Cjane, I’m no expert on dressing for body shapes, still evolving on figuring out my own style. But it sounds as if you’re built a bit like Liza Minnelli or Barbra Streisand (do you by any chance sing?). Both of these women have gorgeous legs and more compressed torsos. I’ve noticed through the years that they do best when they go with shorter tops in order to really capitalize on the wonderful length of their legs. Like all of us, they’ve had their awkward fashion moments but I think the gist of their own journey is that rather than trying to disguise your less strong features, focus on really highlighting what is wonderful about you. Great legs at our age are a terrific asset. I don’t think I’d go with the longish tunics that are going to obscure those legs. Also, the skirt shape of late seems to be really high-waisted. Would that look work on you, with the belt several inches above your middle? My DD also has super long legs and she looks great in that style while I don’t – I am more long waisted.

CJane - Yay! Vicarious shopping! My favorite kind. Also, take a look at Liberty London Girl’s blog - she’s a fashion sort who has a body sort of like yours as I understand it. She goes for dresses and boots.

I like that dress a lot. 3 Dots is a brand like James Perse, known for casual, but starting to use casual fabrics for more elegant pieces. And EK, Tabitha at Bourbon and Pearls is a total hoot!

Well, if it has Alumother’s blessing, it’s a go. Order has been placed. I will let you all know what it looks like when it gets here.
We will need to discuss shoe and jewelry options if it fits.

Big fan of Three Dots here. I just bought a jersey skirt and love their tops. I think that dress is fantastic, Cjane.

I also just spied this in the Garnet Hill fall catalog – a top and a skirt by Eileen Fisher that have that sort of Barbra Streisand vibe I was rambling on about this morning:

Navy blazers seem to be in short supply this time of the year… I would try Theory, Alice and Olivia, and Elizabeth and James displays at big department stores.

A question: would you wear any necklace with this top? If so, what kind?

I agree that a short, chunky, or multiple strand necklace would look nice. Depending on the skirt or slacks worn with the top, I’d opt for a necklace in a warm, dark gray silvery tone.

It looks a little shorter than the one you linked to, but I’m kind of small and the “shrunken” look actually works better for my proportions.

I’ve come to the sad conclusion that many of my favorite looks: rolled up boyfriend jeans, long drapey cardigans, etc. just make me look like a little kid in my big brother’s clothes.

Thank you, CC friends! I’m a bit jewelry-challeneged and it is great to have such wonderful help. I like the Chico’s costume “bling” in mathmom’s links (Chico’s clothes - not so much).

This RL jacket is not a one-button style, but I like how it looks:
