morn because I had some extra time, and I wanted distraction from all the glum and relentless news these days. I did pick the middle 3-piece out fit to my audiologist appointment (a topic for another thread). In addition to reasons mentioned, the layering is nice for AC outside and then hot car afterward.
For now I will keep these pants. Ha, it’s not like my other clothing options are fantastic either. I’ve only paid much attention to fashion/fit in recent years since retired and bored. I will give them a try with sneakers - I have a white pair that might look nice.
I looked at the pant brand, it they are Apt 9 (Kohls, though I may have gotten at thrift shop). Surprised since quite nice fabric. That means no hurry whether to even ask if they would take them at our nice local consignment shop (while it is the right season) since they steer toward better brands (there’s even a whole rack of White House / Black Market). Most of my clothes are a pass for them, but I am sometimes surprised what they do want. I don’t do it for the meager profit… I just like supporting this particular business and and their mission for clothing re-use. I drop off 5/max things weekly for them to look at without appointment. And I use it as an excuse to shop. They have tons of clothes, shoes etc. Also a lovely. household/decorating section. Afterward I either send them off to their selected charity or do the dropoff myself. LOL - this rambling post could have gone in the Bag a Week thread.
The real answer is, if YOU don’t like them and won’t choose them, out they go!
But I agree that I like pic 1 and 2. But not 3 and the tucked in look. To me they are on the VERGE of being too short but are fine. And I agree with a not bulky sneaker, white or a color (not tan like the pants) - that’s how I’d wear them. Or a very casual sandal.
Nice choice! It looks lovely on you. Hope you enjoyed the dinner.
Joseph Ribkoff is one of the brands carried at a local boutique where I sometimes shop (owner is wife of a former coworker). The owner is quite picky about the brands she gets - all excellent quality, ethically sourced etc.
