Dressing Young (Part 1)

Can’t find any links but I have been very happy with DKNY blazers, both bought at deep discount at Nordy’s. They just fit really well.

For some reason, I have never been comfortable in a navy blazer. I always feel too naval in them. I love the one Kate is wearing in the picture though.

I saw a gorgeous black blazer at Talbot’s today and it was 25% off $198. I almost got it, but it is a little heavy for our Sept/Oct and I need a job interview jacket. We were wearing shorts and jeans to work, so I need to get a few things so I look like a real lawyer. I got a decent black blazer at Gap instead for $53 after 40% off and a $10 reward card which will get me through the next couple of months.
I love navy blazers and have a good JCrew one.

BB - I believe Ms. Middleton has been known to wear Reiss:).
Mousegray - That’s adorable. Especially on a small person.

MOfWC, that is a great price for a blazer! If you need dress shirts or “shell” tops, check NR - there should be a ton of them that got discounted even further!

Alumother, good to know! I was not sure if the website was legit or not because i just happened to stumble upon it while doing a web search, but after some checking it looks like it is the official website of the brand.

I pulled the trigger yesterday and bought the top (picked it up at a local store). Love it! It is silk/synthetic blend, and I already washed it despite the label saying “dry lcean only”. I hung it, and it was dry in less than one hour. Now off to scout Labor Day sales for chunky, silvery necklaces!

Thanks to this thread (which I recently spent DAYS reading), and a small weight loss, I’ve decided to do something about my pathetic wardrobe which y’all made me realize that I am a candidate for “What NOT to Wear” or one of those magazine photos with the eyes blacked out to protect the identity of the guilty.

Problem feet (bunions & narrow heels) has me wearing only one pair of Danskos constantly. I can’t even find a second pair of Danskos to fit quite right! Last night, I bit the bullet and ordered (gulp!!!) over $800 worth of shoes from Zappos, with only two pairs in the same style.

Another problem just a major has been pants. I keep going back to my Lands End pleated front slacks for work because I haven’t found anything to replace them. I am very long-waisted with short, heavy legs so low cut pants make my thighs look bigger and my short legs even shorter. Any higher cut pants gap pretty badly at the top, i.e., the waistband sticks out. I think this is because I curve in for my waist lower than most people. Finally, after trying on hundreds (okay, dozens) of pairs of pants over the years, I finally found a pair that fit yesterday!!! They were at Kohl’s of all places, in a brand that seems to be exclusive to Kohl’s. It is amazing how well-fitting pants in a flattering cut can drop off five pounds in one’s appearance! I hope these pants will be sold in stone/khaki/tan later in the year.

Yay, CCsiteObsessed! I’m very glad that you found a pair of pants that fit great and make you feel like a million bucks! Rember, it is OK to hoard flattering pants! ;)

OKay, Seattle, BB has a problem. September 8 is *Fashion Night Out *hosted by local retailers. Where should I hang out? Downtown? Belsquare? The Bravern? So many choices! So little time. And no money. :)

I would go downtown- but if I remember right you are on the Eastside, if I still lived over there I think I would just go to Bsquare.

( I admit I have never heard of Fashion night out- but then I am part of the crowd who looks like they are from Seattle no matter where they are. - however- I did find this fashion blog I wanted to pass along- [Style Advice for Fashion Lovers | YouLookFab](http://youlookfab.com/) especially for the dressing for your body type advice. I haven’t read all of it just the " adorable apple" tips as I have a constant battle to find my waist & her advice is spot on & great to have it all in one place)

Tory Burch had a Labor Day sale. Hehe.

Uh-oh. Alumother, is there more to your story? We are all eyes and ears. :)

EK, that is a cool site. Bookmark-worthy. I think I developed a plan for FNO events: I will hit NR in the morning in hopes that they might have the cardigan I missed during the recent Nordy’s sale, check what the downtown stores will have to offer after work, then head to the Bravern to watch scarf-tying demos at Hermes and scout the shops for free food. ;)

CCsiteObsessed – I have also struggled to break free of my Dansko dependency. I think too many years in toe shoes as a kid has left my feet in a permanent state of PTS. Anyway, one brand that does work well for me on my brave sans Dankso days is the Cole haan nike air line of shoes. There are a gazillion on Zappos and they have worked really well for me. Still not Danskos in terms of giving me happy feet. But I can walk in them comfortably and not feel traumatized.

