Dressing Young (Part 1)

BB - I’m no fashionista, and I’ve never posted on this blog, but I read it religiously. I love seeing the things people are buying and wearing… better than looking thru fashion magazines…cause you are all REAL people. That dress is GORGEOUS!!! Wear it in good health and enjoy!!!

Love the dress. I like the neckline and the plunging back. Sexy, but not trashy.

What a great shirt, Mathmom! Really stunning and with great jewelry, I love it.

Oh, dear - I don’t have any holiday events where we will dress up! :frowning:
Church of course, but that doesn’t count & Christmas night buffet at my home so I probably will be wearing black slacks, white blouse, and my red & white W&S apron. Gee, I didn’t realize how boring my life had become!

Thank you, ladies! Apparently, no black is just a cultural thing. There will be lots, lots of bling at the event. You guys are so right about the strapless looks being bridesmaidish. I have to note that there was not a strapless dress to be found at the KM store: halter, one shoulder, draped - you name it, but no strapless numbers. KM is a Euro-fashion oriented designer, so there is hope that maybe the strapless look will be fading away soon.

As far as shoes… I have a pair of Jimmy Choos I scored on super sale at a small shoe boutique, and I can actually walk in them. They are cream/nude colored with mesh inserts. If I can find a picture, I’ll post a link. The shoes will semi-match my dangly, blingy Alexis Bittar earrings (my recent super buy at NR).

mathmon - looove the shirt. Perfect piece for festive holiday events.

Bunsen, I think you should get a small tasteful tatoo on your back just for that dress! (Just kidding)

I haven’t been to a wedding long time & my maid of honor was my sister ( who is LDS) & I allowed her to choose & make her own dress. She chose a long sleeve version. ( I didn’t have bridesmaids as we had a very small wedding & were putting it on ourselves- it was easier to just have a moh)

I also can’t wear backless things- have to have a bra & the low waisted ones bug me. ( But I do like dresses that have built in support- however they are too casual for a wedding!)

twhere I have work showing next weekend I’ll probably wear this shirt
Congrats mathmom, that sounds fun!

Well I don’t exactly have great jewelry. I’ll be picking from one of these: [Flickr: mathmom5’s Photostream](mathmom5 | Flickr)

The most likely are the copper which looks good with everything and is a good length, or the one my younger son made which always makes me feel nostalgic. I’ll probably wear origami earrings like the ones here. But I am completely open to suggestions. I might even find something good at the art gallery, but usually I hint madly for that stuff and have to wait till Christmas to get it.

I love the copper necklace, but with the shirt I think I like the beaded one better. How long is it?

I am very lucky to have lots of great jewelry. I have some very good pieces as well as some nice costume jewelry. My hair stylist sold pieces in her shop and I was always able to find something fun and funky. I have recently organized my jewelry by buying these great trays at TJMaxx. C’mon over to Amish Country and we will get you all fixed up!

If you are talking about the one with the green hanging beads it’s pretty short. I think it would be a good length.

Sorry to interrupt our jewelry discussion… Remember the Costco cashmere road show? Some of the pieces are now on Costco’s website:

[Costco - Italian cashmere 21 results.](http://www.costco.com/Common/Search.aspx?search=Cashmere1123&&ViewAll=999&ec=1&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=Cashmere1123&Ntt=Cashmere1123&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=)

Stuff sold on Costco dot com can be returned to their warehouses for a full refund of the paid price, which includes S&H.

I love the dress, BB. Y’all are finding some great things! BB- I think for shoes you should go with Vibram Five Fingers! :)

mathmom, that shirt is only $34 now, with free shipping! I just ordered it in two colors. Thanks for posting it.

I love the dress, BB. I don’t think it is bridesmaidy because you won’t be doing matchy-matchy with anyone else.

Mathmom- I really like the “red necklace”. I haven’t followed the part of what you are contemplating wearing, so not a recommendation on what to pair it with – just, I really like the red necklace :)

I have been playing with my jewelry lately. I have a very large, modern set opal pendant on a chain I don’t like. But with gold prices what they are haven’t felt like investing in a new one. So… bought a whole bunch of necklaces at, wait for it, Forever 21 and have had really good success wearing the piece on shorter and longer lengths, and layering it with other necklaces. Clearly this isn’t a long term proposition since the $5 chains will probably start to look bad, but mean time it is giving me a good idea on how to wear this piece and what kind of chain would be most useful.

Also wore my new leather pencil skirt today, purchased on sale at Nordy’s in a size I wasn’t able to wear a few months ago, so feeling pretty spiffy these days ;)

CJane, leather skirts are awesome, and leather skirts on sale rock  Did you get the Lafayette or the Classiques one? Many thanks for the Karen Millen sale tip! I took advantage of the 30% off discount at the last minute.

MOfWC, it is too bad that I do not have Vibrams, but I’m serously thinking about bringing my Brooks PureWhatever runners with me for the drive back home. With their bright neon colors, they are quite a fashion statement . :)

Mathmom, I like the contents of your jewelry (photo) case! I vote for the green hanging beads.

Does anyone else think the J Crew city fit cords are sized differently this year? They just aren’t as soft and comfy. Maybe a few washings?

BB, it’s the Lafayette skirt, but I paid less than what they are showing as 50% off, so now I am even happier with it :)

Glad the KM worked out for you!

Bought a beautiful Kate Spade bag from TJ Maxx today! Got it for $150 (originally $375!). I am madly in love with it, and it is a great personal Christmas present, ha ha. I haven’t had good luck at TJ Maxx in ages, so this was exciting…

Went to NR today to try on premium denims. Yuck! I may as well have shown a spotlight on my thighs. I’m 5’1" with chunky VERY short legs and super long trunk, so anything flared started too low. Not a flattering look. At some point, I hope to visit the Levi’s store; hopefully their selection is representative of their many mid-rise styles online.

BB: love the dress, especially the color. Mathmom: you’ll look great in that red blouse!

My 17 yr old got me to buy a sheer silk top yesterday at Macy’s. It is a taupe grey and a loose fitting. What do I wear under it? I D said a lace bra! Definitely not happening. The neckline is low and it is a racer back with low cut armholes. I could not find a picture online

this is not it but it is similar but the one I bought has the sequin going up and down at the bottom half of the blouse. Mine also has deeper arm openings
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/clover-canyon-twin-print-sheer-tank/3230087</a>
adding another link, mine has arm openings like this one.

Gosh, Mom60. From your textual description I was sort of braced for a racer chick shirt but I think those are absolutely lovely. If you like your arms then wear them on a tropical vacation with bare arms and maybe a cami? If you’re not so big on your arms then I’d think a nice tee in a slubby super thin fabric and muted color?

Such pretty tops in those pics. I know with my DD she would probably end up with it. Maybe you can share?
