I have a cousin who wears black pants with dressy blouses to most functions. She always looks good.
I love this combo but am always worried I’ll be mistaken for wait-staff!
Yes, S avoids black pants and white shirts for this reason, seriously! He’s trim and Asian and looks young and I think has too often been mistaken for “help.”
My older brother was very fashion conscious. He had a ton of different tuxedos, suits and many dozen aloha shirts. He was definitely interested in “ dressing for success,” and attended many events where he wore his tuxes & suits.
Ha, maybe add some stunning shoes and jewelry.
Or get some pants with some embellishments! Like these

For the colorful wedding- I like Colorado_mom’s idea of colorful accessories if you like a black or navy base. Sometimes weddings are chilly so maybe a dressy, gauzy pashima-type shawl or scarf? Or fun clutch?
I think it will be chilly at night (the wedding invite actually suggests that guests bring a wrap or coat for the evening). The wedding is entirely outdoors.
I like the idea of adding colorful accessories to darker colors, although I will stay away from black because to me that doesn’t scream outdoor summer wedding on the California coast. If it were an indoor wedding, black might be on the table. Of course I am far from a wedding fashion expert ![]()
Here are some options currently in carts:
Like this one because it is lightweight and a stretchy mesh material. I would likely do a lightweight navy, pink or off-white cardigan or wrap
I like the color and simplicity of this one, but I am blonde and pale do I would need some kind of a tan

This one’s kind of a dark horse - outside my usual comfort zone.

And this one - but bridesmaids are in various shades of green & yellow so I’d probably stay away from green (is this a thing - not wearing the bridesmaid’s colors? There are so many shades of green. My daughter is in the wedding and was told “grass” green). I love the silhouette of this one.

I also adore this dress but wouldn’t pay this much for a wedding guest dress.

I also have about 100 dresses in my Nuuly, so I may end up going that route.
I really like the taupe staud one!
I like the first one (navy pattern). That would be my choice as I am a pale blonde. I love the Staud dress, but I know that the color would wash me out.
My vote also goes to the first dress (Adrianna Papell).
I like the printed dress as well—it’s lovely! I would definitely need a wrap for outdoor evening.
#1, then #3. Both very pretty. All are pretty actually.
Bought my first Quince item, showed up on my FB page. The video shows what it really looks like. Very cute and it hides armpit fat, which I have and HATE with a passion. It’s snug, so larger busted gals won’t like it. I’m an 8 and the medium just fit. So a M won’t fit a 10. Great sale price! Bought the white one.
I love #1!
Ok you all are convincing me. I’m going to order the first one to try. They are having a discount deal on all the “blue” dresses. Thanks for the feedback!
I’ve liked everything I’ve bought from Quince for the price point!
I recently saw a Quince cashmere tee at a resale store and was impressed. Time to try them out. ![]()
Love the top @conmama posted!
That looks nice! I recently purchased a sleeveless top in similar print and really like it as something different from my other summer tops.
I got this dress on sale at Marshall’s for $39.99 and wore it to a party last weekend and received a ton of compliments.
