Dressing Young (Part 1)

Runners2, some sheer black stockings might work, depending on the shoes. And the dress, of course. Does the dress have a belt or tie? You could switch it to a black belt. Or wear a black wrap.

I agree with alumother - if you have to wear hose, the Donna Karan Nude collection is excellent. I have worn them once or twice when I had to be outdoors in a dress in very cold weather and boots or black tights were not appropriate. People won’t be able to tell you are wearing hose unless they come up and pinch your leg!

As an alternative to the pale and wintry look, you can also just do a good tanning lotion or spray, but of course that doesn’t keep you any warmer. In a crowded room, you may not feel as cold as you think, though.

Ditto Donna Karan “The Nudes” Nordstrom has them.

Thanks everyone - sounds like Donna Karan “The Nudes” it is - I’ll go on a search tomorrow :)

Sewhappy,
Back to the sink. My house painter just did a room in BM, HC-1, castleton mist. pale green. She describes it as zen-like. She’d like to do my bedroom in that, so I am looking for curtain fabric.

Re: dressing young- just * how * are the young dressing these days?
My younger daughter requested this dress for xmas- and my first response was " what?". My 2nd response was * hell- no*.

She could probably get away with it as she is tall and lanky, but to me it looks trashy. ( & wouldn’t she freeze?) Oh darn- they are out of her size.
I told her I was going to buy her a pair of jeans she wanted.

I never thought I would wish for the days when she wore the same thing every day for a year.

bookworm,

What a luscious color! I love it. I think it could work in my powder room, actually.

Hmmm . . . I went thru a long phase when I was really into curtains and drapes and now with this new house I’m into minimalist window treatments - shades that tuck up into cornices that look like the molding. I think that’s because I really like the windows of this house. They are pretty in their own right and the views are pleasant.

Anyway, in a bedroom I would probably layer treatments – either sheers plus a drape or a shade beneath a drape. With that terrific color you could go very contemporary or more traditional. I notice BM pairs it with some deeper colors. You could use a woven shade in a natural wood tone and it would be pretty.

That color also says damask to me for some reason.

Let us know what you settle on.

Should we start a “Decorating Young” thread?

Is that castleton mist a tannish color? It doesn’t look green on my monitor…

sewhappy, this is really close to the color of my powder room:

The room’s theme is “forest ferns and leaves”. It was my “while you were out project” when DH was out of the country on a business trip. I added a chair rail (all by myself - yay!), painted the walls and got new towels with emboidered ferns.

hmmm,
Castleton mist is definitely green family, and definitely not a tan. I don’t know why it came up different

Veranda View looks lovely for a powder room, Bunsen. Fresh and clean feeling.

I see the Castleton Mist as warm but with some citrus - not quite green, not quite gold. That’s what’s cool about it.

Furniture for living room and family room came today. Two chairs arrived in wrong upholstery but it’s all good because I’m re-thinking the space.

So far so good, I think. And 100 percent made in USA.

emerald: I love that the website is called NastyGirl. I sort of knew what was coming before going to the link. It looks more like a tunic for over leggings than a dress.

emerald – I have a niece into clothes from that site. She is a pretty girl in her early twenties and enjoying her life right now. She has my blessing.

My DD who is 17 otoh wants to dress like Candice Bergen in The Group. Every day she wears plaid or hounds tooth skirts, cashmere cardigans, nice flats or dresses to school. She is in a little crowd of girls who are quite the preps. I actually complained to her that she never wears jeans! It weirds me out.

sewhappy,
I got a sample can made at Home Depot today of the C Mint; its a pale pistachio. With the yellow in it, its definitely more “up” than a sage. Wish I could ship to you.

sewhappy - hahahahaha. Your daughter sounds like a kick.

Sewhappy, I trust your judgement so I went ahead and ordered the navy one shouldered dress for D.
She usually wears a lot of cashmere cardigans herself ( but with jeans) & at least the dress covers up her bits.

^^^Emeraldkity4— Check out Lord and Taylor online; they are having a 25% off sale and those Seven jeans are on their website. Plus free shipping over $99.

Everything almost is 25% off; good buys to be had.

bookworm, that sounds like an awesome color. There’s a benjamin moore store really close by and they’re good about mixing little samples. Tomorrow is my “clear” day when I get to do fun things like explore paint colors. It was really helpful to get the advice here on this thread to lose the pink in the powder room. Now I realize that pink was inhibiting me! Also, a neighbor took a look and instantly advised just removing some of the shelves so that I can put in really tall vases and bottles and stuff - even a picture.

Determined to finally conquer this powder room before year’s end.

Hope everyone is enjoying this hectic time of year. Finally stopped raining here.

Is this how everyone on this thread (except me) dresses?

I have two vintage cashmere cardigans (one black, one white, both beaded) but that is about it

I have a lot of those things (the jeans are Gap, since they fit me very well), but not the pencil skirt, leather jacket, or tank tops. I rarely wear skirts, have never thought much about leather, and use tees rather than tanks.

But I do have lots of cardigans - they provide the color to my otherwise pretty monochromatic wardrobe. I also have a whole slew of scarves, which do the same thing.
