Dressing Young 2026

My apologies - in earlier post transposed names of the uber-fashionistas on this thread! You will look fab in all dresses, @Hoggirl!

I like the green malachite dress but it is awfully pricey. I haven’t been to a church wedding in a long time but I think any of the dresses suggested would be fine for church with a wrap.

I don’t really know what to wear to weddings these days–some invitations are so specific (the ones where everyone is supposed to wear a specific color) and others are vague like “festive attire.” I am going to a wedding in October and the wedding website says “formal” but the wedding starts at noon so it doesn’t seem like long gowns would be called for? Also the bride told me earlier that we should wear chunky heels or flat shoes because we would be walking on grass. I have tried on a few dresses but so far I don’t like any of them.

Here are some really pretty dresses.

Here, here! That is a complete mismatch.

I wore a velvet dress to a wedding in February. I think there were at least 2 other people in velvet dresses.

I understand that you like what you like.

I also wonder if it’s a bit early for winter dresses with sleeves. Maybe in a month there will be a bunch of holiday dresses that have sleeves.

I feel more comfortable in a sleeve these days. I have a lot of jiggle these days lol!

Having aerated a few lawns in my day (and always with heels that didn’t survive the process), I’d give a tip of the hat to the bride for that advice!

Oh, I love velvet/stretch velvet. But I was brought up with the fashion rule that it was only acceptable from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day. I know, I know. I’m ridiculous.

These are the two that @soozievt linked that I like the best:

The embellishment is giving me pause on the burgundy one. It feels a little, “pageant,” to me?? But, I love the v-neck and long sleeves. The second one is stunning, but dark navy is not my favorite. In the pics, it looks awfully close to black.

Many that people have shared are just so close! I guess I’m too picky. Imagine how dreadfully particular I’m going to be if my ds ever gets married!

I think both of the ones pictured below have a timeless quality that the malachite green dress doesn’t have.

I don’t think the long-sleeve burgundy one looks “pagent-y!” If it was embellished all over, that would be different. I think this dress has sleeves like you prefer, is a color you say you like a lot, a neck line you like, and has a slim structure like other dresses you seem to like. I think this embellishment just adds a little zip to what would otherwise be plain, and I’d say it is like the equivalent of a jeweled necklace with a plain dress.

While the second one has a background that is a deep navy, I think there were a few other dresses of a similar shape or floral I linked to that were in colors you seem to like more. I threw this one in because other aspects of the dress seemed to fit a style you were saying you like.

These are 4 other Kay Unger dresses with a V-neck:

They seem to be having a sale on these dresses.

Then, there’s this dress on sale with a V-neck and if you zoom in, there are plum colored flowers, a color you like:

Some beautiful dresses here. My fav is the expensive green one.

Remember hemming after the event to make a shorter dress for other occasions might help you spend the money. Most of the others would look good shorter, too.

I’m also not a fan of the embellishment. Here is a dress that looks similar without bling.

I truly like the teal midi dress

SOOZIET posted several I like, like the first green dress and the third. I think she could have a job as a personal shopper

Could that be the time for the ceremony and the reception is actually later? This is common in some of my circles. There are often several hours between the two events. You go to the ceremony dressed for that venue, then go home and change for the dress-coded reception.

Dunno, all the events I’ve ever attended, NO ONE was expected to ever change attire.

We’ve been to a couple of weddings where this was done. Ceremony at 2 pm, reception at 6 pm or so at a different location. Many guests took the time between the events to change into their party clothes and dance shoes.

Very common for Catholic Church weddings to be in the afternoon or even the morning, with a long break between ceremony and evening reception. At my home church weddings were at 10 am, noon, and 2 pm on Saturdays. We had a 2 pm wedding and the reception didn’t start until 6. Many guests changed in between.

We have attended many weddings where there was a time gap and different venue for ceremony & reception. At all of them, we have just relaxed between the events and gotten ourselves to the reception where they were having guests mingle and often having appetizers & drinks served (while wedding party & family were with photographer).

I’ve never changed between the events, but can see how one would easily have lots of time to do so if desired. I’ve not noticed anyone in different clothing either, though I was told my BIL rescued one of my nieces who had a bloody nose all over her white flower girl gown. He was able to stop the bleeding & get all the blood off the dress and she looked perfect in all the photos.
