Dressing Young 2026

Hope you heal quickly! I’d avoid long dresses because of tripping hazards. IMO, smart to go with a midi.

I’d also avoid Amazon unless it is a well known brand. I bought a couple of items with excellent reviews only to discover that the seller changed either fabric or style and kept the old description. So both were returned.

Something like this with an elegant top & lovely jewelry would look nice. No one would focus on your foot. Cute supportive stockings and footwear could complete the outfit.

Honestly, no one is going to be focused on my foot anyway. I will feel safer with the boot being visible, I think. Since I won’t have had my follow-up x-ray by then, I’m not sure I would feel secure in just my running shoes. I’m sure I will be sick of the boot by then, though.

Plus, if I wear a boot as opposed to a pair of running shoes, no one will think I’m an idiot. The boot is self-explanatory. Running shoes paired with a fancy dress is not.

And, by the way, I just want to add that nothing says, “Dressing Young,” like wearing a CAM boot! :joy::joy::joy:

If you wear a boot on one foot, you might want a shoe that’s same height as the boot, so your gait is even.

@Hoggirl don’t blame you for taking a break

In a couple of weeks, you should have a better idea of what you want to do in regards to the wedding. I like to take a spell to make choices and regroup

Sorry to hear about the injury, hope the recovery isn’t too bad. I was in a boot a few years ago, it went faster than I was expecting so I hope yours does also.

Oh, I will have my running shoe on the other foot. Doc said no wedding-type shoes.

On a positive note, the $425 shirtdress many of us admired you modeling looks like it has space for a boot & a running shoe!

What is scuba fabric like? Is it like thick wetsuit material?

No, it is not that thick! It is substantially thinner but behaves like one if that makes sense. Stretchy and doesn’t wrinkle and hugs the body without being restrictive.

I really wanted a pair of easy shoes that are easy to put on and off.

Easy to run errands, go to the mailbox. Look nice enough to wear to dinner

I just got these

I have thinner but not narrow feet. These work but I’m on the fence. Last year I wore my sketchers for this purpose but wanted something a little more upscale. They fit well.

I also had a pair of Taos felt clogs that while they did the job, they weren’t nice enough imo to wear out. Here you don’t dream of wearing shoes in someone’s home.

Anyone else lazy but want something nice that’s easy to take on and off?

They are cute  I have a pair of Easy Spirit TravelTime clogs (actually more than one pair) for that kind of purpose. Often I bring them on trips, use them like slippers in the hotel room but also wear them down to breakfast. Your choice is more stylish.

Nice!

I too like simplicity and fuss-free clothes and shoes! If a dress requires another person to zip it up in the back, it gets returned. If the shoe needs to be buckled, that’s a no. The only shoes that get a pass are my favorite Valentino sandals. Just because they are amazingly comfortable!

Always. I hate having to tie shoes, which is why I hardly ever wear sneakers, and am a flip flop girl all summer. I have clogs on my list for this year (Rothys, UGG, Cozy Earth).

I bought 2 pair of slip on boots from Kizik last winter. Living in a cold (and snowy) climate I like the convenience of slipping on boots when I have to go out. Kizik has a lot of styles, not just boots.

I bought the shirt dress at Dillard’s yesterday. Price be d@mned - at least I’m not buying shoes.

So, here is the issue: the hem seems to be kind of curved in the back. Probably intentional. It slightly drags the ground (only in the back). I would like to get it leveled out/made even all the way around. Probably also slightly shortened overall just to not worry about tripping so much. It’s kind of the belt that is holding it up off the ground in the front, kwim? So that has the potential to shift, I think.

How much should I have it shortened in the front? I’m probably not going to be able to try it on at the alterations place. Seems a bit too risky, so I need to just tell her something.

I am disinclined to shorten it too much as it is doing a pretty effective job of hiding my boot. Even though I might prefer it shorter long-term so as to get more use out of it. But, I certainly don’t want to trip.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that my good friend who is also going to this wedding is having the same fundamental sentiments that I was about the overall struggle. It is very difficult to find a long dress that doesn’t look too MOB/MOG-ish but also isn’t too revealing/s€xy for a church wedding ceremony. I understand wraps can be used, but it just adds one more thing and increases the cost of the the endeavor!

You look lovely in that dress! I’d take the dress in to the alterations place and explain your concerns and ask that she pin it to where she intends to shorten it and you can look it over and see what you think. They are used to handling such issues. We did that when D was a bridesmaid and I told her she HAD to hem the gown, even though she said it was only slightly brushing the ground—I told her I didn’t want her nor anyone near her to trip. The alterations place knew exactly what to do and pinned it while D modeled it and it turned out perfect with no direction from us.

You can’t really tell you’re wearing a boot and athletic shoe in that LOVELY dress!

The dress looks great; good for you! Why do you think you won’t be able to put it on at the alternations place? They may have some ideas for a temporary fix, especially since you may want to significantly shorten it some day. Or wear it with heels! There’s all sort of ideas they use for bridal trains and such, like loops and clips etc., without having to cut or sew the material. They may have a way to blouson it in the back without looking odd.

I would think that the dress is for a person 5’7” as that seems to be the case for a non petite dress. No more than 3”

I might have it hemmed an inch in the front and have it evened out.

I really struggled with my MOB dress that was a destination wedding. So many MOB dresses were in a heavy fabric for the destination. And then there is the whole sleeveless thing. Also there were no local options so I had to order and return. I finally got tired of that so I picked one

In the end I picked the lesser of the 2 evils. Lighter fabric, sleeveless. I do agree that everything seems to be mature looking, heavy fabric, sexy or prairie floral. It’s hard out there!

That dress is so attractive, I think you will feel great and look great in that outfit!

I’m not sure I’d be comfortable getting in and out of the boot a couple of times in a dressing room. There aren’t always seats, it’s cramped, etc
