I have to even out the hating here – I don’t think men should dress like little boys once they are past 20 or so. You know, baggy shorts, big T shirt, baseball cap. Makes them look like giant toddlers. I do wish men dressed with with some dignity.

I completely agree, mousegray. It’s rare to see a well-dressed man anymore, especially on weekends.

Mom, it works for her. She lives in a beachy area and apparently avoidance of calendars is the social norm thus she doesn’t particularly think anything wrong with it cuz ‘everyone’ is doing it. Which, of course, makes it right. LOL.

She also posted pics of herself in a bikini as her FB profile pic.
My son’s teenaged friends with gorgeous faces and super hot bods haven’t even done that. LOL.

mouse, after a certain age there is no pressure for men to look good. They can walk around with stomachs hanging to their knees. Shirtless, even. Ewwww.

I don’t get the shirtless guys with beer bellies. Have they no shame? Seems that some of them appear to want to get a tan - umm…why bother?

A mom with a bikini posting on FB? Hmmm…I read an article that said that 30% of teens would like to un-friend their parents on FB…particularly moms. No wonder. I choose not to invite my son. Maybe when he’s 30 or so…it might work. I like using my dog for my profile pic :)

My husband dresses nicely - even on weekends. Will not step outside the house in any sort of sweats or leisure pants. If he’s in jeans, the shirt is tucked in and he’s wearing a belt. He’s always been that way. I’m sort of the slob of the family . . . will go days in my yoga pants and camisoles and hoodies and flip flops . . .

I would have to say that usually my DH dresses very nicely. His choices are a little boring (how many pairs of khaki slacks and shorts should one man own? Do oxford shirts really come in colors other than blue???) but he always looks very neat. It helps that he is 6’3" and weighs about 183. I tell him how much I appreciate that he takes good care of himself - but this thread will remind me to say it more often!

I’ve got one of those “dresses well” type guys. Doesn’t own sweatpants. Only wears tennis shoes on a tennis court. Doesn’t wear the guy-uniform of khaki and blue as a safety outfit. Doesn’t own a Hawaii shirt. Does own yard maintenance and house maintenance clothes but doesn’t wear them outside the yard. Come to think of it most of the guys dress well in our group. We’re pretty fortunate.

Need to rant for a moment. I’m at a conference with my husband, who told me there was dinner tonight, and we’d be on our own after that. I packed one nice outfit. Went to the dinner (turns out it wasn’t dinner, but a reception) and learned that dinner is tomorrow night. I have nothing to wear – and everyone else is in business suits.

Guess I get to go shopping tomorrow. I always find it a challenge figuring out what to wear to these things. I’m not attending, so it doesn’t make sense to wear a suit – but I don’t want to be too casual or too dressed up.

Aghhh… Husbands! Hope you find something really fabulous (and comfy).

If you can’t find a great outfit, maybe get an amazing accessory (scarf, new top) that will transform what your brought. I love sweater sets myself and find they meet many of my travel needs, especially the non-wrinkle aspect.
It is irksome when you NEED to shop in a place you’re not all the familiar with. Sometimes bringing home a new outfit with memories is nice tho.

Speaking of husbands - mine just shaved off his graying beard of 20 years and now he looks way younger than me. The lower half of his face is smooth and unwrinkled. This is a little unsettling for moi!

I thought this was fascinating - a guy who works for Levi Strauss who says it’s best to wash jeans every six months at the most . . . something I always suspected.

Fireandrain - I have been in the very same situation. And I hate when DH looks at what I have packed and says, “Oh, that will be fine.” No, my jeans and a nice blouse will not quite cut it at a dinner where people are dressed up.

Try to enjoy your shotgun shopping trip!

Report back on your find - curious minds will want to know!

I surf this thread a bit. I don’t think I’m a fashionable as you ladies. In fact I can guarantee I am not. I don’t know if anyone ever shops jjill. They have things that don’t look like your kids clothes, but generally aren’t matronly.

I thought I’d share that they are currently having a special on their sale/outlet items. Take 25% off the sale price. There is a wide variety, but I do like the basic layering long sleeve tees. Very nice quality, and around $10 with the sale.

[Sale > Sale Shop by Category at J. Jill](http://www.jjill.com/jjillonline/callouts/fcallout.aspx?pfid=1222&sk=O&h=O)

J Jill has some really nice linen stuff, but I pretty much gave up on trying to find anything that would fit me at that store - their smaller sizes seem to disappear fast.

I never trust my DH and always pack clothes for all possible occasions when I accompany him to his meetings. I’ve done emergency shopping in the past, and although the result was a very nice little black dress, the process of finding it was no fun. I hate blitzkrieg (sp?) shopping!

^ Agreed, I either find very small or larger sizes. The sale just started so if you have time to surf you might find something. For those not familiar, you can ‘shop by size’ which makes it quicker than opening 15 things you are interested in only to find nothing is available in your size.

Nordstrom is having a not-so-widely adverised shoe sale for women and kids. I just found an email from them in my spam folder. According to my friend, our flagship store had all sorts of Burberry coats on sale (50% off), and they were flying off the shelves really fast. No kidding, with the weather like we had lately, fall shopping had a very robust start. :)

Hmm well if I don’t find anything at the shops over in West Seattle after my guitar lesson, maybe I will hit up Nordstroms- I am going to the thing at the Moore tonight & it is the first date H & I have had for a long time.
( plus need new boots anyway)
Thanks for the tip.

Update: Bought this dress: [REI Touring Knit Dress at REI.com](http://www.rei.com/product/778620?) in midnight plum. After buying it, I went into a bunch of other stores and found nothing, so I’m glad I got it. On the negative side, I’ve now read the reviews of it on the REI site, and know that I can never wash it.
