Dressing young- cosmetics

I use a tinted moisturizer by Aveda that also has sunscreen. I add just a smidge of tinted moisturizer from E.L.F. The E.L.F. by itself is too shimmery but it adds just enough shimmer to the Aveda. I tried a few things from E.L.F. and ended up liking that product, but only in conjunction with the Aveda, and the eyelash curler.

Me too! :)

A couple of the drugstore lines make CLEAR mascara. This may help you in your quest for mascara for blond lashes.

Clear mascara is also great for taming/smoothing eyebrows the way you want them to go. I think eyebrows tend to get sparser with age and/or too much plucking over the years and it’s ageing to see straggly, thin, overarched brows. So if you can brush them with clear mascara to make the hair go where you want, they will stay there and you can just fill in with a complimentary shade of pencil if desired. I find this makes a huge difference on my face.

Can we talk about nail polish colors? What is everyone wearing these days? I like the dark colors, but not for spring/summer.

I have to second the bare essentials line for balancing skin tone and adding a glow. I wear it only once in a while, and recently forgot I had it on when a younger woman commented that I had beautiful skin. An hour later when I remembered I had makeup on I went back and mentioned it, lol. Anyone have something for menobrain?

I have OPI “A Good Mandarin is Hard to Find” on my toes right now. It’s from the new collection - a slight coral tint, but not too much so.

Thanks, gourmetmom. The coral shades look good with my skin tone, so I will check that out.

I have found a fabulous product for hair- Argon oil- maybe you have heard of it? My hairdresser turned me on to it. I have really course, thick hair that sometimes gets really frizzy. Just a pea sized dollup of the argon oil after shampoo when hair is still wet has done the trick- or you can add it to a leave in conditioning product. It is amazing! It does not make your hair oily at all. I have not had to use the flatiron at all once I started with the argon oil. Can also be used on skin, for wrinkles, acne and excema. You just gotta try it!

I use argon oil as well, and my hair is straight and somewhat fine. It tames the flyaways and keeps the ends healthy. I use just a drop, so the bottle lasts for months.

Where do we find argon oil?

My D’s hair ends to frizz so she uses Moroccan Oil - it’s pricey but you only need to use a tiny amount on damp hair.

I like the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, but I adore my Sephora mineral makeup that you put on with a brush even more.

I recently decided that I needed a better skincare regimen, especially since I started wearing makeup again, and I followed the advice in the book “How Not to Look Old” and went to the Bath and Body SHop looking for Patricia Wexler (I think that’s the name.) They happened to be selling a “kit” that is enough for at least 30 days, and I bought it to try it out. It’s GREAT!! My skin actually DOES look better, especially around my eyes. It may be simply because I am consistently using serum plus moisturizer plus eye cream 2X per day, but it doesn’t really matter: this stuff inspires me to stick with it.

I just checked the bottle and it’s argan oil - from the argan tree that grows in Morocco. It’s probably the same thing as “Moroccan oil.”

I buy it at my hair salon - my stylist started using it on my hair a few years ago.

I have a bottle of the Moroccan oil. I bought it because my hair looked great (very shiny) when my stylist used it, but I eventually came to the conclusion that it was too weighed down and flat. It must be my hair, because a lot of people love the stuff.

I use and love the KMS products - a little goes a long way and lasts a long while. A tiny dab of KMS Flatout makes it much easier to blow out and hair resists the humidity longer. Much better than anything else I’ve tried for this. The holding spray is great, too. Of course, if I’m out in the rain or in extreme humidity nothing will stop my hair from having a mind of its own. In that case I embrace the curls and reduce frizz with another great product in their line, KMS Curlup.

I asked my stylist about that keratin treatment - I didn’t realize that it is not just a conditioner - it will leave your hair straight and relaxes the curls for about three months. I’d consider it, but I’m too afraid my hair would end up flat and with no body, like with the Moroccan oil. Just as well, since they charge a fortune for it where I go.

My hair has become really strange since menopause. It is a completley different texture: not so smooth, but still fine and not as thick as it was. ( I used to have so much hair that it was a problem.) I miss the slick, shiny look I used to have. Is this what argan oil is supposed to fix?

Yes, the argan oil will make your hair soft and shiny. I bought some at Sally Beauty supply, but as I looked into it, it is best to buy online the 100% pure kind. It smells kind of weird, so opt for the kind that has some fragrance to it. It’s really good as a moisturizer, too. The key is to only use a pea- sized amount. It is reasonable if you buy it online, since it lasts for a long time. I am going to have my son try it for his blemishes, since it is supposed to help that, too. But if you want to try it without a big $$ commitment, get it at the beauty supply store, and see how it works for your type of hair.

Hmmm… I use argon and oil (baths) at work daily, but have never heard about “argon oil” Take a couple of capsules of fish oil. It does make a huge difference for your hair. Show dog owners give it to their pets to keep their coats shiny. It works for humans, too :)

BB: do you get fishy burps? :)

My daughter brought me back some oil from India- I don’t know what was in it- it was red and it smelled slightly of menthol. I rubbed it on my legs- but I was afraid to put it anywhere else.

I use jojoba oil occasionally on my skin and hair ( overnight) & I also like shea butter, even though you have to warm it up to use it easily.

I don’t really need clear mascara- everything stays put ok- but there are many times when I would like to be able to wear eye makeup- ( as long as I can get close enough to the mirror to put it on without the brush hitting it), and thats why I was looking for a light brown or dark blond color.

But the really funny thing that I just noticed is that my eye lashes and eyebrows are now coming in darker.
After 52 years of having lt blond eyebrows they are coming in dark?
Not all of them of course- and I still noticed that I have one or two that seem borrowed from Abe Vigoda- but really, really weird.

I have also wondered about the powdery makeups- I still get little dry bits here and there and what do you use to keep your skin smooth enough to use the powders?
