Dressing Young 2026

The shirt dress is very pretty and unique. Two things.

I’m curious what the front looks like - in the pic it looks like it’s quite open - is there an under layer ?

You are a small women. I feel like the dress is A LOT of fabric and consumes you. Did it feel heavy or awkward to wear, sit or dance in??

Here’s a maxi shirt dress for a lot less $$$, if it may be of any interest.

It’s at 5:00 pm.

It was organza so much less bulky than a brocade or damask, etc.

Soooo, I rolled my ankle and broke a bone in my foot (base of my 5th metatarsal), so I may be in a boot for this wedding. If that changes anyone’s thoughts on dress choices. Lol.

(I’m fine)

Oh no! I’m so sorry!

Yikes! I’m so sorry! I’d say comfort is your friend and something you won’t trip on (and no one near you will trip either). Midi might be safer than maxi with a soft boot.

Are you driving or flying? When is wedding? Knee scooters can be wonderful as well. My SIL used one while she recovered from a broken bone in her foot and even used it at work.

I just read a lot of books, rested and no knee scooter. I used crutches.

Oh dear! Take care. Based on my experience with a broken foot this summer, find reasons to sit whenever you can. And if you’d like a color coordinated collapsible cane, I got one of these in green floral and it went beautifully with my long green dress I wore to Comic-Con.

Yes, when I flew internationally shortly after being able to remove soft boot due to broken bone in my foot, I brought along a folding cane in my suitcase, just in case. Fortunately I never needed if but it was good to have!

Should heal just fine in about six weeks. The fracture is in a, “good,” spot. I’ll likely be on the cusp of having the boot off for the wedding. I’ll know after I have a follow up. Was just seen and x-rayed at urgent care over the weekend.

Not much pain at all.

But, dress shopping will be put on hold for a bit while I follow up on this little incident.

Appreciate y’all’s concern!

@HImom - it’s a local-to-us wedding. Just a 30-minute drive.

Oh, sorry about the foot! If you went to a longer skirt, the boot wouldn’t show much. BUT my experience with injured parts is that having it visible, especially in a crowded place, is generally helpful because it alerts people around you to be careful. Boots, slings, crutches, etc are all useful in this regard.

So sorry, @Hoggirl!!

My SIL was able to buy a 2nd hand knee scooter at a very reasonable price, used it while she needed it & then resold after she was done. It’s worth considering if you are supposed to not be weight-bearing on it.

I opted to read a lot of books, rest & use crutches when I had broken bone in my foot.

With an injured foot, I’d probably focus on comfortable supportive flat footwear and an outfit that would look good with that & maybe some nice jewelry that goes with it.

The last thing me I boulgt a long dress, it was used once, then donated. I prefer cocktail dresses.
Even for my son’s wedding, I had an outfit made with a silk tunic and pants, with slits. Anyone I’d go for cocktail, midi, and comfortable other shoe

Ps I think you’d look good in anything, with your height and body.

Putting in a second vote for flat supportive footware. Even if you’re out of the boot, healing just means the bones have finished knitting the break. There could still be residual swelling and muscle weakness. The surrounding tissue will still be continuing to heal, and any kind of heel could set that back. Hopefully your doctor has recommended physical therapy.

In the boot six weeks. Weight-bearing as tolerated. The wedding is six weeks and one day from the injury. However, his office isn’t open on Fridays, so I won’t see I’m until the Monday after the wedding. He said I could wear non-wedding looking shoes, but I may just stay in the boot for safety’s sake. Then no one will ask me why I’m not dancing, etc.

It does make me more inclined to go with a midi. I feel like I have an excuse now not to do a long dress.

But, I’m going to put a pause on looking for just a bit.

If you wear a long dress, you can wear compression socks and supportive shoes and they won’t show. You will likely be tired of the boot by then. I speak from experience! I buy Sockwell compression socks and they have some pretty designs and colors.

Yes, I was afraid someone on tour would bump my just healed foot but that didn’t happen and travel with it was uneventful.

I’d probably opt for some very comfortable elegant pants, supportive shoes and socks and a gorgeous top & jewelry. The elegant pants give more options for footwear.

@Hoggirl I know you’re putting a pause on looking, but Bloomingdales has a sale on right now and it includes Hobbs of London dresses (if you want to sneak a peak - lol).
