Mafool - I could never get past the fishy burps, so I switched to Evening Primrose Oil.

EK - I was using the bare minerals for a couple of years and really liked it. At some point - thats a euphemism for after menopause - even with moisturizer (and the primers made it worse) I had to switch to a liquid foundation (Lancome Renergie Lift Makeup). I still use minerals for some of my touch-ups, a little over the concealer on my scar.

I am always trying new mascara - I really like Revlon Lash Fantasy. It has a primer on one side and mascara on the other.

Ever since I got new reading glasses, I can see the pores on my face. I was living in such blissful ignorance before. Anyone notice how the pores get huge at certain times of the month?

Do not look in the mirror with your reading glasses on.

Going to give the Argon oil a try. In the mean time I have found a very low brow trick for frizzies - when you’re all done blowing or flat ironing, spray some hair spray - I like the really cheap Pantene/V - onto your hand and then smooth it over the surface of your hair, especially around the face where my incoming stray gray hairs are kind of brittle and stick out in an obnoxious way.

A friend with harpo marx hair swears by the rusk straightening treatment. She does them herself at home every couple of months.

My D flat irons her hair. The hair is looking brittle. She wants something to put on it before using the straightener. Her hair is coarse but fairly straight to begin with. Any suggestions? She didn’t like my suggestion of putting the flat iron away.

mom60, I understand your daughter’s reluctance to part with the flat iron. Since I started using one a couple of years ago, it has completely changed the appearance of my hair. My coworkers don’t even realize that I have unruly, wavy, flyaway hair. But, it has become brittle like your daughter’s. I’m looking for a suggestion as well. I’ve tried a couple of products that are just for this purpose (e.g., CHI) but they make my hair greasy and weighed down.

I’m also wondering if I’m the only one here who can’t find a moisturizer, face powder (e.g., Bare Escentuals), or sunblock that won’t break out my skin. Although my skin is drying out as I age, I’m still very prone to breakouts. It’s like the worst of both worlds. I’ve been using a Clinique oil-free liquid foundation that makes my skin look finished for the office but can’t find a cleansing-moisturizing regimen that doesn’t cause issues. Help.

Have you tried Purpose moisturizer, ww?

No I haven’t. I’ll give it a shot. Thank you.

worrywart, I used to be able to buy it in drug stores, but it is hit and miss now.

[Amazon.com: Purpose Dual Tment Moist SPF15 4oz: Health & Personal Care](http://www.amazon.com/Purpose-Dual-Tment-Moist-SPF15/dp/B002BXISJ4)

‘At some point’ … I noticed I was losing eyelashes so much so, that on one eye I had hardly any eyelashes from center to inner corner. I had heard about Cargo’s Lash Activator, so gave it a try and they came back really nicely. It could have just been the growth cycle of those particular eyelash hairs but it seemed to work. I’d really like to try that prescription lash grower that Brooke Shields flogs in ads, but it’s a little scary. Sounds like a lot of contraindications and side effects. Anyone try this?

anything that can permanently change the color of my eyes gives me pause; makes me wonder what else it is doing.

from the Latisse website: there is potential for increased brown iris pigmentation which is likely to be permanent.

My daughter with naturally curly Guinevere type hair was developing dull, brittle flat iron hair. A friend with naturally curly red hair told her to use the Pantene/V products. They are inexpensive but quite good. She uses the mask and the the deep conditioner and then alternates with the Aveeno conditioner. Plus every now and then I take her to a good salon and they giver her a deep silicon based conditioner.

I live for the day that she embraces her curls but it just isn’t now. She has enough on her plate without me dictating her hair style?

mousegray - LOL - I remember the first time I looked in the mirror with my contacts lenses in. I was shocked that I had a single wrinkle or pore.

The blessing is that at about the time we start to wrinkle and sag, our husbands can’t see us up close without their reading glasses.

I remember my good elderly neighbor, she used to repeat many times of how sometimes while looking through the window, she asked --who is that old lady? Realizing that was her own reflection, then she proceeded to explain that she was still feel young.

There was a piece in the NYT today about Latisse: [Long Lashes Without Prescription, but With Risks](http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/02/health/02latisse.html). It’s not just eye color you have to worry about, but eyelids!

mafool, that’s a consolation!

The thing that made it so scary to look in the mirror applying makeup with new contacts in was that I had to use the magnifying side. Yikes! Who is that? It is sooo unfair, ‘at this point’ to have to look at myself magnified.

Booklady, the eyelid discoloration is on page one of the website. The possible iris discoloration doesn’t show up until page 2.

sewhappy, thanks for mentioning the Pantene Pro-V mask. I’ve just used it and my hair feels soft and full. I already use the shampoo, followed by Alterna volume restore conditioner. (I love that conditioner as it leaves my hair smooth but not greasy.) Happy Mothers Day, ladies!
