Dressing Young (Part 1)

Popping into CC after a Lenten-driven absence & had to check out this always-fun thread!

I’m not up to speed on the entire rodeo discussion, but here’s what works as “cowboy” in Dallas these days:

Nary a prairie skirt in sight…

MOWC & Missypie–do you remember the shop in Snider Plaza that overflowed with all of the beautiful skirts, jackets, exotic skin boots, and turquoise jewelry? When that shop closed, I figured that look was over for a while. I’m sure it will cycle around again when my daughter is Cattle Baron’s age!

Yep, the Cattle Baron’s Ball pix are looks that I tend to see. We saw quite a few girls in their senior ads (from the yearbook) wearing a cute dress with cute cowboy boots. I think the look is adorable but H thinks it’s ridiculous.

YES! I don’t remember what it was called, though. It was on a corner, right?

We ate at Kuby’s on Sunday and it was the first time I’d been to Snyder Plaza in ages. I guess Kuby’s is the constant, because all the other stores seemed to have changed.

Check out the snakeskin pants! No, no, I’m neither advocating them nor criticizing, just pointing them out.

I ordered a pair of Joe’s jeans. Will see if they look okay or if they are “young”.

mom60, DD and I *loaded up *on Joe’s jeans at the newly opened outlet store. Thier petite lenghth is just right for this 5’6" woman and her baby dauhther of the same height, and there are so many styles, anyone can find the right pair of jeans for their tush! DD wears Joe’s “Honey” and I found out that their “Provocateur” is my perfect fit (hate the name!!! love the jeans).

Alumother, going back to your question about wedges… DH kindly alowed me to use his computer to post this… Here are my dream ones:

They are very comfy, I tried them on  However, since I cannot afford (or rather be caught dead in :)) them, I bought these:

[Sofft Peony at Zappos.com](<a href=“Sofft peony soft silver nappa leather sofft + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com”>Sofft peony soft silver nappa leather + FREE SHIPPING | Zappos.com)

Pure joy for your feet :)

My daughter has been pining for that Valentino bag for months, but I’m certainly not buying it for her! I did tell her that I’m starting to see cheap knockoffs here and there, and if she saves her dimes, she can afford to buy “the look,” but not the bag.

Yes, thank goodness for knock-offs. I indulged in a flaming red ‘petal bag’ and was contemplating a black patent one as well, but couldn’t find a strap configuration I liked. Now I
m thinking it
s just as well I waited, my eye wants something simpler and more tailored for this fall. Will make do with my current summer assortment, until I find IT.

Bunsen, Did you get the “soft silver nappa leather?” I can’t tell what color that turns out to be. Please advise!

while we are posting NM shoes we can’t afford, I want these.

I just learned that one of the weddings we are attending this summer is in an orchard! I want a wedge so my heels don’t sink into the ground, but I don’t want a black ankle strap breaking up the “line.”

mafool, those shoes are beautiful! So elegant, wow, I love them.

Bunsen: love those Sofft shoes! So stylish. They will look wonderful with your summer sundresses. Are you still in Hawaii? It is so cold and rainy in our neck of the woods. Poured all night long. Enjoy your capris and sandals and sundresses everyone, because here in the Seattle area we are still in sweaters, jeans, and rain jackets!

momlove, maybe we can form a consortium of women who wear my shoe size. 4 of us can each put in $125…then we can share! :)

Just discovered this thread. Love it! Since I just lost some weight (and hope to lose more) I’m getting interested in clothes again. I’m 48 and I think I look way too Momish. I’m a home based graphic designer so I wear a lot of casual clothes however I do have meetings several times a week and go out with friends once a week.

My question is if you were starting from scratch what are the Top 10 essentials to have in your wardrode right now? What about this fall?

I’ll bite, cbug, but I probably can’t come up with 10 things.

Start on jeans now, because it may take until fall to find the right ones. Look for a pair of trouser style, in a dark wash, that can be dressed up. Also look for “skinny,” which is not teenager-fits-like-tights skinny, but merely thin. No jeans with waistlines over your navel!

Find a nice sleeveless dress that is not a sundress and is not in a floral pattern.

Buy some fitted short sleeved or sleeveless knit tops that are not t-shirts or tanks. I’ve found these at Ann Taylor Factory Store and Nordstrom Rack.

Figure out what will work for your height and body type in a casual pant. It may be a stone-colored chino, or bermuda shorts or capris (but careful on the capris because they can look very mom-ish.)

Think about shoes. Find some nice flats for the skinny jeans. A pair of sexy heels - you can find sexy in 3" or under and they’re easy to walk in. Do not wear athletic shoes except when undertaking athetic pursuits.

If you are lucky you’ll find a 3/4 length sleeved blazer/jacket that you can throw on over almost anything to dress it up. I have one in black (from Ann Taylor Loft) and one in light stone (from Marshalls!)

Save the sweatpants and track suits for home and the gym.

Anyone have 7-10?

Missypie and MOWC, is Snider Plaza in Univ. Park, not very far from SMU?

Right. Near the law school end.

A lightweight cardigan as an alternative to the 3/4 sleeved jackets

Fitted ankle length pants (J Crew or Gap) for the office with blazers or cardigans

A teeny weenie string bikini (uh- maybe not)

Cowboy boots

^Surely everyone needs a little black dress?
