mathmom: I wish I lived close enough to go to your show.

I love reading this thread - so much more helpful than a magazine, showing $350 T shirts and other unrealistic items :)

But I noticed that immediately after reading the last few posts, the ad on the left side of the page started showing both the belt someone mentioned/linked and the sleeveless top someone else linked to.

I realize that my clicking on the link somehow affected this, but it was kind of creepy.

The Google ad engine targets you with ads based on your previous browsing. If you clean the cookies and browsing history, the ads will go away. :)

Or just use Firefox and Adblock. No ads anywhere!

Before I started using Adblock, I hated those ads - especially the ones with the bugs crawling over the screen when we discussed bed bugs.

If you’re on an apple, unenable javascript and there will be no ads, and your computer will work better all around.

parent: how do you unenable javascript?

I do not mind ads on CC (other than the roaches!). Sometimes I click on an ad or two, to support CC. Neiman’s ads are fun! There are quite a few objects pictured in them that I would never oherwise look at, like a $5,000 Erdem dress. :)

I use Firefox, but I still get the google ads over in the sidebar and I see all the stuff from this thread when I play Scrabble on Facebook. It’s actually kind of interesting in a creepy way. I realize I could turn it off, but I don’t mind ads as long as they aren’t animated.

Costco is carrying colorful smartwool socks.

So I need to put together another holiday look. Two “open houses” coming up in the afternoon. No overlap in social spheres so I could wear the same outfit to both. Am in a dress/skirt mode lately and would like to avoid pants, I think.

Have this notion of a slim fitting wool jumper and boots, maybe in a plaid. I rarely wear boots but could borrow my DD’s nice brown Frye’s. I want the jumper to have big patch pockets. Maybe I should make it myself! Finally got the old sewing machine set up after our move . . .

alh - not quite that dress, but not dissimilar. I’ll put up a photo on my blog after I’ve worn it in Hawaii:). And for my daily looks? Since I’ve entered that odd universe of self-posted outfit blogging, you guys can see my efforts directly.

Not a clothing post, but I need some opinions from “stylish” women (or men, for that matter). I have a fairly traditional room. Are pinch pleat drapes still in style or can I go with something else?

toledo: I think you can go with something else. The question is - Do you want pinch pleats? :)

sewhappy: That is a nice and classic holiday look. A hand created one of a kind garment is the ultimate in my opinion
Are you thinking a turtle neck underneath? or bare?

If you do the plaid the pockets become complicated. I don’t think they would look really great with the plaid matched and if you turn the plaid it may get real busy. I like the pockets on a solid color jumper. I like charcoal or black best but that is just a personal quirk. Charcoal with a black turtleneck and black boots. If you wear your skirts above the knee, very subtle black patterned tights. :)

alummother: I will wait for the photos. I want to see how you will wear your hair with that dress. I vote either (a) runway messy like in a recent Vogue article or (b) intricate updo maybe with some hair ornaments. :)

edit: I like to give advice and opinions about dress/decorating. I understand that my advice may not be the best advice
But I just want to play anyway. :)

edit 2: SW: if the brown Frye boots are the starting point … I would not do a black or charcoal jumper. Do they still offer pendleton wool in fabric stores?

No, I really don’t care for pinch pleats, but most of the other styles, like grommet or tab-tops, may be too contemporary. Any other suggestions?

I think you need to start an analogous thread on home decorating!! Look how many posts this got, I think a decorating thread would be equally as useful :)

I dislike pinch pleats, I think you can do what you like.

How about something like this? [Clara Drape | Pottery Barn](http://www.potterybarn.com/products/clara-printed-drape/?pkey=call-window-coverings&cm_src=ideas)

Oh, mathmom, I do like that style. It looks like it’s called “pole pockets with ring-top conversion”. Now I hope I can find some ready-mades in a quality fabric. I’ll start with Pottery Barn. Thanks.

toledo: too contemporary? Please tell us about your house style so we can judge
I have an old house and no pinch pleats.

alh,

I like your insight on the pockets on plaid dilemma. This is what I’m going for and in truth if I could comfortably go spend this much on a dress right now I just might – it’s not a jumper, but has the feel of what I’m looking for:

We had a thread for home decor going but it ran out of steam. I’m done with several rooms in our house and on to new ones so I always interested in the topic. I really like traditional drapes so long as they are in the spirit of the room – work best I think if there is a mid-century vibe.

I like the muted plaid. I think you can get this look making a jumper (assuming the fabric is available) if you don’t want to spend that much money. I think a one of a kind piece is more special :)
