cbug, just google “femme d’un certain age” and it should be the top result. You can see the Talbot’s lookbook here: [Fall Lookbook](http://www1.talbots.com/online/ecatalog/catalog.jsp?sku=2010LookBook_Fall). I want the jacket on p. 58!

wow…talbots looks different. I wonder if the sizing will change. I have always found their items to be on the large side…
I need to get a pair of red shoes…

I surprisingly like a lot of those Talbot looks, but on page 4, is that Lucy hair or what?

Sorry cbug, I would have included the URL but cc doesn’t want us to link to blogs. Booklady’s directions should take you there. So glad to be useful.

I’m thinking rompers fall squarely in the category of “too young” for most of us!

I’ve been finding some things at Talbots that I like a lot. Some of their stuff is still old-style prim and preppy, but some things are quite nice.

OK, I need advice. I’m packing now for a trip to a business conference (my husband’s the conference goer, I’m the accompanying spouse). One night, there is a “pool party & dinner.” What to wear? I can’t imagine wearing a bathing suit and going swimming at a business conference. And it will be HOT – in the mid-90s.

I don’t own a sundress (I may have some old ones, I’ll have to dig deep in the closet) – I do have flowery skirts and tank tops, though. But honestly – is this unusual to have a “pool party” at a business conference?

You all stand around the pool with a drink in your hand for a couple of hours. I hate those events when it’s hot. Number one thing is to make sure you have shoes in which you can stand for a couple of hours!

^^ Reminds me of an industry meeting I attended every year in January which was always at a golf resort and flipped from east to west coast resorts. One year we were at the Doral in Miami and it was FREEZING cold. The place was NOT heated and one night’s “event” was a pool party. We all stood around the pool dressed in layers of everything we had brought with us. Lovely.

The skirt and tank top (if the tank top is respectable!) should work. Experiment with 2 tanks in different colors and see if that works for you. Add some interesting jewelry and a sheer wrap if you have one.

I think the rompers look kind of silly on anyone over 10. Do they come with a snap crotch? Otherwise, what a pain!

I took note of that jacket, too, booklady. (More black and white!)

Oy. I feel your pain. Definitely bring a wrap or a very light cardigan to wear with that tank top. It will also protect your shoulders from sunburn. I’d bring a swimsuit just in case - my H went on a business trip where “pool party” actually meant swimming, sitting in the hot tub and throwing people back into the pool. H said it was “fun”. Glad I had to leave before that event!

I had to laugh when looking at old movies this week (we’ve been converting them to DVD). There I was when S was a baby, wearing a one piece shorts romper that could have been in the stores today. Although I wouldn’t wear one now, it didn’t look half bad, actually - lots of other outfits were more cringeworthy (shoulder pads, oversized blazer jackets, those HUGE painted sweatshirt tops with leggings).

Talbots looks like it’s trying to move toward the Ann Taylor market, though you still have to pick and choose there. They have some cute Bermuda shorts in the stores now that are inexpensive and have an updated cut. I have them in white - the first thing I’ve bought in that store in decades!

Wow, this is a really long thread. Just going to chime in here. 30 plus years ago I attended a family members college graduation and party in SoCal. The graduates mother, bragged about wearing a dress she bought in the ‘teen’ dept. I was a teen at the time. Yes, this mature woman was in fine shape, but I can tell you this, all of us ‘teens’ thought she looked ridiculous trying to hang onto her youth by wearing clothes meant for the younger set. This applies even to today when I see grown 50 year old men trying to wear Abercrombie tight t-shirts. Please people! Dress appropriately for your age. With so many choices out there today, there’s no reason to try and mimic your 16 year old daughter or your 24 year old son.

I like it particularly because it’s long and lean. Cropped jackets cut me in half and look terrible on me. And yes, the fact that it’s black and white is wonderful! I wish I were someone who could pull off a colorful jacket, but I’m not, and at least this isn’t monochrome black…I have far too much of that in my wardrobe as it is!

The black and white comment was directed at myself!

It’s a handsome jacket and would go with just about everything I own (which is mostly black and white).

I have to confess that I really have to check myself these days, and this thread is a good reminder. I was browsing in a store the other day and I kept finding myself pulling out clothes that were just too young for me in the cold light of day. I guess I have youthful tastes, being a rebel, but now I have to do everyone a favor and tone it down. I guess this is called maturity?

Same with me mousegray, I bought a couple of cute dresses at Express and when I got home decided they were too short and I can only wear them around the house/pool or give them to DD.

I just wandered out at lunchtime from work to check out the huge country music festival that is going on here in town. There are 30000 visitors and then could use some fashion advice. It was GREAT people watching! Plus- it is hot as H&11! I found a seat under a tent to listen to a free concert, and did the stylish thing of folding my white bootleg jeans up over my knees in one large fold (only while sitting- I didn’t walk around like that)! LARGE people in tank tops (men and women) with really bad sunburns. Footwear NOT conducive to walking all over the city. VERY hot and miserable people.
