I don’t like the last one as well, maybe the color and I’m not fond of the neckline.
I like the very first one as well as the gorgeous green

I feel like the green is the most unique. It has a more, “modern,” feel to me. There’s a wrap that matches it ![]()

This is midi but has a formal feel:

Can you wear an off the shoulder? This is available in small sizes.
Someone find @Hoggirl the green dress on another site for a better price! It’s the clear favorite of @Hoggirl and the collective bunch here . But I absolutely understand not paying that price point for a one time event without another planned event to wear it at. That dress is MOG/MOB price point!
I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around a formal gown in a church. I haven’t been to a church wedding in 40 years.
All the dresses are beautiful. The last one with the short sleeves I think could look unflattering if one’s arms have the least bit of extra skin.
Have you tried on the first two?
My daughter found a Lulu’s dress for the formal wedding she went to last year & then looked on Poshmark and bought it in the color she really wanted for hardly anything. Even with the hemming she needed, it was still a lot less than retail. Formal weddings are few and far between for her group, so it was definitely a win-win.
Of course we all like the most expensive option!
My husband says I have an eye for the most expensive option! It’s true. I have good taste, what can I say?
I think the thing that annoyed my D not finding out the dress code for a formal wedding a couple of weeks ago is that she had to go to the mall and get a dress at Nordstrom. If she had time, I’m sure she would have ordered something cheaper. Or rented a dress.
This dress costs less and is in a related colorway:

the link may lead you to the wrong color, but when you open the link, then click the color that says “dark navy” (it has a lot of green)
Me too! I have not been to a church wedding in 30 years, so I looked up if there are any modern guidelines, and sure enough, Adriana Papell has a helpful guide!
IMO, all dressers posted by @Hoggirl are fine!
I saw that dress and considered posting, but I wasn’t sure @hoggirl was looking for us to find her other options. I like the blue/green option of the Anthro dress.
I also saw that dress but thought the cap sleeves weren’t the desired coverage for arms.
I know she didn’t ask for more options, but @Hoggirl’s hesitation with the other green sheath seemed to be the price, so I thought I’d look for something similar but cheaper.
Originally for MOG dress, I was hoping to stay under $300 (which eventually I easily managed). Upped it to $500 without any better options for that particular garden semi-formal dress code. So I agree that the pretty green dress is rather pricey for a friend’s wedding. Not saying it would not be worth the splurge. Just that I understand the reluctance.
This green one is pretty. Oh, size 4 might be too small.

Also I think the original proposal is quite pretty.
I have the Anthropologie dress. I wore it to 2 weddings.
The satin is dressier than mine which is in a more casual fabric. It does run small. But I found it flattering for me.
Not convinced it is formal wedding attire but like I said mine is in a much different fabric
May I ask what type of church the wedding is in? To a degree I don’t understand the idea that you can’t wear anything sleeveless or slightly open back or one-shoulder with a light wrap in church. I mean I understand any dress that has one’s breasts or behind falling out or maybe a full open back…..don’t a lot of brides - even for a church wedding - choose a dress that has no sleeves or shoulder straps. Maybe this wedding is in a stricter religion or regionally there are differences???
It’s a Methodist church. No one will care. It’s all in me.
My restrictions are pretty much all self-imposed. Generally, I would do sleeveless. I would do off-the-shoulder. I personally would not feel comfortable doing a halter or strapless or spaghetti straps or one-shoulder dress in a church. That’s just a personal choice. But, another part of my challenge is this wedding is in early November. I don’t think I’d wear a sleeveless regular top or dress in November. So, the concept of having no sleeves when it’s going to be potentially cold just isn’t my jam. Although, it’s not as though a sheer. Ap sleeve will go far toward warmth. Ha ha! If it were after Thanksgiving, I would for sure be looking at stretch velvet in a jewel tone. Again, another self-imposed rule. lol.
Also, I am not necessarily looking for green. I don’t think I even own anything green. That uniqueness of the fabric is what caught my eye. I don’t hate anything against green at all. My color of choice would be a burgundy or a rich, dark chocolate brown. Plum, or deep purple.
I appreciate all the help and suggestions!
It’s funny - most of my local friends prefer that last dress. The one with the black background and floral embroidery. I like the neckline on that one.
I’m not really a fan of either a mock neck or crew neck. (As the first two dresses have). They aren’t the best on me. So, what is happening is that I’m finding fabrics I like, and shapes that I like but not together.
I really like that second one. That is probably a much better shade of green for me as well.
Edit: the only thing I worry about is its being too drapey. I’m kind of narrow in the shoulders. I wouldn’t want it to look sloppy or have to be constantly fidgeting with it.
