^Love the ISSA dress. Very sophisticated without being too MOBish. Nor would it scream, “I’m trying to compete with the bridesmaids” - have seen this at several weddings recently where one or other of the moms were dressed, shall we say, a little ‘too young’. Also, jersey fabrics are very forgiving and flattering on most women.

I like the dress, but I don’t think I would like the color in pictures with lime and orange. I agree about the wrap - from NM description of herself, I think that would be a very flattering choice.

I love the idea of lime and orange, but it does present a challenge for others who will be in pictures with the wedding party. That was why I liked the idea of a floral. Actually, last year I was at a wedding and the mog wore a floral dress. She looked lovely AND fit in well in photos.

Oh dear, MomLive - what was dressing TOO young?

The 514’s are the slim fit Levi’s. The 505’s are the regular fit (recently renamed “straight fit”). The latest version of the 505 sits just slightly below the waist, but is pretty much the standard fit men’s jean without ornamentation. It’s a relatively light denim material and available in every imaginable degree of fading from dark demin (tumbled rigid) to medium (dark stonewash) to light (medium stonewash) to bleached.

Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis and Nautica and so forth all make a standard men’s jean, too – although the Levi’s are just as nice and available in a lot more sizes and colors.

I really like the Docker’s Soft Khaki for something a little less “dressy” than standard khaki’s, but a little more than jeans. These things are really comfortable, seem to be cut a little slimmer (there are also straight and slim cut versions) and are meant to be a little wrinkled (they are NOT iron free and have to be ironed after washing unless you are going for the rumpled hipster look). Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis also sell a similar ‘casual khaki’ style pant, although not in the same variety of colors or fits. Dockers makes these in so many colors, changing every year, that there always seem to be closeout colors.

Question for all you savvy shoppers…What kind of casual shoe do “dressing young” men wear? DH seems to have dress shoes and uber casual shoes (various sport shoes/sneakers, sandals, etc) but nothing that is what I call “smart casual”. We’ll be attending a couple of functions on campus for nephew’s college graduation in a couple of weeks and I thought I’d use this occasion as an excuse to get him some more fashionable shoes. He’ll probably wear khaki slacks with polo (or other short-sleeved) shirt, maybe a sport coat…Thanks!

My H wears Tod’s driving mocs or casual loafers. They look dressed down, but still elegant, imo.

Thank you interesteddad - I actually just bought a couple of pairs of the Levi 505 jeans. They look like the right fit and I found a couple of dark colors I liked. The hubby is on a trip right now but I look forward to him trying them out when he gets back.

Our entire family will gather at Yosemite National Park in July to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. We are having dinner in the Ahwahnee Hotel Dining Room. They now list their dress code as follows:

What to wear? What kind of dress is “resort casual”?

Hmm, to Dh the 505’s are baggy. Then again, he is tall and very, very thin…it’s just his body type.

I’ll have to try and find the Dockers in his size. Kohl’s and Macy’s carried them years ago, but no longer.

resort casual: up 2 notches from casual. No jeans. No Tshirts. But no cocktail dresses for women and probably no ties for men.

So, a nice fitting sleeveless dress, dressy sandals and a cardigan. Or nice fine gauge knit or silk tank and short sleeved sweater over tailored narrow pants (if that suits you) or straight leg pants or skirt.

Men have it easy:Tailored, pressed khakis or grey or navy tropical wight pants with a nice collared shirt. A presentable polo shirt should be ok. Mocs or deck shoes.

Does that help?

LOVE the Kay Unger dress but they don’t have it to fit my bust sz.
Like the floral flowing long dress but the wedding is outside in a garden in the afternoon and no one else is wearing long except for the bride. I need to go short/knee length. You all are so great to help find options for me! :)

Beil:

Men’s shoe fashion right now is pretty much an uninhabitable disaster area. Best to just stick with what’s in the closet and wait it out for a few years. There are two styles currently available:

a) shoes that look like bowling shoes

b) shoes that look like they were designed in the old Soviet Union, with godawful square toes. Just horrible.

For casual, probably best to look for some of the classics: weejun loafers, Sperry TopSiders, etc. Timberland and others make some variations on boat shoes that are insanely comfortable, if not exactly stylish. I settled on a pair of these that I take incessant ribbing about from my daughter, but they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn:

mafool – thanks! (Agree: men have it easy!)

I left out the sundress/cropped cardigan option, Zetesis!

The 505’s are the regular fit for regular shaped guys. The 514s are the slim cut. A guy with a 31 inch waist and 34 inseam would definitely be slim. The 550s are the relaxed fit version for stockier guys. The differences are mostly in how generously they are cut through the butt and hips. If in doubt, it’s worth it to bring home a pair of each (from Kohl’s or Macy’s or wherever) and try them on. It’s all just a matter of how much butt/hips/thighs the guy has in relation to his waist.

Dockers has a good fit guide at their website to decipher it all:

[Dockers Store Online - Dockers: FIT GUIDE](http://us.dockers.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=3562842)

The equivalent Dockers are:

D1 (hipster/Jesper Parnevik)
D2 (slim)
D3 (regular/classic)
D4 (relaxed)

NorthMinn - The wedding I attended last year was also outside and that’s why I thought the MOG looked so wonderful in a floral. The MOB was dressed in taffeta and although it was a beautiful dress, she looked wilted. I have to remember that you don’t live here with 90 degree heat and corresponding humidity - but keep it light!

Back to the drawing board.

WNP… I like the floral! It’s the length. I don’t think I should wear long. Am I wrong for an afternoon garden wedding???

NO, I agree! I would go knee length - I just think your personal online shoppers need to keep light, perhaps floral, and not stuffy (literally and figuratively) in mind as we look.

Gosh, I wish this had been last year. My D was in St. Paul for the summer on an internship. I could have visited her and met you at the MofA for a shopping blitz!!

Zetesis, I love this dress from Garnet Hill. [Chloe Tie-Back Dress - Garnet Hill](http://www.garnethill.com/chloe-tie-back-dress/womens-fashion/dresses/view-all-dresses/205446)

Actually, I love most of the dresses this year from Garnet Hill. Cute fashionable cotton dresses that I can wear with a regular bra lol! I like to be comfortable when I’m casual!

NM, you mentioned that separates work well for you.

mafool!!! I really like it!!! And it says it is available where my D got her wedding dress! I will call to see how long it takes to get in. The midori color might be interesting with the wedding colors.
