Dressing Young (Part 1)

@surfcity , I was in Macy’s today and saw a ton of the boots you have posted. You’re obviously more on trend than I am! They were cute.

We range from festive casual to sweat pants and sweatshirts. It’s been a long running tradition for each family to take pictures by the tree, so the nieces will urge us to “do the pictures!” so they can change into basically adult pajamas. Lol! They start out in jeans and cute sweaters.

I saw a lot of young women in Europe wearing nude/neutral hose. And also lots of sheer black. Maybe the naked legs are going away again.

I just bought a cute tunic/ shirt to wear over leggings . It’s a quiet wine color that’s just begging for a long thin blingy gold necklace (I don’t like scarves). I used to live near a store that had inexpensive costume jewelry but they closed. Does anyone have favorite online or stores for a statement necklace that won’t cost more than the $30 I paid for the shirt?

I am dressy casual for thanksgiving. My sil hosts and it’s a pretty big group. I like to look nice. I would say that people tend more towards church clothes than sweat pants.

I like to have a place to wear the cute clothes I like to buy.

This year I bought a cute leopard blouse that I will wear with a sweater, jeans and boots. But all shoes will come off at the door as sil is having her floors done.

Funny Rothy’s story- I ordered the black and grey camo points and they were delivered today while I was at work. I was on the phone with my husband on my way home and he told me that I got TWO pairs of Rothy’s in the mail. I was concerned, because I had only ordered one, and I was afraid I had mis-ordered or something. When I got home, I noticed that one of the boxes was for a neighbor up the street, so I was forgiven! I delivered them after dinner!

@dragonmom, I just bought a $16 dollar statement necklace off of Amazon. I would try there, just put in the description. JC Penney’s and Kohls have a lot, as does Target.

@deb922 , I think that is so inappropriate to ask guests to take off their shoes. It’s one thing if someone does on their own, and I dissuade it when that happens. Shoe, boots, etc. are part of an outfit. Everyone standing around in their stocking feet…ridiculous.

It is disrespectful to your host to not take your shoes off if, according to the host’s culture, shoes are not to be worn inside. When in Rome, as they say, do as the Romans do.

I had to learn the remove shoe protocol when we lived in England. Everyone always removed their shoes. Going shoeless definitely makes carpeting/rugs last longer.

We live in Florida and shoe removal is also common because of sand.

Going shoeless isn’t my preference either, @conmama, though I do understand that it is sometimes a cultural expectation. When it is NOT a cultural or geographic expectation, I don’t like it - especially with bare feet. I have a crazy college friend who flies all the time. Passengers removing shoes is one of his huge pet peeves. He stealthily posts shoeless airline passengers on FB and mocks them. Lol. I think I associate going barefoot (especially in bare feet and especially outside) with a lack of sophistication and/or poverty. I’m probably stereotyping, though.

Everyone removes their shoes where I live. We have snow on the ground for 5 months. People even bring slippers to wear. So I mostly wear my snow boots.

I bought a cute pair of cropped jeans and they looked great with dressy boots. But then I remembered that if I wore them to any party, I would have to take off my boots and the outfit wouldn’t look right. So I reluctantly sent back the jeans.

My sil is having new hardwood floors put in and refinished. She is crossing her fingers that everything will be done by thanksgiving. I wouldn’t want dents in her brand new floors.

I just don’t think people truly entertain enough that one day or night every so often is going to ruin floors…I really don’t. We don’t wear our shoes in the house because walking on flooring 24/7 in shoes will ruin carpet and other flooring. But guests, once in awhile, I stand by it being rude if it’s not a cultural thing.

Really, is the flooring that precious?

I also live in the Midwest where there is a lot of snow. When I have a party, I make sure I have a big clean rug so people can wipe their feet before they enter the home to knock of snow and inside the home for dampness.

I can not stand being with out shoes. We do not take our shoes off at home. And yes we get snow. Lots and lots of snow. Doesn’t matter to me. I’ll take off my shoes if I’m a guest and asked but I loathe it.

In HI, most homes are leave your footwear outside or in the front hall. It’s considered very rude to wear footwear in the home. It’s what I’ve grown up with and lived with most of my life.

Not nearly as nice as Bunsen’s recent sweater dress purchase, but I ordered this with a Banana discount for about $55 in green. I loved it when it arrived, so I now ordered the light grey. I’m wearing the green one today with Bunsen-recommended Lulu Align tights and camo Rothy’s. https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=493346012&pcid=999#pdp-page-content

Love the dress AND the price!! Going to check it out. I finally retired one pair of my Aligns to yardwork duty, so maybe I will check the downtown Lulu tonight. Of course, I go in for the basic black ones, and come out with the whatever new colorful ones they have.

We are a shoes off household, as are all of our extended relatives’ homes. It would never cross my mind to keep my shoes on in someone’s home. We have rugs and boot trays by the front door during yucky weather season - which is half the year here.

When we are just home by ourselves we don’t wear shoes. DH has slides he wears, i go barefoot or socks. But with company I wear shoes and have never asked anyone to remove them. Those that expect shoes to be removed - do you provide a slipper or anything for guests?

Ok ladies I need your help. This isn’t really fashionable, but functional footwear. I live in Southern California, but do spend a lot of time skiing in the winter. I don’t have a pair of snow boots and just put on my Uggs after skiing. Next February H and I are doing a 15 day ski trip through the west and he told me I need some real snow boots. I figured you all could give me some suggestions.

@MomofWildChild love that dress!! So nice to see a longer length (I’m tall)

@showmom858 I have a pair of boots from Columbia that are warm and comfortable, but I’m not sure how stylish they are. I know people like Sorel and Joan of Arctic

Last year I bought these at Nordstrom rack for 1/2 price. They are the best snow boots I’ve ever bought. Light, comfortable and warm. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/santana-canada-maleo-waterproof-winter-boot-women/5327256/full?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FSantana%20Canada&color=black%2F%20red%20leather

To be honest, for years I just wore my Uggs all winter. If you are somewhere that is cold and not slushy, the uggs are fine. What they aren’t good for is wet melting snow.

I just bought a pair of sorel wedges. They are comfortable for wedges and are pretty stylish. Not sure how warm they are going to be though.