And, hey, Kohl’s hits the sweet spot for me sometimes. So does Target.

I was eyeing the Cole Haan nike air line the other day and was going to ask if anyone has ever worn them. I’ve been researching reasonably comfortable heels and these seem to always make the list. I might just take the plunge. SewHappy - do they run true to size?

Ahhhh, the Cole Haan Air Maddies look so comfortable; sadly my size is out. Maybe I will try a narrower size since there is nothing to squish my bunion. That order will have to wait until I receive my Zappos order and return SOMETHING. I am so relieved my mail carrier changed years ago. He gave me such a bad time the last time I order a $h–load of shoes – called me Imelda! (He is Pinoy–Pilipino.)

If I ever return to wearing suits and pumps as I did in the '80s, Cole Haan will definitely be at the top of my list. However, workplaces have become so much more casual, and although I like the look (and CH’s classic pumps!) I’m not sure I would ever go back. . .I remember when I used to dress professionally so that I would be taken seriously and not be mistaken for support staff. Now, I’m way too old for anyone to think that!

BB - They are having FNO festivities at the Stanford Shopping Center, but I think I will abstain. Having already, as I said, done the Labor Day sale. This dress is actually much darker, much more jewel-colored than it appears on the site. Silk jersey.

[audra dress | Tory Burch](http://www.toryburch.com/Audra-Dress/31112411,default,pd.html?dwvar_31112411_color=661&start=18&cgid=clothing-dresses-skirts)

And then, to get the 30% discount, had to get a new wallet too. Eeek.

[robinson zip continental wallet | Tory Burch](http://www.toryburch.com/Robinson-Zip-Continental-Wallet/31119007,default,pd.html?dwvar_31119007_size=OS&dwvar_31119007_color=604&start=2&cgid=accessories-wallets-wristlets)

I don’t really know what came over me, going for color. It may be related to the graying of my hair. Or temporary insanity. We cannot know.

And for bunions, try the blog Barking Dogs. Nothing but shoes for troubled feet. Great resource.

MomLive – I had to go down a size for the Cole Haan Airs. The width is pretty true but my normal size had my heels flapping around.

CCobsessed, I still have my interview shoes that I wore the year I recruited after my graduate program. I look at these shoes and wonder how I ever squeezed into them. Those pointy toes! Age has its rewards - no more pointy toes. Who on earth ever thought pointy toes made women look good in the first place?

Alumother- Love that dress. It’s fresh and classic. Enjoy!

Got these on sale at Nordstrom’s. Have them in several colors. Super comfortable.

sewhappy: I am also Dansko dependent, just bought another 2 pairs last weekend at the REI sale. Are you saying that those Cole Haan Nike Air shoes are comfortable? Is there a difference between the Nike Air shoes & the ones just labeled Air on the Cole Haan site?

Has anyone else looked at the Missoni items that will be launched at Target next week???
I have to say I am loving the wellies! The lookbook has some cute things! [Look_26sx – Fashionista: Fashion Industry News, Designers, Runway Shows, Style Advice](http://fashionista.com/2011/08/here-it-is-the-full-missoni-for-target-lookbook/look_26sx/)

Love the Missoni boots! Too bad they will be gone in a flash from our local Target.

Alumother, those are fantastic buys! Great dress. I love Tory’s easy care silk jersey fabric. Despite all warnings, it washes very well (cold water/handwash cycle!) and dries quickly on a hanger with only minimal ironing needed (or none at all). This reminds me: I have yet to try my new steamer. It has been too hot for steaming or ironing anything!

RobD,

I have had good luck with the Cole Haan Air line. These are my latest pair, which are amazingly comfortable. I really like them a lot. But, of course, everyone has different feet. For example, so many women with foot issues love Bjorn. I cannot wear Bjorn at all – agony.
