Dressing Young (Part 1)

@houndmom not sure where you live but NJ is better to shop as there is no tax on clothe. It has a lot of nice malls. Although I do go to the city to shop once in a while for fun.

I want to say that the green sweater I linked to, that model is tall! It’s not that short on me. I have a pair of high waisted jeans that hit right above my belly button and the cardigan falls about 2” below the sweater, it’s longer in the back. It kinda gives the illusion that it’s more cropped than it is. My niece wore this look for thanksgiving and it looked cute on her. But then, she’s 23 and I’m not.

But even though I didn’t get an awesome deal, the sweater went down to 40% off this weekend (I bought mine the week before thanksgiving at 25% off). A few minutes in chat and they gave me the price adjustment. So I feel better about buying a trendy sweater.

I realized that all of my sweaters were getting old, were itchy or I was tired of them so I decided to buy a couple new ones. I’m convinced that last year all I bought was athleisure. Leggings and sweatshirts.

@deb922 I keep going back to that page - it’s my fear as well that it’s too big for me, i would have to wear them as a dress or always with leggings, that’s okay. But is it comfortable? I hate the itchy feel on the sweater in general, but I love most of the styles on that website!

ETA: I was talking about the this link that @mathmom provided:

@Nhatrang, sorry to say that although I think those Aran sweaters are really pretty, I too think they would be itchy.

Here’s a sweater that similar but shouldn’t be itchy. https://www.jjill.com/product/chenille-mixed-cables-tunic

I like this also. Don’t order the petite and it will be longer. I do that when I want a sweater to wear with leggings. https://www.talbots.com/clothing/sweaters/cableknit-shaker-stitch-sweater/P194121612.html?cgid=apparel-sweaters&dwvar_P194121612_color=IVORY&dwvar_P194121612_sizeType=MS#start=1&sz=54

Dang, when I’ve tried buying it in all sizes, it’s stubbornly remains $59 for the coatigan @ Loft. Obviously it’s a purchase meant for you—I will pass on it at that price, but it sure is cute. I don’t have much need for it anyway. When I travel, I try to be a minimalist. If it were $29, it would be tempting.

@HImom , can you call customer service and tell them a friend bought it at a brick and mortar store and it’s selling at $29, an you get it for that, too? And mention the plus sizing prices. It’s always worth a shot, I would do something like that. All they can say is no.

If I really wanted it and had room for it in my closet, I’d try that great suggestion. I am ok with not having one more thing to squeeze into my closet and having to try to get a reduced price. Thanks for the suggestion—hope it works for someone else.

Well, thanks to this thread, yet another CC’er owns the Loft coatigan. I need a few sweaters and completely forgot I had a LOFT gift card from last Christmas I had never used. Last night, I ended up buying online the coatigan (for $59 or whatever the 40% price was) as well as some other tops/sweaters.

Then this morning I had to run a few errands at a shopping center that has a Loft. I went in, found the coatigan, but there was no sale sign. I tried it on and loved the look so took it to the register to ask for a price check. If it was on sale for $29, I was going to buy it and return the other once I get it in the mail. Well it was $29. The clerk told me all coatigans are currently $29 in store only (not sure why it wasn’t advertised in the store?). She also said she could do a price adjustment right in the store so she credited my account the price difference.

I realized afterward that I should have just bought it and returned the other b/c I’m going to NYC on Friday and would’ve loved to wear it. I’m not sure the other will get shipped in time. Oh well.

Thanks for the tip and thanks for the link to that blog. I liked a lot of her outfits. Of course, I don’t have the nice figure she does, so some of her outfits wouldn’t look as flattering on me. If there are any others you recommend, please share.

I almost bought it, too. I balked at the $8.95 shipping and with the tax on $59 it added up. My size is not available in our local stores. :frowning:

Wow, that stinks @MomofWildChild - usually around the holidays free shipping abounds but I guess Loft must’ve had a higher threshold. I ordered over $100 of items and didn’t pay shipping. I’m sure you already know, but most stores can also order the item for you to pick up in the store so you don’t have to pay shipping, but that can be inconvenient. I did notice that my store only had two on the rack.

@4kids4us , Fantastic! If it were me, I’d buy it again at the store to take on your trip. What a great piece to wear around in NYC! Seriously, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Just take back the one you ordered when you get it. Wasn’t it gorgeous on?

I really like this blogger, but most of us aren’t 30 and Size 0. There’s no way I can wear my clothes the way that skinny minny can, but I really like how she puts her clothes together, and I can mimic and alter for my own body type (and age).

They were out of that animal print scarf, I really loved it with the pink. I found an almost identical Talbots one on Poshmark that I purchased today.

@MomofWildChild , I bet your store would order it for you and you’d get the price, I’d check,!

I think the shipping threshold was $125, and I don’t fault them for that, but it really bumped up the price. We have high sales tax here, too. I might check with the store, but it’s also something I probably don’t need… It sure is pretty, though.

I’m on online chat with them. No pickup in store option. They are waiving the shipping charge for me. Still $59

@conmama, I may just do that. I’m at that shopping center daily as it is where my son’s carpool meets. I’ll go in tomorrow and see if they still have it. I just looked at my LOFT recent and the shipping arrival date says on or before 12/19 so I doubt I’ll get it this week. For shipping always takes longer.

I really like the way it fell. I have a nice round bum (IOW well endowed!) so sometimes longer things like tunics catch on my backside depending on how it is cut. The coatigan fell really nicely and was cut in such a way that it had a slimming effect. Of course the mirrors at stores always seem to be more flattering than mine at home! I also bought this one but not sure if I’ll keep it. I asked today if it was part of the coatigan sale but she said it was on already clearance so it wasn’t (odd, b/c I paid more for it on clearance even tho it’s original price was cheaper than the coatigan). It doesn’t say it’s on clearance online and I did get 40% off, but it’s now out of stock. I paid $44 and it doesn’t look nearly as nice as the pink one. https://www.loft.com/plaid-reversible-sweater-jacket/505174?defaultColor=9180&bvstate=pg:2/ct:r

Shipping this year is even slower than usual. So if the coat is still there, I would do what @conmama suggested

@MomofWildChild, I think that coat would be really nice where you live.

I feel bad for my mom when she comes to Michigan for Christmas. Her mid south jackets don’t cut it here. And she refuses to wear a hat. I don’t care anymore, warm is better!

When I moved from Chicago to Dallas in the late 70s I brought 3 levels of coats that I never wore in Dallas.

@4kids4us , I’d call when it opens and have them put it back and tell them you’ll be in. I think it will look great in NY! I do think Loft has “skinny” mirrors. I hate it when stores do that. But I tried it on at home, and it still looks great.

I think the black and grey on is beautiful, too. You’ll be able to wear that with lots of colors…I think a pair of burgundy pants would look great. $44 is still a great price.

This thread gives me the itch to go visit Loft store again this week. I do love their clothes. Reasonable price for working professionals.

On my way home from NYC. This past weekend you wouldn’t wear anything but a down coat. I considered going into loft to look for the coatigan but I’d already shopped enough.
I did a little shopping. A sweater dress from Ann Taylor, another grey cashmere seater from Ann Taylor. We went to the Christmas market at Bryant Park and I bought myself two necklaces from a woman who is carried in the Sundance catalog. Beautiful colorful necklaces. Also picked up a camouflage grey pair of sneaker Rothys.
Saw lots of Ugg boots on all ages in a lot of styles.
It was fun and beautiful but crowded. It was so fun to actually have stores with merchandise in them.

Last month we killed some time at Bryant Park Christmas market heading to the airport. It was nice because not overcrowded yet. I almost splurged on an ice skating session.
