Dressing Young (Part 1)

mom60 - I’m doing cashmere research:). i.e., I’ve got one from Land’s End, and am waiting for one from Brora, and another from Pure. The Land’s End seems very serviceable. However, buy a size down. I am a 4-6 in J. Crew, and the Medium I bought from Land’s End is too big.

Best cashmere I have ever purchased has come from Neimans…thicker, no piling, last forever looking like new…and seems softer than others I have bought for less…

Neiman has lots of cashmere on sale now - online anyway - not sure about in store.

I saw a couple of Neiman that look interesting. I don’t have one nearby so I would order online. Off to look up Pure and Brora.
Edit- love the color selection at Pure. Do you know how the sizing runs?

I picked up several (okay – five, actually) cashmere sweaters at a ridiculous sale at Bloomingdales last January. They were practically giving them away. They are the Bloomie’s store brand and so far so good – holding up well.

I notice several of you are familiar with Pure. I got their catalog in the mail for the first time and really liked several items but the website seems to only offer cashmere and other woolies.

Though I live in a wonderful location it is not great for shopping.
No Bloomingdales, no Neiman Marcus, both the Nordstrom and Macy’s have limited selection.
Last year I picked up several cashmere sweaters from Nordstrom. Only Mine is the brand. The colors are good but the quality was not great. Plus I find them a bit wide but also short.
I think I will do like Alumother and have a cashmere experiment and order from several places.

mom60 - Do I remember that they are a UK company? The usual thing in that case is to order 2 sizes up. We shall see:). I ordered the v-neck in pale blue, and it was back-ordered, so I won’t have info on that for a while. The Brora is purple, that should be showing up soon. Please do tell about your cashmere research! I have bought from Neiman’s before, but have not found them to be much better over time than other in-store labels like Bloomingdale’s. J. Crew purportedly uses the Loro Piana mills. TSE is of course good, but pricey, and don’t even SAY the words Bruno and Cucinelli unless you want to take out a new mortgage.

My basic outfit in the winter is a cashmere v-neck with a ribbed tank underneath. Worn with my Dressing Young denim jeans. My D’s have upgraded my denim to Joe’s, Paige and Citizen’s for Humanity. I especially like the mid rise Citizen’s.
Alumother- yes Pure is a UK company. I want my sweaters to be a younger cut but not to be tight. For example I find I prefer J Crew over Lands End. I find in Land End I can wear a small or even extra small yet in some of the more contempory lines I find I want a medium or even a large.

The saleswoman at my local J.Crew told me that they use Loro Piana cashmere as well, but I have a hard time believing it’s the same thing. My J.Crew sweaters are okay - but they do pill and they are not particularly soft. My Loro Piana sweaters, however, are sublime - very, very soft and they last for years.

The Saks house brand cashmere is pretty good - on sale often with a great selection.

Since the beginning of my little shopping experiment, I pretty much gave up on finding a reasonably priced cashmere sweater, because almost all lower priced cashmere is made in China. I just returned from Costco… With a pile of some very, very well made, super soft cashmere:

[Italian Cashmere at Costco](http://content.costco.com/Images/Content/Misc/PDF/12WEB0241_CashmereSchedule.pdf)

I got a merino wool cardigan, a cashmere zip-neck henley, a cashmere 'boyfriend" cardigan (pictured in the ad), an argyle sweater and a cashmere blazer for hubby. All made in Italy! And all I needed was gas for the lawnmover and some detergent. :)

Apparently, according to Cramer, I got a nice deal as well:

BunsenBurner, you can find the same brand on Ebay so if you like what you found on Costco, there is another source.

cartera, I do not think the brand has an ebay store… Do you have a link? From their website, they have a store in Italy (I think) [Enzo Mantovani](http://enzomantovani.com/) and not sure where else.

I’m wrong. I remembered the brand from having seen some of the items on Ebay before, but they do not have a store. These must have just been individual items.

I want soft but I do not want thick. I don’t want to be hot. It is not that cold where I live.
Rats! My Costco is not on the cashmere road show list. I did see a zipped hoodie cashmere but I am really looking for pullover V neck.
I will look at Saks.

I have two of the cashmere zipped hoodies from Costco and I love them. I wear them all the time at home because I am always freezing. Do they have those again at Costco?

Thanks for the cashmere road show tip, Bunsen. I’ll be trekking to our local Costco this week to check it out. By the way, those featherweight cashmere shawls you love from Nordstrom may be on the way out, according to a comment on the web site. They are apparently going to a cashmere-wool blend for that item in future. I ordered one of the cashmere ones on sale, a pretty muted red shade.

Darn…stopped by out local Costco and they didn’t have the cashmere sweaters. I assume either they haven’t gotten them yet or they may not carry them as there’s not a lot of need for cashmere in the south.

momlive- I noted that in our state- there are only two costcos which are having the special promotion.

:(
Don’t really feel like driving to Woodinville today-

Try this link; it seems more comprehensive than the first (i.e. my costco wasn’t listed on the first one, but it is on the 2nd…I’ll be stopping after work  region[/url”>http://www.enzo-mantovani.com/Enzo_Mantovani/region.html]region

Yea, we don’t get the same things I see at other Costco stores either–we have a lot more tropical & resort wear, for some reason, LOL! D in LA gets a bit more of the warmer clothing than we do.

Have seen cashmere sweaters even in HI Costco, but not yet this year.

RobD- thanks. Looks like I have to wait till 12/16 for the cashmere road show to hit my Costco.
I will still look tomorrow and see what else they might have. I think I am going to have to search out a time to head south for some shopping.
