Dressing Young (Part 1)

These sandles are not especially young/stylish… but they were fun and comfortable for my summer trip - https://www.dsw.com/en/us/product/bzees-sasha-wedge-sandal/451401?cm_mmc=display-_-2019_fall_nmemp_dyn_252465258&dclid=CjgKEAjw5fzrBRD8-oTFye29kQESJAAy7we8typlMOPq0npKZfsc9unB1u1N2sZ3INwIjb_EaBshL_D_BwE

Yay to comfy! I like the denim sandals by the same maker.

Rothys update: the shoes arrived today and they don’t fit. My true size is 9.5 N, though some athletic shoes are okay in M and sometimes I have to size up to a 10.

I ordered the 10 solid black flat. I sized up because the reviews said too. Mistake. They are too long and there is no grip on my heel so my foot slides back and forth. The sides of the heel seem too high and were rubbing just under my ankle. It’s an odd feeling material, but I could possibly get used to it. Cost to me is worth it if they fit.

I’m not sure I will order the 9.5. Two hours after I tried them on, I can still feel where they rubbed my ankle.

Overall: thumbs down for a narrow foot, especially narrow heel.

@dentmom4 - thanks for the review. With my narrow foot, I will pass on ordering.

Got a self-inflicted spam from Tory Burch with oh so cute leopard print flats!!! Leopard print seems to be baaack! Time to pull my Feline flats out of the closet!

I love black skinny jeans, but have such a time as my behind just doesn’t look good in most. Love so many from the front, and then I turn around or to the side. I have found that Jennifer Lopez flawless sculpted jeans just look great. I’ve owned two in the past and am trying the high waisted ones. But, here are what I have. They are soft and give nicely, last a long time and make your tush look really good. They are on sale right now. I ordered my at the kiosk in the store so I wouldn’t have to pay shipping (they don’t deliver to the stores near me).
I also ordered the ripped ones.

Good jeans are so hard to find. Glad they fit you well. But… OMG, that is a really bad photo for a prouduct page. Terrible wrinkling around the crotch area. That is why I like to meet my clothes in person, because photos often don’t do them justice.

I was in the car Friday and had NPR on the radio tuned into Science Friday. Only caught part of the episode but you could google it. Fashion industry and Climate change. Has anyone else started thinking twice before they purchase new clothes?

Oh I have been thinking about that for quite a while. I buy things I can wear and rewear multiple times, which means I am very skeptical of trendy-trends, and quite a few of my clothing pieces comes from RealReal. I also hate to dry clean clothes… washable items are a must for me.

Today I am wearing a silk DVF shirt dress that I got 8 or so years ago, my favorite Lulu Align yoga pants that I wear as leggings, and my shoes are sparkly starred JCs I got off the RealReal.

A lot of my recent clothes purchase have been at the local Goodwill, since I actually don’t need new clothes. They cost very little, and I don’t feel bad if they don’t work out (I just give them away again). It also seems a way to do my part of “reuse” in the world, instead of always purchasing new.

@conmama, I’m not normally a Kohl’s shopper so never would have known about the jeans had you not posted. I just purchased a couple pair you linked and we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion. I also got 8% back through ebates and Kohls had an additional $10 off (love how they list their promotions so clearly) so, if the jeans work, they’re a steal at about $25 a pair. I was cleaning out my closet yesterday and had to say goodbye to a favorite pair of J Brand jeans so had already been thinking about looking for a replacement.

(This is me ignoring, for the moment, the discussion about the fashion industry and climate change. I do know the issue is real and consider it often.)

@collage1 , let me know how they turn out. I’m typically an 8, but in these I’m more comfortable in a 10. So, if they seem to tight, just size up one.

I do most of my shopping at Kohl’s in the junior section. They have great maci dresses, jackets, sweaters, blouses, cami’s, that I find more youthful and on trend. I’m always a large in their stuff though. Of course lots of it is too youthful or shirt, but lot of it isn’t.

I

I love new clothes and I enjoy shopping and browsing. In so many areas of my life I’m becoming more aware of the consequences of my actions. Whether it’s what I wear and buy or what I eat or waste. Where the things I think I’m recycling go and the effects of those actions on where they end up. It’s all so complicated.
I could do much more but for now I am trying to really think do I need that new item, what spot does it fill in my closet. I bought two pairs of AG jeans this spring. One pair of white and another in denim blue. I’ve worn both pairs multiple times and I know from past purchases that they will last me many years. I love buying jeans but I know I have plenty in my closet so I need to not go into the jeans store. I also ask myself do I love it or am I buying it because it’s a good buy. I used to like to buy something new when I had a big event. I have been recently shopping my closet when I’m invited to something special. I’ve also been taking the time to look in my closet when I’m getting dressed and try to pick something I haven’t worn in awhile.
On the opposite end is my hope that people continue to buy the products that help keep my family members employed. LOL

I think social media can drive the belief (whether real or imagined) that we need to buy more new clothing than we might have in the past.

@conmama, went to Kohl’s to pick up my order and, on my computer screen, the two pair of jeans I ordered were a dark rinse. In reality, they had patches of faded denim and feathering which are not my style. So, I didn’t even try them on…returned them on the spot. Disappointing but I know it’s a chance I take when I order online. And too bad I needed dark blue denim rather than black (that you recommended) since that has less variability.

That’s too bad, @collage1 . I never have even looked at the blue denim. Sorry it didn’t work out and thanks for letting me know. Another dark high waisted jean I liked that looks great, but is a bit more expensive is William Rast.

@mom60, thanks for that link. Although I’m wary of spending that much money on jeans, I might just try to find those Veronica Beard ones (the first picture), and see if they can transform my bum the way they did that gal.

I love my William Rast jeans and wear them for work when we can wear jeans. They look very polished in the dark wash.

@MomofWildChild , I did remember someone purchased them from my last comments about them. I’m glad you love them, I do too. I also went and got them in the lighter shade for that look. I do think the dark wash is very polished, too. I’d like to get more, but I have enough jeans and need to stop.

Spanx has a new line of black pants. I’m always wanting no-wrinkle black pants for business travel but they all get sort of boring. I got the cropped flare model and I like them a lot. I thought they might look stupid, but they are cute. https://www.spanx.com/new-arrivals

I am sitting on my butt encased in black Spanx ankle pants, taking a tea break. I really like these pants! If they wash well, I will get a couple more.
