Dressing Young (Part 1)

Wait!! You’re short? Really Jym? Somehow I had pictured you as being tall.

Anyway, great outfit, Jym!

Thanks, worknprogress2. Yes, I am a shrimp.

There was an absolutely strinkingsly stunning Russian woman there who happened to be trying on a lot of the same things I was. Needless to say they looked incredible on her!! Not so much on me :(

You don’t seem like a shrimp.

Well, thanks again, but I am. Typically shop in the petite section, which is why this runway stuff rarely fits me.

Wow, jym, I pictured you as tall as a basketball player. Just kidding. You don’t sound like a shrimp! :p

jym, I’m not really tall, which is why runway short dresses designed for 5 ft 10" tall ladies hit just above the knee - perfectly work appropriate length.

I stripped my new jacket of its fancy must-have accessory and wore it today to a lunch date with Mr. B at the brewery ober this little cutie [Short-Sleeve Printed Lace-Inset Shirt | Eddie Bauer](<a href=“Page Not Found”>Page Not Found). Of course, it was so nice and sunny that we decided to sit outside, and the jacket spent the entire time curled up on the bench next to me. The denim is amazing. Appaerntly, Lucky makes jeans of the same softness - now I have to find a pair!

Lucky Jeans has an outlet in Woodbury Commons. Not a lot of bargains in this shop over Columbus Day weekend! I did buy a nylon Dooney Smith bag, it was $100 but got it home and I’m not as much in love with it as I was on Saturday!!!

jym, for the longest time I thought you were a guy. I’m so perceptive!

Anyone looked at clothes in Target lately? Awful what’s happening. The quality has seriously declined. I wanted to get one of my fav Mossimo hoodies and the cut and fabric and overall quality was completely terrible. China made, of course.

Noticed Brooks Bros is largely US made and felt good that I’ve been getting my DH his shirts there for a long, long time. And my DS does, too, now.

I am still having a boot dilemma. Need/want a pair of brown riding style boots, to wear with jeans tucked in or with skirts. I picked up these Dolce Vita boots today and I am not really familiar with that brand, but Lord & Taylor was having a good sale. The Zappos reviews are good too. They are tall and not wide at the top - I have thin legs and am tall myself, so that’s why I like them. And I don’t think this photo does the boots justice.

I was also drooling oer the Frye Melissa Button boots, which also fit nicely. They are twice as much as these, although I can justify the cost if I would get years of wear out of them, assuming they stay enough in style.

Anyone want to offer an opinion?

sewhappy, I too noticed that Target’s stuff quality goes up and then plummets. It comes and goes in cycles. A year or so ago the stuff at the local Target looked and felt decent, but the current offerings are mostly crap. I noticed the same trend with Macy’s clothes. The trendier they want to be, the faster they have to manufacture the stuff, and, as the result, the quality suffers. Of course, Brooks Bros is from a different planet, in addition to the US-made stuff, their clothes are updated classics, and the quality has been very consistent throughout the years. My little denim jacket is sewn in Mexico, and I’m OK with that. Keeps our southern neighbors employed and less likely to run across the border and cause troubles here.

Surfcity - I needed some new riding boots in a darker brown this year and for some reason everything I was trying on seemed to be very loose in the calf. I’ve never had this problem before. I ended up with this pair of Franco Sarto’s. I ordered them originally from zappos but needed a smaller size. I found them for the same price at Nordstroms.

[Franco Sarto Clint at Zappos.com](<a href=“No results for Franco sarto clint | Zappos.com”>No results for Franco sarto clint | Zappos.com)

Surfcity: The Frye boots are more current and easier to wear jeans tucked inside.

Bunsen, have long wished I looked good in BB clothes but sadly look like someone trying to look like someone she is not. But I do love their non-iron dress shirts for the guys.

I did buy a t Brooks Bros suit for me one. I wore it twice. Just not me. Don’t know what the issue is.

I like thinking about Target in cyclical terms. I hate that it is so junky right now.

sewhappy and bunsen: I am a BIG Target shopper. I have found some amazing clothes there, but you do have to look regularly. I went to a supersize Target recently to look and was also very disappointed in what was there. They had mostly teen stuff and maternity clothes and not so much for adults.

I still think their plain long-sleeved cotton T-shirts are the best (and only $10). I also have two pairs of ballet flats from Target that fit better than any of my more expensive pairs. Last winter I bought an all-cotton dark purple sweater with the flowing points longer at each side. It’s the best sweater, so comfy for travel and very on-trend. I was looking for something more like that, but nothing. I hope they come back with better clothes, perhaps in the winter?

Oh, no…

If I ever become rich and famous, I will make sure that my shoe collection is well cared for long after my death. Oops, to become rich, I should buy fewer shoes. :D

Can anyone recommend a casual boot for someone with high arches? I would love to buy some to wear with my jeans. I went to Nordie’s last year and they couldn’t find one that I could put my foot in! (except for Uggs) I am desperate this year.

North Minnesota . . .can’t help as I have flat feet :frowning: but if Nordstrom’s can’t help you I don’t know what to suggest. Their salespeople are the only ones I have found to have knowledge of their product.

I wonder if a foot specific catalog would be able to help you? Like this one:
[Women’s Shoes, Men’s Shoes, Walking Shoes, Sandals, Slippers, Socks, Support Hose, Foot Care, Orthopedic & Comfort Products :: FootSmart](<a href=“Best Women's Shoes & Men's Shoes | Affordable Prices | FootSmart - FootSmart”>Best Women's Shoes & Men's Shoes | Affordable Prices | FootSmart - FootSmart)

NorthMinnesota, I have very high arches and generally dislike wearing boots but have had pretty good luck with Clarks boots. Not as comfy as my trusty Danskos but pretty comfortable.

I have high arches and slightly narrow, bony feet. I found these really comfortable. They’re cushy and have good arch support.

NorthMinnesota, Are you talking about high boots? My Cole Haan boots ( Air Whitley without the buckle) with Nike Air technology are among the most comfortable I own - I can wear them all day and since I have the same issue as you, that is saying something!

It seems as I can’t get my foot to bend enough to move from the downward insert to the straight part. It is very depressing to not be able to wear boots! I couldn’t even fit in Columbia snow boots!
