Is the dress too bulky to put in a bag and take to a store to try and do a little color matching??? If it’s me I feel like a navy “topper” will make the whole look too heavy/dark for July. Unless it’s more sheer or crochet-like. I’m wondering if you can match the pink or even the rusty orange/deep rose like Marilyn mentioned. Such a pretty dress I’d want to accentuate it not hide it.
Depending on what looks good on you, you could go with gold

I have a gold wrap that I might try if it were me
I actually think this is the color:
They also have it in a long sleeve but it’s not cropped and looks a little too bulky for a dress topper. Do we think the short sleeve would work?
I agree about the navy!
That could work too! Decisions, decisions…
I like that cardigan and may get for the welcome party dress but I think it’s too much on the yellow side of ivory for the flowers on the dress. I have light yellow flowers on the welcome party dress, which I think it would work well with.
You guys are great! Here’s the welcome party dress. Hard to match the purple but there are a couple of shades of yellow in there. This is where I think the Madewell sweater that FallGirl linked could work.

I saw this cardigan for the purple dress. I think the shade and the cropped length would work but I’m unsure about the pattern of the knit blending with the flowers on the dress??

I like the idea of dusty rose.

Reformation one: in color called “lotus” (not the color in the preview above)
I’m not sure this works, but could something similar work?
ETA this one is beige and gold

I need to chime in on putting a cardigan on with that gorgeous Strapless dress. I think it’s way to casual and doesn’t go. A better choice would be a bolero. I’m attaching an AI photo of one, I think just open front without a button would be better. The ruched waist of the dress needs attention and to be seen. It will make your waist look small and a short bolero will balance it all out. May I ask why you are considering a strapless dress if you are just going to cover your arms?
I agree that wearing a sweater seems too “heavy” for a lovely strapless dress and a bolero or shrug or featherweight shawl or scarf would seem more suitable imho.
Yes, that’s why I am looking for a lightweight cropped cardigan. A bolero would be great - if I could find one in the color of your picture ![]()
It’s difficult to find an occasion dress with sleeves that doesn’t look wintery. Flutter and cap sleeves also aren’t flattering on larger arms. I’ve recently lost 40lbs and my arms have flabby, hanging skin that I don’t love. Additionally, where the wedding takes place gets cool at night. The wedding invitation specifically recommends bringing sweaters or jackets, as it is completely outdoors and will go on until 10-11 pm.
I”ve seen that and have it as an option. I believe they also have a light pink color that might work.
Thank you for the suggestions! I love the Reformation one!
I’m cold at 70°! I’d be in big trouble as it got cooler through the evening. No outdoor heaters of any kind??
I have no suggestions, but I hope you find something that works (and keeps you warm).
That could work, Mabelsmon - thank you!
agree - a full on cardigan sweater would be too bulky and heavy. Wraps are definitely an option but I’m wondering if it would annoy me when I am moving around, eating and dancing, since they don’t stay in place on their own.
I don’t know about heaters but the fact that the invite recommends bringing a sweater or a jacket for the when the sun goes down…
We also have to take a shuttle to another location on the resort property where the ceremony and reception are taking place, so there’s not an option to run back to our rooms to get something.
I always struggle with what to wear to events where I will likely need something warmer as the evening goes on. You search and search for the right dress only to be hit with the next question of what looks good with the dress. I live and go to events in just the climate your wedding will be. I often end up taking a pashmina but it’s a pain to keep it on and also hold an appetizer and a drink.
I think a cropped lightweight cardigan is a good option. I would want something that’s fitted to not take away from the dress.
PS I love both dresses!
The cardigan from Madewell is very light, not at all bulky. It’s also a piece that can be worn again.
We were dealing with just having a little something to keep the chill off (for S’s wedding) so D and I each got chiffon-type wraps. Hers had kimono sleeves and mine had butterflies in flight and matched my dress.
If it were cooler like you’re describing, would have had to choose something more like a tissue weight cashmere scarf or wrap. Would hate to cover up the lovely strapless top too early!
