Dressing Young (Part 1)

We have no Loft on our Island, so I’m saved from purchasing that cute Coatigan. I agree that calling the store ASAP and asking them to put it on hold for you to pick up Monday sounds ideal.

Costco was surprisingly light on customers today because the Honolulu marathon was occurring and many folks were dutifully staying off the roads to minimize traffic.

We don’t have nearly the cold weather selection of clothing I’ve seen and purchased in SF Costco.

I was able to get black fake suede slacks and black very fine wale corduroy. I am undecided about keeping them. Both fit me very well but the fake suede one has NO pockets and the other has tiny pockets—on principle I’m irked.

I love the Christmas Market in Bryant Park - the main reason I’m going! I used to work a few blocks away, a lifetime ago before kids. It’s actually a very quick trip this time and I’m probably going to end up wearing rain gear so I’m not going to worry about trying to get the coatigan beforehand. My daughter is flying in to Newark from her semester abroad on Friday and I’m driving up from the DC area to get her. My son was invited to his college roommate’s house in NJ the same day, after finishing exams. So that he could spend time with his friend, and so I didn’t have to do an up and back trip in one day, I suggested to D that we get a hotel room for the night and head into the city for dinner, go see the tree, etc. She will be exhausted so we will only stay a few hours. We will pick up S the next morning and head home. I’m going back again with both daughters in early January to see a show so we will have more time for shopping then.

I looked at the coatigan online last night but felt kind of annoyed at the price for the regular size vs. the plus size and in store options. I chatted with CS this morning but they weren’t able to price match. I left the window open and, tonight, when I thought I’d consider it one more time, they had a new promotion that gave 40% + an additional 10% + free shipping. It’s still about $53 vs. $29 but, with the free shipping, I decided to pull the trigger. The local Loft closed awhile ago and the nearest one now is just too far to get to this week, assuming they even have my size in stock.

I did look around to see if they had a matching shirt/sweater in the gray color for underneath and couldn’t find one. Hopefully it’s a basic gray that will be easy to match. Not that the coatigan is bold but it’s a little bold for me but I’m excited to check it out.

@collage1 , I have a basic grey sweater and it looks fine, I like the one the model was wearing, too, but I don’t think you see a lot of the sweater when the coatigan is one.

$53 is still a good price. I was going to buy it at $59.

No wonder they gave me free shipping since they were about to start the promotion!

Union Square (at 14th Street) also has a great Christmas Market. https://www.urbanspacenyc.com/union-square-holiday-market
The Italian gloves are gorgeous and available on line if you can’t get to the market. https://italianleathergloves.com/

I woe the blue velvet dress with black leggings and boots and it was good, lots of compliments. The blue is so dark it looks black in low light, and between it and the boots, only a few inches of black legging showed

Glad it worked out @OHMomof2 ! I’m sure you looked fantastic. Don’t you wish we could post pics sometimes?

Who needs Loft if you are on a HI island!

Does anyone have experience with the brand Outdoor Voices? I’ve been given a 40% off code and I’m wondering if it’s worth using.

It’s a really good, small company out of Austin (I think). Really nice, good quality outdoor and athleisure gear. They have partnered with Hoka to make some special colorways of shoes. I would use the code.

My grey and pink coatigan came a few days ago. I haven’t gotten to wear it yet, but it looks really nice and is soft. Love the way I let y’all spend my money!

Also- I might have mentioned it before and I know not everyone is a big Lularoe fan (multi-level marketing), but their denim is really good and fits well. Pay attention to the sizing. I wear a 27 in Madewell and wear a 26 in Lularoe (they go even sizes) and can get into a 24 but that size is more of a leggings fit. It is a skinny jeans look but holds the shape really well.

@MomofWildChild , I’ve worn mine once. The scarf I ordered that is similar to the one in the picture came on and I can’t wait to put it all together like the model. I want to just be outside walking in it all and not take off the coatigan! Ha!

I might even swing around like she does, ala Mary Tyler Moore.

Thanks For the feedback @MomofWildChild. I ordered 4 pairs of bottoms, a bra and 2 shirts. Saved a lot but still spent a lot. My family member sometimes through her job gets some great discount codes. This December I’ve spent a lot of money on myself!

I always spend a lot on myself in December and every year I say that I won’t!

Hah another who bought the costigan from Loft. Those are my colors for traveling. Pink, black, gray and cream. I love the style of it! Thanks all. I got it for $44 and free shipping so all good. The $29.99 was a steal for sure.

My coatigan arrived too. Love the way it looks but ordered a couple gray thin sweaters for underneath and am waiting for them to arrive. Don’t have an outfit quite yet. I think I paid $54 with free shipping so many of you were more successful than I on the price but it’s no longer available in my size online so I’m not sorry I ordered it.

@collage1 , are you going to wear yours as a cardigan? Is that why you are looking for think sweaters! Maybe I should, too. I have a mid weight grey sweater and the 2 things together are too warm inside.

$54 is still a great price on a $100 item.

They have completely sold out of the coatigan online. Those influencers really influence, don’t they?

The coatigan discussion here starting with an influencer blog brought this topic to mind. Which if any influencer blogs do you all read? I read a few “Fashion over 50” blogs and especially like Jo-Lynne Shane’s blog because she has been like a “ fit model” for me. We are the exact same height, she’s about my weight and we both have large chests. I like her fall/ summer /spring styling better than her winter. It was her blog post that led me to the spring/fall coat I bought and love beyond measure ( found it a Bloomigdales outlet) https://jolynneshane.com/what-i-packed-for-my-disney-vacation-my-travel-outfit.html
