Happy birthday, mathmom! What a lovely dress. I’m a huge sucker for wrap dresses; in fact, I treated myself to a rather rcolorful DVF wrap dress that a Nordstrom SA thoughtfully added to my pile of clothes in the dressing room. I think olive color calls for gold and copper-colored jewelry. Let me see if I can dig up somehing… Chico’s usually has some interesting, dangly necklaces…

I went to U Village today & looked at JCrew while the apple store was fixing my phone.
The only colored cords I likeD were toothpick & I am not going to have liposuction, so toothpick is out.
I do have some " matchstick" jeans, but waiting for " broomstick" or maybe " sturdy branch" styles.
Hate shopping - walked all the way over to Restoration Hardware ( with a cane & a brace it takes a while) only to find out it is just a showroom, and don’t even have the stuff that is in their catalog on display.
But at least they replaced my phone.

My actual birthday is in two weeks, but I’m up with my Mom and she wanted to get me a present now. There’s a really nice shop in her town that always has stuff I like.

^^That’s funny, ek.

I haven’t read through this thread, so this may have been talked about before…where to buy decent blue jeans, cords, etc. for ample bottoms? I’m a medium top but a 12 bottom and then have the waist taken in by a tailor…

Need good pants that fit well…I have bought “Not your Daughter’s Jeans” before, but they are sooo expensive! Any other ideas? Thanks!

chocchipcookie, do you have a Nordstrom Rack nearby? It is a good source of NYDJ for $30-50/pair.

Thanks, BB.

I have never been to Nordstrom Rack. Yes, one just opened up near me (1/2 hour away or so) recently. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll go check it out!

Do you or anyone else have suggestions for other brands/stores that have good selection for the “ahem” mature body? Thanks!

Maybe Eddie Bauer?

emeraldkity- did J crew have Cords in the other fits in the store? Online it appears the cords come in matchstick and boot cut as well. I am thinking I want to get a pair of pants for my China trip. My pants collection consists of jeans, yoga pants, one pair of white jeans and a few pairs of linen pants. I don’t think aside from jeans any of the rest are going to be good for travel.

Both the J Crew stores I was at in Virginia over the weekend had cords in matchstick and bootcut, available in several great seasonal colors. It was very difficult to resist. Every time I glance at the burnished terracotta the more fun it looks. sigh!

I ditto the Munro shoes. I have also found some Dansko heels that look like boots when worn with jeans. [The Dansko Riki from the Rio collection.](http://www.dansko.com/Womens/Footwear/Collections/Rio/Riki/Brown%20Full%20Grain/)

I love the olive wrap dress. What’s great is that it IS something you can either dress up or down. You could do as BB suggests and try some fun copper pieces or pick up some fun inexpensive colored pieces for a more casual look. I was always one to stick to “good” jewelry, but now I throw in costume pieces to stretch my wardrobe.

I bought another pair of skinny jeans at the Limited. They are in a maroon sort of color. I have had a lot of compliments on my mustard pair -so I thought I might as well get another. They were having a 40% off sale, plus I had a $25 coupon and there was an additional 10% for charge customers. Final cost was $26 down from $79. So if the colored trend is out next year - no great loss.

I am soooo ready for cooler weather - although I HATE to give up my sandals.

Thanks, I’ll look into Eddie Bauer too, but not if I have to order them on-line. Pants are the only item I must try on in a store since they all vary so much in size… and so do I!
I have size 8, 10 & 12 pants that all fit me! 8’s are really getting snug, truth be told. :(

I never shop at J Crew or Banana Republic. Are their styles for younger women or could I find something in there? What are matchsticks? Sounds awfully small…

chocchipcookie- It might be worth a look at J crew and Banana Republic. My friend is a similar build and she has bought pants from J Crew. Her favorite jeans for a curvy womenly bottom are from Cabi (I think that is how it is spelled). She buys them through a home selling rep. They look great on. She also has had some luck with Target on all places.
Adding- she also likes CJ by Cookie Johnson for jeans. Sometimes at Nordstrom Rack

Thanks to you too, Mom60! (Btw: not sure why I remember this, but did your D end up at UVermont or somewhere else? I remember the strangest things on cc!)

I just looked at the Eddie Bauer website and they are actually offering 25% off jeans & cords until Sept. 23 AND free shipping or returns! Never knew there were pants for curvy women until now…I’ve been having a tailor take in the waist for years! Even on new pants I’ve recently purchased. As long as they have a special for free shipping & returns, I may just try them out! $70 per jean plus 25% discount is way better than the Not Your Daughter’s Jeans…even when I’ve usually bought them on sale! Thanks, Deborah T…I’ll give them a try!

What the heck, I’ll try J Crew & Banana Republic too, next time I’m near those stores.

Chocchipcookie you have a great memory. She loved Vermont but she decided on UC Davis. The cost of bringing a horse to Vermont was the deciding factor. She says if she wasn’t bringing her horse she would have gone to Vermont.

WNP2…my D2 loves the colored skinnies at Express. She also has the maroon and mustard/gold colors. She hasn’t made the switch to fall colors yet but she has a darling J Crew cream with graphite polka dot blouse that she plans on wearing with the mustard and a little gray cardie. It looks really nice.

JCrew does have the cords in different fits- just the colors I liked the best were in the toothpick cut. I don’t think even my D wears toothpick.
I actually didn’t like the overall all selection much at my local store, but this is the early fall line, I bet by the time they bring out the " holiday" line in October there will be something more appealing.
I’m also going to take D to the designer outlet mall on the way back to her school, so perhaps I can get her advice.

chocchipcookie – I suggest looking at Ann Taylor Loft. Their “Julie” style fit of pants is made for curvy women. [Loft - LOFT Julie View All](<a href=“| Loft”>| Loft) Talbots has also recently come out with a curvy fit.

^^Thanks! I’ll look the next time I’m near one of their stores…we have a Talbots nearby, thanks for the suggestions!

I just ordered three pair of pants from Eddie Bauer earlier tonight, since they have the 25% off, plus free shipping & return for this order. Hopefully they’ll fit. If not, back to the drawing board!

A few years ago I bought a nice pair of jeans from JJill…but I don’t see that style any longer and I’m not crazy about the rest of JJill’s clothing selection…

I find that it’s really “hit or miss” with clothing…but lately I find that I don’t want to shop as much as I used to…(maybe because my size has been creeping up this last year or so!) Also, I’m getting pickier about what I do buy…and trying to really think about what I’m looking at and putting outfits together instead of just buying anything.

No politics- but wasn’t Michelle Obamas dress great. I definitely think it fit the Dressing Young definition.

She looked wonderful - that was a great dress and the fit was amazing. Looks like it was probably made for her. It does bug me though that every woman you see on TV now is wearing a sleeveless dress. On news shows especially, the men are in coats and ties and the women in sleeveless dresses. In real life, I just don’t know that many women over 50 who have the perfect arms we see on TV. I am annoyed.
