Dressing Young (Part 1)

The length I like is 6.5”. I buy these from Title Nine. Lots more colors than they used to have. But, they are “sporty.” I have to size up in this Kuhl brand.

I can’t do 5” either, @collage1

@zyx123 , thanks for the link! I’ll check those out as I will the Title One Nine @Hoggirl posted.

Here’s the thing…i have such a weird shaped balanced body. Long torso, but no necessarily short legs. But they appear so compared to my torso. The more leg that shows, the better everything looks together. I’m sure I’d be better in a 6”, but I’m sort of right at that point where I’m trying to get away with 5”.

Ok probably TMI, but my legs also look shorter than they are because I’m longer from my hip to my knee, then my knee to the ground. I was standing next to a good friend of mine that is actually 2 inches shorter in height. Our hips touched exactly (in a photo I have), but her legs looked so much longer. I couldn’t figure out why until I noticed her knees were about 1-2” higher than mine.

It’s so boring but I buy my shorts at Talbots. They come in different lengths, they wash up well and they fit nicely. They also have tons of sales.

The old J crew shorts were too tight in the waist and too loose in the legs. Talbots shorts have a more forgiving waist, for this older body that carries weight now there!

I like pockets also, I golf in them and pockets are nice.

Cute shorts, @conmama !

My white Madewell blouse form Nordstrom came in. Glad I asked, and thanks @MomofWildChild for the sizing tip. Size 6 fit perfectly! Now we need our 80 degree weather back. ?

The Old Navy joggers arrived. The fabric is thinner like a summer weight T-shirt.

I slept in them last night & I’m lounging around in them this morning with my coffee. Very comfortable.

I think I’ll get another pair!

@conmama, I describe the problem as “gravity sucks.” It seems as I age everything is drooping, even though I probably exercise more than ever.
@Hoggirl, I really like those Kuhl shorts. I too have short legs compared to my body, but I generally wear a longer short - often Bermuda length. I think the 6.5 inch looks like a good option though.

@Midwest67 , would you mind linking the joggers you purchased?

@conmama

@Midwest67 , thanks! How would you say they run in the hip/butt and length? I was wanting them longer, but only navy is available in a tall.

@conmama

I measured my hips and waist and ordered based on the size chart on Old Navy. Medium. Regular.

I was a little concerned the joggers would be too tight through the hips and thighs. I’m still adjusting to being bigger (squats and deadlifts have added a size to my frame). But no, the fit is great. Loose & comfortable but not overly baggy and shapeless.

As far as length goes, I’m 5’6", average length legs, and when I first put them on I thought uh-oh, maybe I should have ordered a TALL. But no, the length is good. If I had gotten a TALL, they would be puddling.

The length on me looks similar to the picture of the joggers on the model.

I like them. The price is right, and good for sleeping and lazy mornings. I just ordered another pair!

I hope that helps!

@Midwest67 , thanks, that helps a lot!

I have come to share a post that will undoubtedly restore your faith in the kindness and generosity of (wo)mankind!!

If you recall, there was some discussion last week about the Haystacks clothing company out of Michigan. Well, an incredibly lovely person on this board saw that discussion and my interest and reached out to me via pm offering to mail me two skirts and two tops that she was no longer using and planned to donate! She said she would love it if she could send them to a CC “friend.” So, at her own expense and effort she did, and they arrived today! And, I am IN LOVE!!! The reversible “switchstacks” skirts are absolutely amazing. I adore the fun prints, and the styling and fabrication were exactly what I was looking for in terms of being dressier than sporty while not being too dressy. PERFECT for beach life!

I am thankful to her for sending them. Not only did I receive two free outfits, but I also have a sense of the quality and sizing of the Haystacks brand. I cannot wait to order more! Just having something new to wear gave me a huge boost in my mood today. A bit of normalcy in these crazy times, but more importantly, a wonderful expression of generosity by a fellow board member!

I’m not tagging her as I don’t want to embarrass her, but I wanted you all to know that the CC community ROCKS!

@Hoggirl , what an incredibly sweet and thoughtful gesture! So glad they are something you love.

@Hoggirl - What a nice story!

Awesome. The CC sisterhood of traveling fashion! :slight_smile:

@Hoggirl That is really great! Put a smile on my face :smile:

@abasket , I believe it was you who likes skorts, correct? It’s been years since I’ve worn any, and now that I’m not as crazy about shorts on me, these popped up on my FB feed and I ordered them in the Floral Burst. Can’t wait to get them, I hope it fits. If I love them, I’ll probably order in a few more colors.

I do like skorts! I have many! Nice color selection of those above. I like mine a little more “full”/“flirty” rather than straight lines because I’m likely to be pretty active in them.

I was looking at these on Amazon…not sure how the quality would be but I like the phone pocket on the shorts underneath the skort!

I like that one, too. I have to be careful with full swingy skirts, as my hips can look huge depending how it’s made. I think that’s why I’m drawn to straight skirts. Why oh why am I pear? I want to be a pencil.

I am not a pencil but while I want something to look good, just as importantly I want it to function well for me!

As Stacey and Clinton used to teach us - embrace who you are and what body you have!
