mom60, considering the fact that you did step out of your comfort zone during that shopping trip, your grade should be at least B-. Old Navy should not count towards your shopping GPA!

Maybe this will change the ad color for me :):

Greetings, all! I regularly lurk on the Parents 2013 thread and was told THIS thread is home to ninja shoppers bar none.
So I would welcome help tracking down a “dream coat” that I fell in love with in 1987 and now can’t find anywhere.

It was a swing/stroller type very very soft black leather with a hood (only a frog or sling closure, I think) entirely fur trimmed and I suspect fur-lined in black fox. It kind of cascaded down the front, to about pettite knee length – not a straight cut, per se. (Not totally rouched either, but a sweeping rounded cut a little bit cape like, but had sleeves.) I had found it at Creeds in Toronto, which went out of business in the 90s. Folks at the furrier in my city seem to think I’m nuts (but are of course, trying to sell me something else.) It might have been a chanel or dior since those were the main lines that Creeds carried, but it also might have been a small house furrier’s design. I did see it again in cream leather and fox in 2000 at a Canadian boutique that is no longer in business – which makes me believe it may be from a Canadian furrier.

Even if I can’t find it to buy it outright, I’d like to get my hands on an image so that I can consider having it made. In '87, it was $5 k, so it’s not likely the type of garment that readily shows up on google the way mass-produced styles do (I’ve been looking with no luck, and I’ve gone pretty deep.)

If any of you recall seeing something in that style, please do post where I might begin to look.

BB!!! THANK YOU!!! I sent the links to D1 and she was sooo very excited! Those are great options for her. I am ordering the navy Tadashi dress from Nordy’s to see how it fits. Will let you know!

northminnesota- I see RueLaLa is having Tadashi Shojhi tomorrow. I don’t know if that is a different line but it might be worth a look tomorrow.
So many of the shoes are stunning. I just can imagine anyone being able to walk in most of them. Who knew orange was going to be such an “in” color.

NMinn - you are welcome! It was really fun to look for shoes that I would never wear (due to their color and heel height).

kmccrindle, I suspect there aren’t many vintage fur experts on CC (I’m definitely not one!). Here are my (lousy) suggestions. I would call furriers in other cities that do restoration and offer fur storage services and ask if they had seen anything resembling the coat in question. It sounds gorgeous from your description! I would also try scouting e-bay periodically - that’s where vintage furs likely would show up. I’m sure you’ve already tried both of these routes, but that’s all I can think of. Good luck to you.

sorry, mafool! Hit send before I saw your post! I had to order in a larger size but am going to see if it can be altered! Nothing ventured, nothing gained! I did call the MOA store to see if they had it there but they didn’t.

kmcindle…how funny is this but for the past couple years I thought you were a guy…don’t take that the wrong way, but every once in a while posters are “all business” and we must not post on the threads where you revealed!

This isn’t it the fur is wrong, but is this the style??

^Indeed, very very close – the trim on the one I saw was finer/narrower and black fox fur and the front kind of cascaded down (rounded) but thanks! Maybe this seller will know if it’s possible to find that combo from his manufacturer!

And thanks, BunsenBurner - great suggestions. I’ve written a few but clearly need to do more.
Cheers, all ;)

Got shut out of a Tadashi dress on RueLaLa yesterday. There was only one left, I snagged it and put it in my cart and then it said sold out when I checked out! Grrrr…

NMinn - what a bummer. My “kevlar” coat order was cancelled by NM today - they only had one and could not find it. But I managed to get a pair of very elegant designer spring boots for just 30% of their retail price :)

Hey! Life got hectic there for awhile and I had to neglect the really, really important discussion on this wonderful thread. But wanted to share an online Garnet Hill purchase I made a few weeks ago that just makes me HAPPY! If you’re built like me then regular shoulder purses always slide off your shoulder and so the cross-body strap is great but usually looks really kludgey. I love this purse – bought it in the clay color which seems to go with everything and it reminds me of the Mary Poppins bag in which everything magically seems to fit but when nearly empty still looks smart.

Looks like I missed some good talk about spring colors. Now that I’m 50+ I just like color, more color and more color. The brighter the better for these aging eyes.

sewhappy, that is a very nice-looking and functional bag! Check out Alumother’s blog - her yesterday’s post was all about adding more color to one’s wardrobe :)

The sun is out, and it smells like spring… I want to run out and buy something very colorful. :)
