Dressing Young (Part 1)

lol, the pink was chosen by my DH who almost never offers an opinion on this stuff. He really likes the pink. He also insisted we keep the tulip sink. His mom is Rome. That’s my explanation for his occasional strange bursts of weird decorating taste.

I have decided the overall vibe is . . . rococo.

I’ve been contemplating the brown and black question. i always like it when I see it on others, but not sure I’d wear brown boots/tights with a black skirt.

Curious about Alumother’s comment (#5354) about grounding the outfit with black boots to match the skirt (which was black). Would you also wear black tights? --brown t-neck, black skirt, black tights, black boots? Not sure what you mean by ‘grounding’. I actually put on an outfit similar to the example given this afternoon. Again, I liked it but not sure I could pull it off. Is it, as the OP suggested, about confidence?

^^^
Yes, I’d wear black tights too, but probably not opaque. Some texture or pattern even. Once you get used to it, brown and black takes way less confidence than a lot of other style choices:).

Rolled up white towels on some of those shelves might be good. I like the idea of a collection - little vases, small pictures, shells could all work. But it could be something weird like clocks, hotel shampoo, or bath toys. Or maybe mysterious white boxes: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/bathroom/look-organized-open-shelves-in-the-bathroom-079892</a> I love this one: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/bathroom/open-shelves-in-a-bathrooms-for-art-collections-097401</a></p>

Mathmom, those shelving ideas are very helpful. Thank you. I love especially the starfish against the aquatic green walls in the second link.

You know, I think the suggestion to lose the pink walls above the chair rail is a good one. I will gently suggest to DH. I think more of a bronze/copper might work better with the colors in the sink. Then I’d have a lot more leeway on the palette for what goes on the shelves.

Here’s the crazy sink –

[Kohler K-14173 Artist Editions 25" Self Rimming Bathroom Sink with Fables & Flowers Design](Kohler K-14173-0 White Artist Editions 22" Drop In Bathroom Sink with Overflow - Faucet.com)

sewhappy, you should lose the pink. I personally would like to see some very light green or simple beige with that sink. Unless the bathroom has good natural lighting, I would stick to lighter colors - dark colors in small spaces make the space look much smaller and univiting. You can add darker objects such as towels, accent pieces, soap dispensers, etc.

Sage green

Yes, wnp, that would be a great color to go with the sink! And for the shelves… I would add some gardening-themed accent pieces.

There is quite a lot of sage green in a the kitchen and glassed porch near this powder room – I like sage green but am not sure I want to extend it into the guest bath.

The gardening implements are a great idea, Bunsen. Would work with the tulips.

Here is the pink that is above the white chair rail with white-on-white picture framing below (large expanse of counter surrounds sink in dark green marble with swirls of gray):

Ohhhhh, I love that sink!!!
But I sense that you are not very fond of it…but since no matter what you do, you’re not gonna hide it, I’d go all white…the green counter top picks up the green in the sink, I’d probably use some colored glass (other colors in the sink on those shelves).

Alwaysinterested, my emotions toward the tulip sink are evolving. It was hideous with the old scarlet red walls and gold metallic ceiling! The shelves were also gold metallic. Yeah. This was the third wife who neighbors said was quite “creative”.

Anyway, my DH will not be parted with that sink.

We did paint the shelves white to match the chair rail and picture framing. That part has turned out well. Just a little daunted by so many shelves to fill. It occurred to me that I could hire a carpenter to put doors (even glass doors) on some of the shelves.

What would you say to this as a small rug on the hardwood:

I’m also thinking that there must be some sort of fern/plant that could do well in a bathroom with no window ( do you have fluorescent light?).
Many tropical plants are jungle plants & even though we think of the tropics as sunny, jungles are dark.

Bunsen,

These made me think of you. I think you need these for your tree.

Alas, Bunsen, the coat of my dreams was one by Cinzia Due. I carefully watched it on Bloomies site, and then one day - POOF - it was gone. I would have looked spectacular in that coat, but it just was not my destiny.

I haven’t posted here before, but enjoy reading all the sage fashion advice :)

Now I need some help … going to H’s black-tie office holiday party. Have a cute, silver dress (just above the knee) and open toe silver pumps. What should I wear on my legs? Anything? I have looked for some sort of sheer silver/grey hose, but no luck so far. It will be pretty cold to have nothing on my legs and they’re looking sort of pale and wintry :(

Thoughts?

Runners, I think nude colored hose. I think going metallic would be too much silver with the shoes, too. I’m thinking something like this . . .

[Anne Klein Dress Jacquard Shimmer Dress - Dresses - Apparel - Contemporary - Bloomingdale’s](http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/anne-klein-dress-jacquard-shimmer-dress?ID=560161&CategoryID=21683&LinkType=#fn=DRESS_STYLE_M%3DMetallic%26spp%3D16%26ppp%3D96%26sp%3D2%26rid%3D61)

Oh geez now I have sparkly dress lust!

Thanks sewhappy - you don’t think that I’ll look like an old fuddy-duddy in nude pantyhose? I worry that they may be too passe? But I’m just not sure what a good alternative is?

Kate Middleton has inspired the return of nude hose. I recommend Donna Karan’s.:)
