Bumping this thread up
Since doing some skin cancer treatment on my face I am now paying a lot more attention to what I put on my face. My skin now is much softer and I would like to keep it that way.
As of now I am using in the morning a moisturizer with an SPF. I also use Smashbox BB Cream mainly for a bit of color.
At night I wash my face with Philosophy cleanser and use Tarte Maracula oil. The skin is staying moist and blemish free but it has been suggested by several friends that I need to add some form of a serum such as a Vit C serum.
Suggestions

I think as long as you are eating enough vitamin c ( I drink emergenc-e every day) that the passion fruit oil is plenty as long as you are having good results.

Also after a certain age exfoliation is required to keep smooth skin- I would recommend a face brush, I use a couple different masks also.

Mom60 - I have been using Perricone Vitamin C products. I don’t know if they have made a difference, but ever since having one major skin cancer on my face excised about twenty years ago, the dermatologist has only zapped one spot, “just to be sure.” I use the Vitamin C restorative treatment every night. I also use his No Foundation foundation because it contains an SPF.

I’ve had two basal cell facial cancers. Since the second, I’ve become a fanatic about sun protection. Usually the moisturizers have just SPF 15. The folks where I had the lesions removed recommended the Clinique City Block, SPF 40 and one other. I have found that it lasts longer than chemical sunscreens, as it contains titanium. There may be other formulations now with titanium or zinc. For the last 6 or so years, I’ve been using it every day, and have had no cancers for 7 years. Hats and staying out of the mid day sun are essential as well.

southercalimom – thanks! If you plan to be in NYC anytime soon, I’ll PM you the info
It took me a while to find an affordable place where I didn’t come out looking all red and blotchy. I have sensitive skin and large pores and they actually disappear after a facial at this place.

NYMomof2 – thanks for the recommendation about the sunscreen – I’ve been looking for one that doesn’t irritate my skin. The Neutrogrena line (with “Helioplex”) makes me break out in a rash.

cartera – I too have rosacea and I use mineral powder now (sometimes with the Smashbox green tinted correcter underneath). But for today I’m trying Garnier “BB” cream (a tinted suncreen with 15 SPF). It calms down the red and slips on easily. I’ll let you know how it wears through the day.

I’ve heard of lots of women making their own vitamin C serum with distilled water, glycerin and ascorbic acid. It should be kept in an amber or dark colored bottle.

I’ve been using a BB I really like that has an 30 SPF, Tarte. It’s very light coverage. I dust mineral powder over it which has an SPF 15 (although I question how effective it is for sun protection depending on how much you use). On another thread a cc member recommended the clarisonic facial brush for exfoliation. I wish I could remember who so I could thank them! Three months later my skin shows a marked improvement.

I love the Smashbox and Tarte products. I use the Smashbox primer and Tarte makeup. I think I am going to try the Smashbox CC cream next. I have rosacea and some age spots so I like the color correction.

Ditto NYMom2 - I also use the Neutrogena line and although I don’t get a rash, my chest feels a little irritated when I use it. I am going to give the Clinic a try. My skin cancer was also a basal cell, something that looked pretty innocuous, and so I am very careful about protecting myself. Hats, sun protection, etc.

I mentioned this product before, but I LOVE philosphy’s keep the peace color corrector with an spf 20 for my face. The No Foundation Foundation that I mentioned also uses Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide for sun protection.

One of my face Skin cancers was a basal and the other squamous. I hate wearing a hat but I after the healing process from the MOHs surgery I don’t want to go through that again.
I have switched to sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc.
What is confusing to me is with so many different products out there now do you know what to wear. How many layers? For example would one wear both a CC cram and a BB cream at the same time?
I don’t have a clarisonic but I see that Ulta has a 20% off one item coupon in the paper today.
I

A cc is a bb with more coverage. Each product line can vary a great deal so you can find a bb with more coverage then another lines cc. They also vary in weather they are really do it all product. I wouldn’t think you’d wear both at the same time, but find one that fit your needs (or come relatively close and add products as necessary such as an additional SPF or powder).

What a great thread! I have coarse wavy hair and have been loving argan oil. Also, for the poster with the frizzies you can buy some styling wax (brand doesn’t matter a long as wax is the first ingredient). Just scoop out a tiny but and rub it on your fingers and comb through your hair. Works great!

I too have coarse wavy frizzy hair. I tried “keratin express” – a one hour treatment at my salon – definitely cuts down on the frizz. My hair looks like it does after a blow out, but it lasts longer.

I love the Tarte BB cream. I use a full-spectrum sunscreen if I’m actually outdoors, but this works well for normal work days. I put a little bobbe brown compact foundation over if I need more coverage.

If you sign up for Ulta’s reward program you’ll get 20% off coupons a few times per year that are good for everything in the store, not just the mass-market stuff. The one before Christmas even covers fragrance. I use them to stock up on high price cosmetics.

Speaking of argan oil, our Costco had this hair care set for sale (shampoo, conditioner and a small bottle of argan oil treatment), and I decided that at $17 it was worth a try. Turns out, I love this stuff!

It does make my hair shinier and much less frizzy.

Before menopause I had stick straight hair. Now I have a bit of wave and some frizz. I used to let my hair dry naturally. I have had to pull my 1985 blow dryer out of the cupboard. I have been using It’s a ten but might look into the argon oil. Would it be too much for hair that needs to be shampooed every other day?

Sorry, mom60, I don’t know anything about argon oil. I’m bumping this thread to ask about age spots.

I have some age spots on my hands that make me think of my grandmother
Has anyone tried a bleaching product to get rid of them? Or would a concealer be better?

i think I would try a bleaching agent first, but I have no personal experience.

As for Argan Oil, I tried it and didn’t like it on my curly hair. I think I might have used too much, and I really did not like the fragrance. If you can get a small bottle, it’s worth a try, I have friends who love it.

KDmom: when I went in for my skin cancer check, I mentioned the age spots on my hands to my dermatologist. She said she does a light freeze on them in a series of 2 sessions (which isn’t covered by insurance since it’s not a medical issue.) I had the first freeze done. Downside: I looked like I had leprosy for about 2 weeks but then they fell off. It looks much better. Haven’t gone for the 2nd session yet, but I think it’s going to be a losing battle as new ones spring up.

“not necessarily a skin care item, but i came across this item by accident. it is a callous remover for my feet and i have never used anything quite so nice! it is made by emoji and i found it on qvc. love it. i mean, i really, really love it–and so do my feet!”

Ditto. I bought one earlier this month, the new cordless version. After years of fighting the dry, hard skin on my feet (which sometimes even cracks in the winter) with various files, stones, creams, etc., after only a couple of sessions with the Emjoi, it is all gone!
