Dressing Young (Part 1)

If you want to get a sense of just how thin Kate really is, scroll down in this link to see a photo of her next to Nicole Kidman. Nicole looks huge in comparison!
Our D looks similar in size to Kate…believe me the kid eats. My H is equally thin, he eats. Not everyone who is thin is anorexic, some folks just grow that way. I do wish models and catalogs would feature healthly women, not bone thin. I like Kate’s choices, they are lovely and appropriate for the occassion.
Besides, if Kate gains 5 pounds now, the whole world is going to start speculating that she is expecting.

That might be the case of some people like your D, but if you see photos of Kate from a year ago or while she was in college she’s not nearly as thin as now.

I hope she is able to regain the weight as she adjusts to married life!

She could be eating plenty and still lose weight due to stress. That happens to me, it’s like my metabolism goes into hyper-drive. When things settle down, the weight comes back.

She is definitely the thinnest she’s ever been. Rumor has it that she was doing that trendy but controversial Dukan diet out of France, soon to be here in America. I think her mother reportedly lost weight on this before the wedding. People eat nothing but protein and oat bran ( plus 20 minutes exercise minimum per day)for up to a week, then alternate days of acceptable fruits and veggies with all protein days until they lose as much as they want. At that point they eat a balanced diet but with one all protein day a week. Regardless of whether she’s on this, a lot of people apparently think so and are trying it, which may not be such a good thing.

Yup. Me too. And my kids. Some people eat from stress. Some people drop weight from stress. I have dropped weight from just sheer joy. Who needs food when you’re having the time of your life?

But, yes, it could be something more sinister and one hopes not. And yes, I think she would be more lovely with five or so more pounds.

Agree with the 5 lb. However, by the Euro standards, she is probably not underweight. Eons ago, when we were traveling in Europe, DD and I went shopping hoping to take advantage of the summer clearnce sales (not the fancy-schmancy stores, just some affordable ones!), and there was hardly anything that would fit a 5’6", 150 lb woman (pretty average by the US standards). D made it out of the mall with a boatload of dresses and skirts, and all I was able to find was one XL size dress…

I like Kate’s style because her clothes, most of the time, look like something that I can be wearing to work or to a dinner. I’m also looking forward to discovering more (new to me) UK designers.

If anyone wants to see the roundup of Kate’s fashions for their tour, this is a summary article:

I like seeing which shoes and purse and jewelry she chose. I think she should wear more jewelry. Simple is one thing, but her look makes it seem like she doesn’t own much jewelry.

It interesting that several posts commented on the yellow dress; that was the only dress she wore that I didn’t like on her. Not a flattering style and the skirt blew up in the wind.

I liked her beige dresses, the gray retro dress, the navy lace dress. My favorite was the purple Issa dress with her hair in a chignon. Loved the maple leaf diamond brooch too.

Anybody venture a guess—Are her legs are bare? In some of the pics her legs seem to shine as if she’s wearing hose.

I think she has been wearing hose in most of the pictures we see her in.
I love her style and the simplicity is great. I think at her young age, little jewelry is best.

Wish she would also wear COMFORTABLE shoes sometimes instead of only stilettos. The latter are so bad for feet & back but I guess she’d be criticized mercilessly if she didn’t conform to the hose & stiletto expectations. :frowning: I’m glad most young people are OK in fitted jeans/slacks & comfortable shoes, in general.

She wears a lot of platform type espadrilles and flats, actually.

I love how they look on her. She seems just lovely to me. I am so happy to have a young woman her age look so classy. What an inspiration.

Have to say I really love the cowboy hat look. That takes a bit of panache to pull off.

I hope the makers of clothes for the younger crowd pay attention to what she wears and shift away from the Snookie style which dominates the junior departments of Macy’s etc.

I didn’t catch much on TV so fun to look at the pics of the princess. It did get better after the little girl yellow dress with the poofy sleeves. The lilac evening gown was lovely as were some of the more neutral dresses. She’ll hit her stride and probably wonder why the yellow dress. There was one other dress that had the little girl poof sleeves and I couldn’t agree more with the end of the snookie streetwalker look…can’t disappear fast enough.

OK ladies…don’t get the chance to post much here anymore but I need your help.
Invited to an outdoor bash on Saturday. Supposed to dress “country” (like country and western). It will be in the 80s and will likely dip down to the 70s in the evening.
I have no CLUE what to wear. Checkers? Ruffles? Too warm for boots I think. Please help!
I am SO not into country and western…
I have a great pair of white lightweight jeans to start with…

toneranger,

Check out Kate in her Western look - fabulous jeans, button-up shirt form-fitting, and a Hat.

Regarding the canary yellow poofy sleeve dress – Okay. I guess it’s a little off but I can’t help it. I loved it. I think my mom made me one like that when I was a little girl . . . for Easter with a little hat and white gloves, the fashion zenith of my life!

I am completely into country. (It is no longer called country and western.) Your white jeans would be fine- with either the anke-type cowboy boots or real boots. A fitted western style shirt would be good (no checkers or ruffles) or even a white t-shirt with a lightweight denim vest over it. Other options would be a denim skirt, red t-shirt and bolero tie.
