Dressing Young (Part 1)

mom60 - dang! That’s a great bathing suit.

Packer - For that dress, I see Bollywood style:). It’s made in India, after all. In other words, chandelier earrings and stacked bangles - no necklace. The earrings and bangles can be matte, if you have sparkle shoes, or crystal, if your shoes are matte. In fact, that same site where you got the dress has scads of bangles, and stacking is “on trend” right now, so should be easily locatable for very minimal funds. Think of the drama! Yikes! Fun:).

Also might want some Spanx, now that I think about it. At least I would, since my stomach is the one bit that seems to want to declare to everyone that I’m over 50 and I don’t want to give it a platform.

wnp - I am sure that you would have looked wonderful without our help, but I’m glad we were around to be your dress up girlfriends. Everybody needs them now and again.

I have been so focused on what to wear to all of the wedding activities I have neglected to look for something to wear to the U2 concert this coming weekend! It is an outside venue and will be very hot during the day but it cools off significantly in the evenings here. Any suggestions? I really don’t want to wear long jeans if I can come up with another option.

NMinnesota - I love the maxi look in the hot summer. I just think dresses are way cooler than shorts or pants or skirts.

Alumother - how brilliant to discern the Bollywood vibe in Packer’s dress. If she isn’t a bangle type, though, I’d consider a really fun watch with some sparkle and/or dash of color. A friend’s DH gave her this watch when their son got married and she wore it to the wedding and I thought the whole symbolism of time was a really nice gesture for the MOG.

Alumother, your solution to the jewelry question is brilliant! According to D, Claire’s is a good source of inexpensive mix-and-match shiny bracelets and bangles.

NMinnesota, I like sewhappy’s suggestion of a maxi (or simply a longer) dress. Bring a cardigan, and you will be prepared for the drop in temperatures. (I’m jealous - a U2 concert! Enjoy!).

I’m doing a happy dance, because the Lafayette dress I’ve been eying for so long did go on sale:

[Lafayette 148 New York Ruched Shirtdress with Belt | Nordstrom](http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/lafayette-148-new-york-ruched-shirtdress-with-belt/3159210)

Apparently, I got the last one today. Alumother, you mentioned that you’d wear a different belt with this dress - I’d love to hear your suggestions. And, of course, I welcome other DY posters’ suggestions.

Love the dress, BB. Would be a perfect work dress (for me). Looks like that rare type of dress that is flattering on nearly everybody. Lucky! And the last one was in your size!

ETA: I like the belt but would need to see it in person to make a final call.

NorthMinnesota, I just saw them! The stage and special effects were really something to behold. Let me know what you thought of “The Claw.” As for what to wear, it was low to mid 70s here on the night we saw them, but there was a breeze so it was good to bring along a light weight sweater. All ages were there and you saw people wearing just about everything. I was very comfortable in cotton crop pants, a silky cotton cap sleeved top and comfortable flats since it was quite a hike to the parking - the most people ever in attendance at the venue. Enjoy the show!

BB. Love that brand and the dress is great!

mom60 - Very cute suit and anything but old looking! I love the detailing.

So my Garnet Hill sweater obsession continues. These just arrived today and I am quite pleased with both. It’s so hot but I still like to bring a light sweater to restaurants and malls and grocery stores. Got them in the Orchid Dot and the Tea Roses since they were on sale.

Sewhappy, I can see why you are so obsessed with these cardigans. “Seascape - no longer available” :(

lol, Bunsen, I tried for for your Lafayette dress . . .

Target had some nice similar cardigans when I was there recently, I thought of you sewhappy!

My goodness, bunsen, you must have a closet full of dresses - it seems like you’re buying a few every week! There are worse vices, by the way. The cardigans are great, and no matter how hot the weather, it is still a good idea to carry one, especially because most indoor spaces are so cold.

OMG! A very nice friend stopped by tonight with some old estate jewelry and had a beautiful necklace and earrings for me to wearto D1’s wedding. Gorgeous diamonds!!! Perfect for my dress!!! I am in awe! :)

Congratulations, you have completed your outfit.

:) I am thrilled!

Gourmetmom, yes, I’ve been doing some serious shopping lately. After losing close to 30 pounds, I cleared the clothes that no longer fit out of my closet, so I have plenty of room for more dresses! I ended up returning two of my recent buys (the LK Bennett dress which turned out to be too red, and the lovely Boss dress, which, unlike my Bashina shirts, was made of non-washable fabric), so I’m well set with 4 lovely dresses. And you are absolutely right, there are worse vices, like shoes. (BTW, thank you so much for recommending the Ferragamo shoes - I look for every excuse to wear them, because they are unbelievably comfortable.)

NMinn - awesome news! It looks like you are all set!

ooh, MN, how awesome!

Congrats to you, Bunsen, from a lifelong Weight Watchers member. 30 pounds is amazing!!

I think buying lovely clothes is the best inoculation against putting back the pounds.

And non-internet shopping (as in malls and department stores) is pretty good exercise. So is trying on clothes. All just part of the maintenance regimen!
