When I lost weight a few years ago I splurged on a pair of black jeans NYDJ (more than I have ever spent on clothing). I love them and wear them all the time . But I have also experimented with lots of other pants/jeans from thrift shops, especially on half price day. Then I have no guilt giving them away if I don’t like them or loose/gain more weight.
I totally think it’s fine to wear velvet leggings after Xmas. I see tunics, blazers, boots! I’d make the rest of the outfit less dressy and you’ll be fine!
I have always wanted to go and see the store windows. My H is grumbling a little that I didn’t invite him. I told him my sister is a much better shopping partner.
@deb922 - I am a bit old school when it comes to velvet. I think velvet is fine between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. No idea where I got that “rule,” (maybe my Southern mother??). However, it might depend on where you live and what your climate is.
If you had a day in NYC and wanted to shop where would you go? My fashion style leans towards Anthropologie. Stores and neighborhoods would be appreciated.
@mom60 I try to do a shopping day yearly in NYC. It’s an easy train in and out for me. The last few years I’ve enjoyed starting in the Flatiron District (Broadway/5th Ave)and working my way down through Union Square, wander through Washington Square , and end up in SOHO.
I am a big walker, you’ll cover a lot of ground, but it is doable. You can cab it to a starting point, but I start and end at Pennsylvania Station.
Real New Yorkers can give you better details, but I usually map a couple of must-see stores, then pop into whatever else grabs me. There are a TON of stores and likely a bunch of holiday pop-ups. ABC Carpet, Fishs Eddy (cool kitchen stuff), & Other Stories are pretty cool.
Have fun! It will be exciting and beautiful this time of year.
I just want to tell you all who do dress young that I love this thread. I am so beyond dressing young and/or fashionably that I love seeing what you are buying. Please keep linking us to those fabulous things you find and wear. I love it.
@VaBluebird , I’m really trying not to buy things right now, butwear the items I have that I don’t wear enough. Saying that, I’m wanting this pink and grey cardigan. I love the way she is wearing it. I would say this is the style I feel most comfy wearing.
That cardigan (she calls it a coatigan) is gorgeous. My problem with it is that it is too heavy for indoors and not really enough for a winter coat outdoors. I do like it, though.
