Dressing Young (Part 1)

Emerald,

That corduroy trench is completely darling. Love it.

Lovely trench, EK! I guess the durability of corduroy greatly depends on the fabric quality. I had 2 pairs of corduroy pants that looked great even after many years of heavy wear. One was a no-name pair from a thrift store, the other had a D&G label (still have them, but they are too loose to wear).

Nowadays I can’t find any cords that IMO look good on me. I hate the scrunched look, and they all tend to stretch and wrinkle so my legs look like an elephant’s skin. Argh. The two above mentioned pairs were perfect, since they did not have said problem despite being skinny.

I’m still on the fence about the C/E jacket. I guess I need to make a trip to the local outlet mall to see what’s offered there.

BB, I wear my cords to do habitat restoration, and tangling with blackberries, so I perhaps treat them badly. :frowning:
I do have a pair of Calvin Klein cords that I bought at Costco that have held up, but my unlined barn coat from Target looks pretty ratty.
Can you believe this weather?

EK, this is the first time ever I had to water my plants in October! other than that, can’t complain about the weather :stuck_out_tongue: A denim jacket would be perfect to wear this weekend. That’s it, on Sunday I’m heading north to pay a visit to the outlets.

[Talbots - Plush Twill Jacket | Jackets | Apparel](<a href=“Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots”>Women's Clothing & Apparel | Talbots)

My sister gave me this jacket for my birthday. I like the English mustard color and it works nicely with my coloring but I’m a little unsure about what to wear with it. I’m not really opposed to color, but I might not have picked it out for myself. I’m keeping an open mind…any ‘flashes of brilliance’ from the Dressing Young crowd?

Love the color! Really nice jacket. I would wear it with dark denim jeans with a burgundy collared shirt, leopard flats, gold jewelry. I also think it would be great with khaki slim pants, and a demin shirt or navy blue shirt.

I purchased a pair of mustard jeans in the summer (the color isn’t quite as vibrant) and I love how navy looks with them. If I owned that jacket, I would think of wearing a monochromatic navy t-neck and slacks with the jacket and a great scarf with a hint of mustard or gold.

For a more casual look, a light blue chambray shirt would also look nice with dark wash trouser jeans.

I would stay away from brown because it would remind me of the old Century 21 blazers.

Oh, Deb’s right - burgundy looks great with mustard.

And I for one am not retiring my jean jacket.

I can easily say what does not go with the jacket - any solid black item. In combination with yellow it creates a bumble bee effect. If you need a solid neutral color, navy/denim or dark brown would work, IMO. A white shirt and a tweed skirt with a mix of mustard/brown/white would create a polished “work appropriate” look.

Panhandlegal - Tell us about your colors? Depending on your complexion and hair, could work with black pants and tee underneath, could work as a color block with pink and coral:).

I like that color with dark blue, burgundy, maybe charcoal if you want to go blackish for pants or skirt - or tweed. I don’t like the pants the model is wearing with it at all. I think white or cream would be fine for a top, but also the darker colors or a pattern would be fine as well. It’s pretty versatile. Almost easier to say what not to do.

Don’t look like Century Twenty One, a hot dog or a bumble bee. :)

Charcoal is a great idea. I would also think a rich plum. Or a deep brown. Yum color!

OP, here. Seasonal color analysis done years ago: Autumn.

…Auburn hair (not really red–more brownish red), brown eyes, freckles in summer, (even at 50 plus years old) now pretty tan, warm undertones…

FYI: I enjoy using scarves as a ‘splash’ of color.

Probably good to avoid looking like a bumble bee, Century 21 agent AND a hot dog! LOL

Such creativity in this group! I like the idea of dark blues, navy and burgundy, plums. Never thought of pink or coral. What about hunter green?

…tell me more!

Anyone shop at Fox’s?
I love their funky stuff. I am currently wearing this Robe Romanta ( but with no belt, not scarf, no tights) but its darling! And I love european sizing! Get to wear a size 1!

I saw your jacket in Talbot’s window today:). I think it would go well with hunter green, giving your coloring. Or a rust, or chocolate brown.

Today I wore a dark teal v-neck jersey top with my mustard pants and it looked great so I think hunter would also work.

I really like this mustard color - it is a lot more versatile than I had thought.

Wow, jym, your “Robe” is coooool.

Ohlala, I found my jacket! It is really soft and fits as if it was tailored for my body. Please disregard the fake fur collar - it is removable and already removed. As I was studying the jacket in the store trying to figure out if I can get rid of this ugly detail, the SA commented that the fake fur looked like a dead rat’s fur! Boy, she was so right - it does look like the occasional Mr B’s garage catches. The jacket is pretty much sold out in the stores: [Fur Collar Denim Jacket - Jackets - Lucky Brand Jeans](http://www.luckybrand.com/Fur-Collar-Denim-Jacket/LBW02144,default,pd.html?cgid=womensJacketsHoodies&selectedColor=460) The SA at the U-Village strore had to call another store and put one on hold for me. The SA at that other store commented that the ratty fake fur is THE TRENDIEST THING to have this fall. Wow. Who would have known?! I’m definitely not tempted to run to the mall to add a few more fake fur accessories to my fall wardrobe. (sewhappy, you should be glad that you bought your coat  )

I will get a lot of mileage out of my new jacket in the upcoming week - it is supposed to be 70 degrees and sunny! Our rainy Seattle is turning into sunny Silicon Valley :p

I guess I should have kept my fur lined jacket intact, ( it was rabbit fur though not fake), but I let the girls cut the lining out long ago so they could make a throw for their American girl dolls.

^^^Only the best for those American girls, EK! I have a couple of tween nieces who have acquired a shocking amount of AG stuff. One of my sisters builds furniture for the dolls. I have been approached about making a Texas Star quilt for an AG bed. I would go blind with all the hand sewing (the design is intricate and on an AG bed, tiny!).

I almost bought this one too, [Robe*RIKADY -](<a href=“La mode et les lunettes réinventées”>La mode et les lunettes réinventées) but bought a knit dress that was very similar. Found these shoes to go with the dress I bought yesterday http://www.dsw.com/shoe/andrew+geller+knot+pump?prodId=237306</a> (if the “red”, which is really a rust/burnt orange color, doesn’t show up , click on it 'cuz thats what I bought.
