lol . . . the Queen’s purse is just unspeakably ugly. I do like her gloves. They look like really, really serious white gloves, custom made, no doubt. For some bizarre reason I’m finding myself wanting a pair! Her Ferragamo’s are awesome. Yeah for the Queen!

Went on a little shopping spree yesterday. Saks had their “presale” of summer clothes, so I found a few things on sale. I tried on this dress, but did not buy it, and now I find myself thinking (pining) about it. What do you think? I may buy it online:

It ran big and they did not have a smaller size - but I see the smaller size online…

I rarely buy Eileen Fisher, but this dress caught my eye. A very simple and comfortable daytime dress:

[Eileen Fisher - Organic Linen Sequin Tank Dress - Saks.com](<a href=“http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374306418048&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524446414658&R=828486600350&P_name=Eileen+Fisher&N=306418048+4294912384+399545540&bmUID=i.wxw_h]Eileen”>http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER<>folder_id=2534374306418048&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524446414658&R=828486600350&P_name=Eileen+Fisher&N=306418048+4294912384+399545540&bmUID=i.wxw_h)

Oooh, I love the first one. Wouldn’t do a thing for my coloring - but if the colors are flattering for you - BUY IT.

The second one is nice, but the first one is really special!

Thanks, worknprogress2. The first one is really an out to dinner or special event dress, while I will wear the Eileen Fisher to knock around in on a hot day. I’m blonde and look best in cool colors, so I thought the first one would be nice. And it’s loose and comfortable - the waist can be cinched to fit.

Gmom - ever since you posted that you resemble Meryl Streep, you unwittingly picked up a new friend. One of my very closest friends passed away a couple of years ago and I miss her every single day. She looked like Meryl Streep - particularly how she looked (because Meryl is capable of looking so different) in Music of the Heart. My dear friend was half Irish, half Italian with Meryl’s beautiful face and her grace and humor. As she battled cancer we would often joke that when they made a movie, Meryl would of course play her. When she lost her hair and we were shopping for wigs, she joked that Meryl was not going to be happy about shaving her head.

Anyway - when you post, I just see my dear friend and it makes me feel so happy & sad at the same time.

I pm’ed you!

Gourmetmom, I love the Piazza dress! Meryl would look fantastic in it, and I’m sure it will be very flattering on you, too! My shopping rule: always trust my instincts and gut feeling. If I walk away from something and cannot stop thinking about it, I have to go back and buy it. Go for it!

Wnp, I’m so sorry about your friend.

GM - I had just posted today about my Eileen Fisher organic linen dress:). As for the Piazza, I couldn’t wear it - too yellow. Perhaps you are paler than I. Too much red in my skin. That said, I do like the cut.

I just ordered it. Yellow is not a color I normally wear, but it has enough blue, which is my best color. Even though I’m pale, I have yellow undertones. It will look much better if I get a slight tan - if the sun ever comes out here in New England. Best of all, even though it looks elegant and dressy, but it is actually loose and comfortable. I hope the smaller size fits!

Alumother - Great blog this week. The dress is perfect with the Sperry’s - I had my eyes peeled for that shoe yesterday, but it’s probably not in many stores. I did not see your dress in the Eileen Fisher at Copley in Boston, so it must be all gone…

…and I’ve always, always loved orange with denim!

I also bought a linen sheath dress, which surprised me. I usually avoid a sheath style because I think it can add pounds, even though I like the simplicity and the clean line. This one really works, unfortunately, I can’t find it online anywhere to show you. Does anyone else wear sheath dresses? Do you think they can make one look a bit hippy? Or too country club wife?

I do not shy away form sheaths, but I am not “hippy.” I do shy away from linen sheaths because I fear they will look frumpy and maybe saggy when they inevitably wrinkle. Not so?

I like sheath dresses. I find they fit my body type.I don’t have and have never had much of a waist add to that a leg length difference that results in my hips being uneven that anything fitted at the middle doesn’t hang right. I also like linen. My biggest beef with most linen sheath dresses is what to wear under them. I don’t think they look frumpy unless they are too long on the person.
GourmetMom- I think the dress is beautiful. his coming from someone who HATES yellow.

Thank you GMom:). The Eileen Fisher seems to be only online at Garnet Hill, not in stores. I hope the Piazza dress is just wonderful - usually when one is drawn to something like that, it works.

And I do wear sheath-ish dresses, but I do best with some indication of a waist, or a narrowing through the middle. Otherwise the dress will hang straight down from my shoulders and I look like a rectangle. I like the look, and find it, done right, to be very sophisticated.

I agree, Alumother! I have broad shoulders and if there isn’t some narrowing - good description, by the way - it is not flattering at all. I am not going to walk 4.5 miles everyday and then wear something that looks like a potato sack! I will save that style for when I have allowed myself to go to “pot.”

On the other hand, a slim sheath with a hint of waist, is very attractive. Great shoes, a cute sweater, a very understated look.

Oh yes, wnp, the cardigan is a nice part of the whole picture:).

Agree with all of the above! :)

You ladies have been such a bad influence today, LOL! I had to stop by Nordies and take a peek (just a tiny peek!) at the LK Bennett collection. Ooh-la-la, very nice, quality clothing. As I was telling myself to step away from the LK Bennett dress that I liked, I ran into a rack of absolutely gorgeous, sky blue shirt Boss Black dresses.
[BOSS Black ‘Dashina2 1010481’ Shirtdress | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/boss-black-dashina2-1010481-shirtdress/3177955?origin=keywordsearch&resultback=216)
I had to have the only size 6 dress from that rack! Button down shirt dresses sometimes present a problem for me, but this dress was structured like a Bashina shirt - no buttons! I thought DH would kill me, but all ended up well. H approved of the dress (he was in a good mood because he got invited to give a talk at a conference). As they say in the M&A business, “financial terms were not disclosed”. :)

On another note, our former foreign exchange student invited us to her college graduation in San Diego where she studied on an athletic scholarship! DH said that he can do some business there, so we are going! Any “what to wear to graduation ceremonies in San Diego” suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Love the dress, Bunsen. It’s a great color. I’m a huge fan of Boss for women - the quality and fit is wonderful. I just bought a pretty skirt and top by Boss at Saks - about half of the line on sale in stores (not much online, for some reason). I especially like their stretch wool pants.

BB - I will be attending a graduation next week and I intend to wear a sleeveless white sheath (with aforementioned narrowing), a blue cardigan with small white polka dots (school colors!), and probably white wedge sandals. I am also taking a black sheath (with aforementioned narrowing) for an evening event. I haven’t decided on what else I will be wearing. I know the weather could be hot or very wet and cold. As I think about it, I should probably also pack footwear that would work in the rain. Blue flipflops!

White with the blue cardigan sounds very pretty - fresh and summery.

I agree that a sheath needs to have some shape. It may be that it needs to hang a bit from the shoulder, yet have definition at the waist. A dress that grabs at the hip or upper thigh is a problem. I actually can’t remember what the dress I bought the other day looks like. I had everything shipped, and now it’s a big premenopausal blur! It must have looked okay, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it, right?

wnp, your outfit sounds lovely. I looked up the school colors, and unfortunately, they are not very “summer-y”. I will have to go with the Plan B: research the school colors of their main rivals and make sure that I’m not wearing anything in those colors! I actually did it for UW graduation; since I simply was not too excited about wearing yellow and purple, I wore a neutral-colored dress with a pop of spring colors and made sure that I did not have any crimson and steel gray on. :)
