Dressing Young (Part 1)

I find the Allbird sneaker style to be fairly roomy. I wouldn’t call the flat roomy, the two styles fit me very differently. What I like about the Rothy’s is that they don’t lose their shape and they continue to look new after lots of wears.
As I mentioned they are both really easy to return. Allbirds lets you return up to 30 days even if you have worn them.

I purchased my first kimono. Although I think they are beautiful and beautiful on others, they just weren’t my style. I went into a small boutique this week and saw one that was so outrageously beautiful I had to have it. It’s sheer with tons of embellishments all over it. Although it looks good with camis, I do find the material a bit scratchy. So I went in search of a light weight top with sleeves.

I found the perfect top to go under it and when I pulled the kimono from my bag to match, the salesgirls (probably 30ish), went crazy. Had to know where I bought it, tried it on, took a picture of the tag and we’re going to call to have it held. One just exclaimed, “I HAVE to have that”! LOL!

So My DH gets home and says, what’s that? I said a kimono, and he replies I just don’t understand what you do with it. You can wear that out with your friends! Haha! I guess I am a little bummed he didn’t love it to. Probably he’s not used to seeing me in the. This picture truly does not do it justice. It is full of multi-colored embellishments and sparkles. It’s amazing, I wish I could find another pic.

Just ordered my first pair of Rothys and am excited to get them. I ordered the flax-colored round toe. My next order will be the python pointed toe (purple). Had to join the fun with all the Rothys wearers!

@conmama , is it the sheer gold one? I know kimonos are a thing right now but I guess I’m not seeing them in places I’m hanging!

That is not a kimono. It is cute and definitely “dressing young.”

Got my newest purchase in the mail!

I love this brand’s stretchy denim. Comfy and does not lose shape

@abasket , yes, it’s the sheer gold. @BunsenBurner , what would you call it then when trying to describe it?

Those jeans are cute.

Cute top @conmama. I’m not sure what’s the top is called either but I’m not sure I’d call it a kimono either. But I don’t know what to call it other than cute!

I hear good things about J Brand jeans @BunsenBurner and a gray pair is a great addition. Very cute

I ordered a pair of Good American jeans. They are so comfortable and flattering, I’m keeping. They are a bit more than I usually pay but they are as soft and comfortable as leggings. I’m hoping they don’t stretch out too much.

Those are really great jeans, @BunsenBurner !

I am really wanting to order these:

I bought the same style in their gray snake print which was featured in their last collection, which I haven’t even worn yet (too hot here in Florida):

They have a lot of leopard in this new collection. There’s a moto jacket in the same leopard print.

I seem to be in a “bottom” phase. Do y’all do that - go in spurts or cycles where you buy more of one type of clothing (a jeans cycle, a sweater cycle, a jacket cycle?). It’s not very efficient, I don’t think.

We are going to our little town’s 70th anniversary party tonight. Dress is “cocktail attire.” I’m wearing a sheath-style LBD that has tiny, flat, gold “studs” (for lack of a better word ) all over that I have had for probably four or five years. I do love to dress up, but we don’t have much occasion to.

I love those leopard print skinny jeans!

I am way too shy to wear them, no matter how fun they are!

Get them!

@Midwest67 - one of my closest and dearest friends is highly introverted, and she eschews prints as well (especially on the bottom). She just doesn’t like drawing attention to herself and feels like prints do that - especially “wild” or “loud” prints. The irony is that she is so striking anyway that she already turns heads and draws attention!

I am extremely extroverted and LOVE being the center of attention. “Look at me, look at me!!” Lol. Bring on the prints - I love ‘em! It’s interesting to consider how personality plays into individual style.

Many years ago, on impulse, I bought a furry (think Muppets!) short jacket in dark blues & dark purples.

It was so cool looking in the catalog! Kinda Boho, kinda Rock n Roll.

It’s fun, attention-getting…and I cannot wear it out. I think I wore it once, to a concert.

Now that you mention it @Hoggirl perhaps the introvert thing does play a role.

I’m most comfortable wearing a uniform — simple basics. But I do enjoy fashion! On others? Haha!

You better get those leopard jeans!

I’m suffering shell shock from some of the prices I’m seeing for some of these items. Then I realized I’m viewing them in Canada - so the web is showing Canadian prices! Don’t know what you paid for those cute jeans @BunsenBurner but in Canada they are $350!

Wow!!! I got them for under $200 with my Nordstrom notes. I think they are $250 here. Still very, very expensive, but I am sooo hard to fit (and please!) when it comes to jeans. I buy just a few pieces every year and keep my clothes for a loooong time, so quality is very important to me. These jeans are very well made.

@Hoggirl , I love them! Buy them, you won’t regret it. I have a friend that just posted a pic and I think she’s wearing those. Stilettos with ankle straps, an off the shoulder black top andvshe looks darling.

Those would be cute with black boots, too.

I think your “kimono” @conmama is called a “duster.” It is a long cardigan that typically does not have buttons. Like this:

@Midwest67 - you sound exactly like my friend. She, too, is a simple basics, “uniform” kind of woman. Knowing what you are comfortable in is important, and timeless classics are never boring. She tends to wear solid, neutral colors and prefers skinny jeans on the bottom. Lots of blacks and tans. Not a lot of accessories. She always looks fashionable and pulled together though.

I think your “muppet” jacket sounds super fun!

@conmama - I’m sure I will buy them. They are currently in my cart along with too many other items from their new arrivals. I will keep them in the cart, but some other things probably need to be omitted before I place my order. ? I have had major success and happiness with our downsizing, but I simply cannot downsize my wardrobe - I like clothing too much. I will never be a Project 333 girl:

I like the top @conmama but admit when I think of kimonos I picture a article of clothing from Japan. Not sure what I’d call those sheer longer tops. I do like them for dressing up an outfit of skinny jeans and t shirt or tank. Don’t you hate it when you buy something you love and your spouse or SO or kids don’t love it too?
I might be the minority but I strongly dislike any animal print clothing or footwear. Not a fan of neon, heavily jeweled or studded items either.
I’m a pretty boring dresser. I’m wearing this to a wedding tomorrow. It’s about as wild as I get. https://poshmark.com/listing/Anthropologie-Lila-Embroidered-Shift-Dress-5c6b533c9539f790b88127f0?utm_source=gdm&ad_partner=google&l_con=NWT%2FNEW&utm_source=gdm&utm_campaign=1758204889&campaign_id=1758204889&ad_partner=google&gskid=pla-678105154532&gcid=341782241484&ggid=72519484961&gdid=t&g_network=g&enable_guest_buy_flow=true&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyrTmwOvQ5AIViNlkCh0IZwAQEA0YAiABEgJB5_D_BwE
I bought this dress last year and I’ve gotten a lot of wear out of it. I am a sucker for embroidery.

@BunsenBurner , yes! A duster, that makes much more sense. Whenever I hear duster, I think of some old thing my mom used to wear back in the 60’s.

I love WHBM pants, but my bum never looks good in them for some reason. I could wear something to cover it, but I’ve been trying to find bottoms where I don’t have to do that. If I go up a size, it’s not the look I want on the rest of the bottoms.

@mom60 , I was a bit bummed that DH didn’t like it. I go out with him more than anyone. Well, he might just have to suffer through it sometime.
