Anyone have suggestions for jeans/slacks that are slim through the hips and legs (in a plus size)? I am a Big Bird shape and most pants look terrible on me – they are all 4-6" too big in the hips and it carries all the way down.

I am never going to have a waistline (I’ve been waiting since I was 11 to get one), so I figure I should play to my strengths, such as they are. :)

sewhappy- you think like my D. She was the one who brought it in the dressing room. She said if I bought it for me she could borrow it.
It is funny how she is now big on sharing clothes. I am sure she figures more for her since once something ends up in her closet it rarely makes it back to mine.
Also since I live in Ca I think if I keep it I will wear it to a all female holiday party.I bought a black slinky Jockey camisole at macys today so will see how that looks underneath. My D thinks I should wear it with my designer “Dressing Young” jeans with the boots I bought earlier in this thread. The crowd at this party will definitely be a “dressing young” group.

mom60 - I love those shirts! Underneath? Um, a strapless seamless bra?

CountingDown - I think you need to look for fits that don’t say curvy. Curvy always means waist way smaller than hips. I can’t wear those pants either.

My KM dress finally sprouted behind the planter on the front porch. It fits great. My gamble of ordering size 6 after trying on size 8 paid off.

mom60, IMO a tube-top with a built-in shelf bra would work great under those flowy tops. In colder weather, top #2 can be worn over a long sleeve skinny tee. I do not think it will last long in your closet if your teen is eyeing it.

Counting Down: I remember one episode of What Not to Wear featuring a lady who could never find pants that fit her not so standard body. Clinton’s advice: get the pants that fit in the widest part and alter them. Hey, maybe we can nominate you for one of the WNTW episodes?!

^^wow - I love this - how are you going to do your hair? If I could ever figure out how to post on your blog I would tell you I love your growing out hair :)

BB: I love your “wedding dress” - beautiful. I also come from a no-black-at-weddings culture = deep south. It is pretty much physically impossible for me to wear black to a wedding even though it is completely acceptable these days. I also can’t wear white to a wedding. So I always have just one dress in my closet that is not black or white that I wear to weddings. The dress you chose is beautiful. I am also interested in what shoes you are wearing, but have to look back and see if you said?

edit: nude Jimmy Choos - of course! perfect!

edit 2: mathmom - love the jewelry - love love love the jewelry especially the fact it is unique

alh, glad you like it! I’ve got very little traditional jewelry and really very few occasions in my life that call for it. (Dh’s grad students’ weddings is all I can think of.)

Counting Down: I would try Talbots. I’m pretty sure they carry plus size or women’s size they may call it- they have several different fits/styles. I would go into the store ( if you live near one )and have someone help you to determine what is the best fit for you.

mom60 - I like the idea of an all female holiday party. Good setting to try out the new top.

CountingDown - it sounds as if maybe the “boyfriend” jean might work for you. My waist does not indent very much, I’m sort of a straight build hip to shoulder. I really like these boyfriend jeans from Garnet Hill. Sometimes I roll them with Dansko’s and colorful socks. Or not rolled they are nice and long. They sit lowish and are fairly slim through the hips and thighs.

Lately this dress has been my everyday look, with black petticoats and ankle boots. This is what I am wearing when my girlfriends have on their cute jeans and we go out together.

I didn’t get the dress at that store but it seems like an interesting store.

nice When you wear the RL boots - are you tucking your pants in? or are they out?

Recently, while shopping, I sat down in the shoe dept just to have a place to return a phone call and a 50ish looking woman came and sat down next to me and started a conversation on the pants, tucked or not tucked, subject. Since I don’t really wear jeans/pants, I had no advice to give. She was thin. She had dark jeans and top, so a long line. She looked good either way to me.

edit: probably you all already discussed tucked/untucked pages and pages ago but it’s a lot to read through.

edit: mathmom - what are you showing at the gallery??

Alh, are you Diane Keaton IRL ? I love irony in fashion. Takes real flair to pull off. What do you wear on your legs with the dress and boots? So, so cute and cool.

Mathmom - we are quite similar in our everyday “look”. I like jeans or cords, comfortable baked potato shoes and quality sweaters and jackets. Really like that Gallway jacket, btw.

Here’s my look as of winter 2011:

Boyfriend jeans from GH or cords from J Crew

This belt ordered from Sundance that DD keeps “borrowing” –

Either bloomingdale’s cashmere turtleneck bought cheap on sale in a much larger size than I normally wear (like 'em loose) or this new “tissue tee” from J Crew also sized up so it fits me nice and big:

My D who is a teacher loves her Danskos, I predict Danskos will be adopted by hipsters every where as they age and their feet get tired from wearing Converse with no arch support.

sw - my petticoats come to the tops of the boots, so my legs really don’t show. I wear black trouser socks. I used to wear fancy socks but plain black socks are my concession to aging gracefully I used to wear bloomers but I decided they were too young. I might still wear the bloomers at the beach. I don’t know if you can dress too young at the beach or on a tropical vacation ;)

edit: fancy socks with jeans can never be “too young” imho. fancy socks with all I have going on is another story lol

edit 2: you are really making me miss my fancy socks…

The painting I am showing at the art gallery is the second from the top on the left of the H [url=http://mamaroneckartistsguild.org/]Mamaroneck Artists Guild Home Page/url

alh, I can’t decide about how to wear boots with pants. Usually I don’t tuck the pants in, but then you can’t really tell I’m wearing boots, but if I leave them out I feel like I am wearing jodhpurs.

Sewhappy, I could wear that outfit. :)

I like silly socks too, though I don’t have as many as I used to.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am going to have fun shopping! Went out today and am approaching sizes I haven’t worn since pregnant with S2. Don’t know why this time the dieting is working (esp since I am not doing anything dramatic), but I will take it!

I took a pair of Coldwater Creek pants I just bought and ripped out the top stitching last night. Happily, they are not flatfell seams. I am going to have to take in 3-4 inches in width on each leg starting from 3" below the waistband. I can do this on some pants, but not others.

BB, WNTW would have a field day with me. I am way too covered up for their liking. ;)

mathmom, did you make the jewelry or did S2?

Someone on a hockey thread mentioned pinterest the other day and after wasting half a morning gathering all kinds of cool ideas, I could see how this would be really useful here!

One of the origami earrings I made, he made the other. He made the chunky necklace in elementary school. The rest of the stuff I’ve bought mostly at local galleries.
